/images/notams/notams19/vsky0923.jpgA short glimpse into the flight testing of the VSKYLABS Aeros-2Trike in the latest, upcoming X-Plane 11.40b3 Experimental FlightModel environment. In the video - departure into a tumbling, low-altitude spin andgeneral stability runs. The VSKYLABS Aeros-2 Trike Project is a high-level trikesimulation, making use of X-Plane's most powerful flight dynamics andphysics 'Experimental' engine. The project is incorporating the vastknowledge which was gathered throughout years of test flying andresearch via X-Plane 9, 10, 11, 11.40b3...as this project is thesuccessor of the 2015 VSKYLABS Hang Glider Project. A short explanation of the tumbling-departure, which isdemonstrated in one of the first sequences in the video... TheVSKYLABS Aeros-2 is designed to demonstrate the tumbling condition, based on pure physics (and not by "cheating" or forcing the flightdynamics model into the stable tumbling situation). X-Plane's 11flight dynamics is not the real world, but the result is quiteauthentic and convincing. The tumbling is an unrecoverable mode, resulting in trike'sstructure severe damage, usually ends up with a severe/fatalcrash. Departure into a tumbling usually begins with a nose-high, lowairspeed attitude of the trike. As the trike's wing is stalling, arapid nose-down motion is initiated. Normally, in this condition, thewing may recover into flying condition. However, while stillin the nose-high condition...if the pilot pulls the control barabruptly (trying to reduce the nose-high attitude), the result mayturn into a situation where the wing enters a negative angle ofattack, causing the nose to pitch down beyond vertical attitude. This initial departure may be initiated also when reducing enginepower aggressively while the trike is in a nose-high/low speedcondition. In this case, the trike's hinged body my rotate backwards asa result of the reduced power, causing the front strut to hit thecontrol bar, forcing it backwards...forcing the wing to rotate nosedown beyond the vertical attitude. In this condition, with a negative angle of attack, and beyondvertical, nose-down attitude, the control bar is forcing the trike'swing to exceed the vertical nose-down attitude, while the trike's bodyis rotating over the wing (on top). This motion continues over thewing and around, with the front strut forcing the control bar tocontinue its nose-down rotation. The resulted situation is a "stable", unrecoverable state, which isusually accompanied by severe damage to the trike's structure andwing. Fascinating isn't it? Keep in mind however, that the trike is asafe form of an aircraft, no different than any other type of a flyingmachine. By understanding the aircraft's flight envelope andlimitations, such hazardous conditions may be easily avoided, simplyby flying within the safe envelope. Stay tuned! project release is getting closer! Source

/images/notams/notams19/vsky0910.jpgFlight model engineering and flight testing phase has reached itstarget goals, and the VSKYLABS Aeros-2 Trike is now a tight androbust, highly defined hang glider trike simulation. The VSKYLABS Aeros-2 is tuned to demonstrate authentic performanceand flight handling characteristics, throughout its operational weightconfigurations. Loading the trike with additional back-seat passengeris also incorporated into the flight dynamics model to include theadditional weight and needed drag. The VSKYLABS Aeros-2 is demonstrating authentic ground andin-flight handling qualities which are allowing typical, yet precisecontrol of the trike using a true-to-life wing tilting and weightshifting combination. Trike nose attitude in level flight, duringtakeoff and landings is allowing to perform a smooth and controllable"wheelie" during the ground roll. Stall characteristics of the hang-gliding flex-wing is of courseincorporated into the flight model. The VSKYLABS Aeros-2 is stallinglike a trike and not like a conventional aircraft. Inaddition, tumbling and spirals are "awaiting" around the corner, inthe case of careless flying. The VSKYLABS Aeros-2 is also featuring a ballistic parachute rescuesystem, designed to follow the general envelope of the Magnum 450Rescue System. The VSKYLABS Aeros-2 is fully operational in VR. Due to theexisting limitations of touch controllers versus actual aircraftconfiguration (for instance, the use of a foot-toe lever for throttlecontrol in a real trike), an alternate yet intuitive control layouthas been configured for VR: Left hand (left touch controller) - this was found to be the mostcomfortable for a "sticky" interaction with the control bar. The righthand can be placed on the virtual bar as well (the entire bar is a"hot" touch zone). Right hand (right touch controller) - to be used freely to managethe virtual cockpit, and also to manage the manual hand-controlledthrottle. Of course, VR can be operated by any hands combinations... The head of the front pilot is invisible, and the trike can beflown with a visible reference for the hands, body and legs. The project is getting tighter and the release is expected tohappen within September 2019! Stay tuned! Source

