  4. /images/notams/notams21/dino0830.jpgA huge THANK YOU for your support and feedback after the launch ofthe Long-EZ and MB-339 on the XBox Marketplace - despite some minorissues it was a huge success. One thing we had not considered was the fact that XBox users do nothave access to the flight manuals (which we typically include as .pdfin the DOCS folder of each aircraft). Here are the links for the current versions: Long-EZ MB-339 Also, several users seem to have some difficulties with the smokesystem, so we have created a small video tutorial on this topic: We are working to bring the T-45 on the store too, but there aresome difficulties due to the HUD - we'll explain this at a latertime. Last, as we wrote on a previous post, the versions currently in theMicrosoft Store include some bug fixes that are not present in thenon-Store versions - it is our intent to align the version with afurther update ASAP. 5. /images/notams/notams21/work0827/work0827.jpgLooks like SimWorks Studios are working hard on some pretty coolupdates for their Zenith, Kodiak and Okavango add-ons for MSFS: It's been a while since we've given an update on the Kodiak, so nowis a good time to do it! For the past few weeks, we have been working very hard behind thescenes to improve our model and fix various inaccuracies and mistakesthat we spotted during testing. We are finally at a point that we arehappy with the model and expect to have her fully finished next week,so we can show her in earnest! The flight model is in the final stages of tuning and focus is nowon engine performance to close that front out. The sounds for the aircraft were recorded from a real Kodiak andare 90% complete. Keep an ear out as we will soon be posting previewsfor it! Work is also being put in the Zenith which is being tuned evencloser to its real-world counterpart. We are now working on thefloatplane's flight model and the ski-equipped variant, which will bereleased as free updates to the current 701. We are also working hard on Okavango and trying to expand it toinclude the full delta. Seronga is nearly finished and will befollowed by Shakawe and the remaining 20 small airstrips to covereverything. /images/notams/notams21/work0827/simworks-1.jpg /images/notams/notams21/work0827/simworks-2.jpgRegarding the CTDs some users experience, we are still looking intothe issue but are unable to reproduce it at all internally. Some usersreported that the problem "fixed itself", some found that starting ina default airport in the delta allowed them to fly in and land, otherslowered their graphics and it worked. As it seems to be related to SimUpdate 5, our official position is to wait for World Update 6 which, per the announcement, will address CTDs. In the meantime, we will keeppoking at it and if we can do something about it, we will! Below aresome shots of the Seronga Police camp, right next to the airstrip. Lastly, we are quiet because there are a lot of exciting aircraftand scenery projects we are working on. Stay tuned as new projectswill be announced soon! Source
  6. /images/notams/notams21/dino0827.jpgNOTAM - Long-EZ And MB-339 Marketplace Update And Xbox ReleasesApparently, the Long-EZ and the MB-339 have been finally clearedfor release on the XBox and should be available in the next fewdays. Please note that, since Microsoft wanted us to change a coupleof minor things, the packages that will be available in theMarketplace will be SLIGHTLY more advanced than the ones availableelsewhere. This is because we had to include a number of minor fixeswhich were already present in our internal build but were planned fora later release along with other fixes/improvements. We will release afurther update to ALL the distributors soon. Here is the situation in detail: MB-339Version 1.3.1 - Miscellaneous fixes for Marketplace release Fixed bug causing landing/taxi light switch animation not to workFixed bug causing incorrect interaction while pressing the G-Valve test pushbuttonFixed reversed animation in Cabin Press switchFixed incorrect material assignment in ejection handle baseImproved mouse interaction with some knobs (altimeter setting, HDG and CRS)Fixed missing description localization for A-MLU versionTo do for the next update -> New engine dynamics, several graphicalimprovements...and a couple of surprises. Long-EZVersion 1.2.1 - Minor fixes for Marketplace release Improved mouse drag interaction on some switchesAdded missing component behavior to COM1 SWAP buttonFixed Aircraft DescriptionTo do for the next update -> New liveries We are also working on the T-45C, but we have some concerns as theHUD may not render correctly (or acceptably) on X-Box Series S due theresolution and image processing on that version. A similar issue mayexist on the X-Box Series X, but it should be less evident. We'll discuss this in detail in a future post. Source
