chr1s1231
Hello. I have recently decided that I want to give VATSIM a shot. I just have a few questions. When flying from an airport that only uses a traffic freq, do you announce your movement on there or do you just switch to UNICOM? If I am at a large airport such as Brisbane Intl and I see that the only controller that is online is center, do I request my clearance, start and push, taxi and takeoff from him? If I get given say a visual approach to a runway that uses ILS, is it okay to request ILS? Thanks Chris
HillBillyJim
Hi: I'll do my best to answer the questions, I am no way a pro at this, but I have had a decent amount of experience. 1: If there are no controllers online I believe you always switch to unicom, 122.8. I do not believe you use local airport frequencys. 2: Yes. If the only controller is a center, you can contact him to get departure, ground, etc. Just be sure to tell him what airport you are at, and that it is within his zone of coverage! 3: I believe you can. Just be ready in case the controller says no. You often get to choose; just last night I was given a choice between a visual and an ILS. VATSIM is tons of fun, you will not regret trying it! http://vnorthwest.com/lib/signatures/NWA3004.png Great VA!