/images/notams/notams19/vsky0903.jpgOfficially announced a year ago, the project has now reachedadvanced development phase. The project is part of the VSKYLABS'Test-Pilot' series, designed for use with the latest X-Plane 11'Experimental flight model' environment. It is a highly-realistic hang glider trike simulation, utilizingX-Plane 11 physics to its limits. With the use of actualweight-shifting combined with a wing tilting control mechanism, and ahighly-accurate, comprehensive flight dynamic model design, theVSKYLABS Aeros-2 Trike is demonstrating authentic hanggliders/flexwing microlights flying characteristics, includingslipping, 'tumbling' (which is the departure from controlled flightinto a rapid nose-down autorotation) and more. The Aeros-2 is a Ukrainian ultralight trike, designed and producedby 'Aeros'. It can be powered by various engine configurations, andthe Rotax 503 and 582 Aeros-2 Trikes are known in the US market as the'Venture 500' and 'Venture 600'. VSKYLABS development of the Aeros-2for X-Plane was approved by 'Aeros'. However, the project is anindependent VSKYLABS project which is not affiliated and/or endorsedwith/by 'Aeros'. The VSKYLABS Aeros-2 Trike simulation is powered by a Rotax 503engine, equipped with Aeros 'Profi TL' wing (which is a 'topless'wing), having standard winglets. The winglets refine the wing'slongitudinal stability, making the trike more stable in spirals andother side slipping situations. The VSKYLABS Aeors-2 Trike is the next step in the VSKYLABS HangGliders Project evolution, which was initiated back in 2015, anddidn't go through a decent update for almost two years now. The"brand new" Aeros-2 trike will replace the current, old, generic 'S-1'trike. Hang glider trike pilots: get ready for the most realistic hangglider trike simulation available on a PC! Source

/images/notams/notams18/vsky0822.jpgVSKYLABS 2019 Releases road map news flash: The VSKYLABS Aeros-2Hang Glider Trike Project! VSKYLABS Aeros-2 TrikeDevelopment and release plans for the existing running projects,as well as the new upcoming projects for 2019 are getting intoshape. One of the existing running projects which will be addressed in2019 is the VSKYLABS Hang Glider Project, which will have a thoroughinside-out re-design and re-modeling update process. The 2.5 years old project currently features two generic trikes(S-1, S-3) plus an additional experimental rigid wing powered hangglider (S-4). The existing S-1 trike, which was initially designed as kind of ageneric version of the real world Aeros-2 Trike, will be thoroughlyrebuilt, but this time as the specific Aeros-2 Trike (and will carryits name as well). 3D modelling, FDM, systems on board, pilothandbook, checklists, specific performance and handling qualitiesetc...all of these will be tailored to match the Aeros-2specifications, performance and handling qualities. Additional and thorough modifications for the VSKYLABS Hang GliderProject are planned as well for 2019, as part of its long termdevelopment plan. More specific information will be posted when timeis right. *The VSKYLABS Aeros-2 Trike Project for X-Plane was acknowledgedand approved by 'Aeros' company. However it is an independent VSKYLABSproject which is not affiliated and/or endorsed with/by the 'Aeros'company. Source
