Why multiple HAT's

I'm not one usually to post into forums. But I couldn't resist this time

Why do you need multiple HAT switches in hardware now a days?

I understand the need to control your point of view (hence POV hat switch) but what of the others?

Some hardware like the X-55 from Saitek uses and has I believe at least 7 different HAT's and rotary dials and so forth.

What in the world could you assign to those in a Flight Sim?

Thanks,

RM

Greetings RM,

In several real world Aircraft, the trim is handled by a "hat switch." A hat switch crams 4 or 8 buttons into a fairly small space; which can then be pretty handy for weapons select/control, controlling the radios or radar, chaff/flare dispenser, etc. Once programmed, and memorized, you can theoretically conduct the entire flight without using the keyboard.

Respectfully,

Brian

Ok Brian I can see your point. But I would still like to see the mapping of a person that flys in MSX or X-plane with something like the X-52 or X-55.

I looked on the web and saw all those toggles, hat switches, rotary dials and so forth, personally I don't think I could use more that 1/2 of them.

I mean sheesh :-)