  7. /images/notams/notams21/dino0816.jpgWhile we are hard at work testing the MB.339 update, we had to fixa couple of tiny glitches in the latest Long-EZ version. If you arenot annoyed by these issue, you can skip the update... but we felt wehad to fix them anyway. We have also received several cool liveries which we plan tointegrate in the next updates. August 16th 2021 Fixed mistake in tooltip ID for attitude calibration knobFixed duplicate GUID in view systemOne important note: we have been told by Microsoft that, due to SimUpdate V, they have quite a big backlog in the Marketplace update. Wedo not have any set date for the release on the Marketplace, but it islikely to take two weeks or more. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but it does not depend on us. 8. /images/notams/notams21/dino0802.jpgProblems with Long-EZ in MSFS 1.18.14 .0? We have received a (small) number of emails from users of theLong-EZ who seem to have no pitch authority on the Long-EZ - and areunable to operate the plane (both with Long-EZ 1.18 and 1.19) and eventake off. This is weird as we cannot replicate the issue - the plane worksfine on our end and we cannot identify a root cause. Things we have thought of: Control sensitivity (too low or too high*)Unintentional activation of autopilotUnintentional activation of flight assistsSelection of the "Legacy" flight modelAll of these have been ruled out by those users. Note that the Long-EZ (like all of planes for MSFS) is designed andtested for usage MODERN flight model and with maximum realism. Please let us know if you are having issues with the Long-EZ afterSim Update 5. * As a note, if you pull too hard on the stick, you can "stall"the canard without stalling the wing... resulting in a nosedrop. 12. /images/notams/notams21/indi0325.jpgWe have just released a VERY small update to the Long-EZ that shouldfix the "out-of-focus-on-one-eye" problem in Virtual Reality. We alsotook the chance to take the Long-EZ for a couple of test flights toinvestigate the effects of Sim Update III - which, truth to be told, were not completely satisfactory. On the good side, landing behaviorseems a little better - with a slightly gentler touchdown. On theother side, the plane seemed (even) more difficult to trim... but onlyin some cases (may be depending on the weather?). Plane is stillflyable and "numbers" seem correct, so maybe it was just animpression. 14. /images/notams/notams20/long1223/longez-1.jpgNOTAM - Mouse drag inop in latest MSFS update. Apparently, the latest update of Microsoft Flight Simulator(1.12.13.0 - that is the "VR" release) has a problem with PartInfo"mouse drag" actions. Basically the legacy code for mouse drag actionin the Virtual Cockpit does not seem to work anymore - this affectsboth the MB-339 and the LONG-EZ and probably affects all the aircraftthat use the PartInfo method for the model animations (but not theones from Asobo, as they use a different method). I have already notified Microsoft of the problem. /images/notams/notams20/long1223/longez-2.jpgIt is not a huge problem for most of the controls, as they can alsobe operated with the mouse wheel, but there is a major issue with theLong-EZ fuel selector which cannot be operated with the mouseanymore. As a temporary workaround (waiting for Microsoft to fix this) youcan assign keyboard shortcut or a joystick/controller button tocontrol the fuel selector. The functions you need to assign are "FUELSELECTOR 1 LEFT" and "FUEL SELECTOR 1 RIGHT". Apologies for the inconvenience. 16. Long-EZPublisher: IndiaFoxtEchoReview Author: Michael HaywardSuggested Price: $17.59/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.png /images/reviews/longez61/t/IndiaFoxtEcho-Long-EZ-01.jpgThe Model 61 Long-EZ is a single-propswept wing general aviation kit plane developed and built by Rutansince the late 1970s. Its peculiar style and aerodynamic body make itstand out when compared to a lot of aircraft in a similar class. IndiaFoxtEcho (Dino Cattaneo), is a long-time developer for flightsimulation and is the latest to jump across to Microsoft FlightSimulator, with the Long-EZ being the first of his aircraft for thenew platform. Today we take a look at this aircraft in close detailand see how it compares to its real life counterpart. Aircraft Specification:Crew: 1 PilotLength: 16 ft 10 in (5.12 m)Wingspan: 26 ft 1 in (7.96 m)Height: 7 ft 10 in (2.40 m)Empty Weight: 710 lb (322 kg)Maximum Takeoff Weight: 1,325 lb (601 kg)Powerplant: Lycoming O-235 /images/reviews/longez61/t/IndiaFoxtEcho-Long-EZ-02.jpgAircraft