NMLW Posted November 29, 2014 Share Posted November 29, 2014 This is a Handley Page HP81 Hermes 4 in a 1961 Air Safaris livery flying from Livingstone, Federation of Rhodesia & Nyasaland (Now Zambia) and Walvis Bay, South-West Africa (now Namibia), (FLLI – FYWB). There are 1,500 gallons of fuel on board and the total flight time is about 3 Hours and 10 minutes. The weather is fair with scattered high clouds. We will be flying at an altitude of 16,000 feet. We are now on course for Walvis Bay climbing through six thousand feet over Zambezi Nation Park. 7. Passing through eleven thousand feet and light clouds. 8. At our cruising altitude of FL160 we have crossed into Botswana. 9. Flying over the large Okavango Delta and grasslands that is home to great numbers of African wildlife. 10. With the sun in the west we are a hundred and fifty miles from Walvis Bay over the western Kalahari well into South-West Africa. 12. The city of Windhoek is about 45 mils off our port wing. 13. Thirty five miles from Walvis Bay we begin our descent. 14. Having been assigned a visual approach to Rwy. 9 at Walvis Bay we turn down wind toward the Atlantic Ocean. 15. We see the Walvis Bay inlet just above our starboard wing. 16. We are on the cross wind portion of our approach descending through 2,800 feet. 17. About seven miles from the airport we turn up wind toward Rwy. 9 at Walvis Bay. 18. We are about four miles out at 2,000 feet with full flaps and have the runway in sight. 19. Touchdown. 20. Off the runway we are taxiing to parking and see a Beech stagger wing that landed just before us. 21. Parked, engines shut down and passengers disembarked. Thanks for flying Air Safaris.