Performance:Range: 2,010 mi (3,230 km, 1,750 nm) Rate of Climb: 1,750 ft/min (8.9 m/s)Service Ceiling: 27,000 ft (8,200 m)Max Cruising Speed: 185 mph (298 km/h, 161 km) Exterior ModelThe Long-EZ has a very peculiar shape being swept-wing with ahorizontal stabiliser on the nose. The propeller sits on the rear ofthe aircraft with two vertical stabilisers at the end of eachwing. The aircraft seats two people, the pilot at the front and apassenger in the rear with a single glass canopy that sits on top. The aircraft also features a retractable nose-gear which has to behand-cranked to operate (the two rear wheels are static). A speed brakeis also fitted to the belly of the aircraft and can be used to slowthe aircraft down greatly while in the air. /images/reviews/longez61/t/IndiaFoxtEcho-Long-EZ-03.jpgUsing the Drone Cam in Microsoft Flight Simulator, you can look upclose at the model and observe the high level of detail that has beenincluded. Each bolt and screw is modelled in 3D and is visible, pluspanel gaps, with some minor miss-alignment, typical of well-loved kitaircraft are also visible. The engine also features an under-bellyintake, as well as exhaust vents underneath the wings. Then there are the 4K resolution textures that are kitted acrossthe aircraft. You get four liveries with the model and these all lookfantastic! Little details such as wear and tear all over the panels, plus spots of dirt (especially on the undercarriage), are proof that alot of care has been put into giving this aircraft life within thesimulator environment. Implementation of the default pilot models in the simulator hasalso been really well-done, sitting both pilots one in front of theother. If you use a custom pilot model in the MSFS settings (as I havedone), you will see the captain and co-pilot (or in this case, passenger) sitting in their respective seats inside the aircraft. /images/reviews/longez61/t/IndiaFoxtEcho-Long-EZ-07.jpgWhen compared to its real-life counterpart, the Long-EZ looksfantastic and fits in the Microsoft Flight Simulatorscene. IndiaFoxtEcho will have spent a long time modelling everyaspect of this aircraft and making it accurate, and this is somethingthat has definitely paid off. Cockpit And InteriorThe Long-EZ does not have much going for it in terms of systems, given that it is a kit plane, but what systems it does have,IndiaFoxtEcho has included it, and it all works rather well. The cockpit layout follows the standardised design as set out byRutan without any customised setup, for example, the fuel pump switchis between the pilot's legs and not behind your shoulder (which led tothe John Denver incident). /images/reviews/longez61/t/IndiaFoxtEcho-Long-EZ-05.jpgThe aircraft also features a functioning GPS, which is the defaultMSFS touch screen system that is based on the ProLine Fusionpanels. Out of all the management computers and GPS systems in thissimulator so far, I find this to be the most intuitive andcustomisable (allows you to toggle between the top-down map and thesynthetic version). While perhaps a custom system would be nice, we doneed to realise that the SDK for Microsoft Flight Simulator is stillin the works, and the implementation of this default system has beendone rather well - you certainly won't lose any of the experience whenflying this plane! Like the exterior, the interior makes use of 4K resolution texturesand this makes for a beautiful plane. The weathered and worn mainpanel stands out with small discolorations and scratches dotted allover. Gauges are 3D and pop out of their places, plus each switch islabelled, making it clear and easy to read. This has certainly been awell-loved aircraft and IndiaFoxtEcho has done a fantastic job inshowing this. /images/reviews/longez61/t/IndiaFoxtEcho-Long-EZ-04.jpg SoundThe Long-EZ comes with a set of custom audio samples which arerecorded to a high resolution and sit you right in the seat of theaircraft. There are numerous samples included of the engine atdifferent speeds and mixtures. When in flight you can also hear lightwind noise, an undertone to the aircraft in cruise. It's a smalldetail, but one that works well. This is certainly enough audio togive you an immersive experience flying from inside the cockpit. One thing which is missing though, are the sounds for switches andlevers inside the cockpit. Default aircraft in MSFS have sound effectsfor everything from switch manipulation to levers sliding and evensmall rocking sounds for stick and yoke manipulation. The Long-EZhowever, has none of these, which does take away some of theexperience in my opinion, especially when you look at the aircraft andits crank-shaft gear control. It is still early days and IndiaFoxtEchois known for his quality, so perhaps this is something that will beadded at a later date. /images/reviews/longez61/t/IndiaFoxtEcho-Long-EZ-06.jpgExterior samples are also recorded to a high quality and soundgreat when combined with the wind effects. Together they really helpgive the feeling of power and speed. Overall, some room for improvement, but still convincing in theaudio department. Flight DynamicsFlying the Long-EZ can be a challenge at the start, but it iscertainly rewarding. Its design and rear-facing propeller mean you'llnotice it tends to pitch down. This can easily be countered byadjusting your trim upwards and applying a little force to your stickto keep the aircraft flying stable and level. Takeoffs and landings are also not too difficult to perform, but dorequire some rudder input to keep you in a straight line! You can feelthe prop drift of this aircraft, something IndiaFoxtEcho has expertlyachieved in this model. /images/reviews/longez61/t/IndiaFoxtEcho-Long-EZ-08.jpgOne thing you will quickly realise is that this aircraft does notfeature any flaps. Initially this may be quite daunting, especiallyduring your first few takeoffs and landings, but the more youpractise, the better you will certainly become. You also miss out onparking brakes, so don't forget to lower your prop pitch when on theground, otherwise you'll have a runaway aircraft! The only slight negative I observed, is that when you arestationary with the engines shut down, you will notice the aircraftstart to wobble. This will stop after a few seconds but just seems alittle strange. MSFS does have a few small quirks with its flightmodel (also being tweaked), so I'm sure this is something that willvery quickly be rectified. Overall, flying the Long-EZ is a very hands-on and rewardingaircraft! You'll be sure to enjoy it both on short circuits andperhaps further afield. Opinion And Closing RemarksOverall I have thoroughly enjoyed flying the Long-EZ and it is anaircraft I will certainly follow the progress of. It looks fantastic, feels great and has reasonably good audio quality. /images/reviews/longez61/t/IndiaFoxtEcho-Long-EZ-09.jpgMSFS has a long road ahead in which to mature (still early days)and as such I am sure improvements will be made to the SDK. Theseundoubtedly will allow developers like IndiaFoxtEcho to update and addfeatures to an already fantastic model. If you're looking for something hands-on and quirky to kick-startyour flying on the all-new Microsoft Flight Simulator, then theLong-EZ by IndiaFoxtEcho is certainly a great start! The Long-EZ has a canard layout, with a delta wing and wingtiprudders, and a pusher engine and propeller. The tricycle landing gearhas fixed main wheels with streamlined spats, and a retractable nosewheel. Its predecessor was the VariEze, plans of which were firstavailable to homebuilders in 1976. The prototype, N79RA,of the Long-EZfirst flew on June 12, 1979. 19. /images/notams/notams20/dino1116.jpgNOTAM - Possible pilot figure misplacement on the Long-EZ afterFlight Simulator 1.10.11.0. update. Some users reported that after the latest Microsoft update, theysee the pilot figure in the Long-EZ model misplaced (apparently moreoften in the "Showcase" views). Like all of the default planes, the Long-EZ does not have pilotmodels, but links them from the MSFS library (allowing you to selectdifferent figures). The problem seems generated by the Microsoftupdate and I have reported it to Asobo - no official answer sofar. However, it is reported in the forums that this can be fixed by: Selecting one of the default aircrafts and start a flightClose the simRestart the sim and reselect the Long-EZWe could not replicate the issue in our systems - everything isworking fine on our end - so we cannot confirm this is actually asolution. By the way, the Long-EZ update is on short final - wedecided to add WWise sounds and we are tweaking them a little beforerelease. 20. /images/notams/notams20/dino1105.jpgSo...where are the updates? And will the MB.339 be available in theMarketplace? Well, as promised we are indeed working on updates for bothaircraft - but we want to make sure they are done right. Here is wherewe are: Long-EZWe now have a satisfactory flight model in place, but the autopilotfunction need more work. We hope the update will be ready in a week orso. MB-339The update will bring a number of small improvements and fixes...weexpect it to be ready around mid-Novemeber. We have decided not torelease version 1.00 to Microsoft due to their long lead times, so wewill release directly version 1.10 for them to deploy. MSFS BugsAside, Microsoft has identified and has a plan to solve both thelivery and switches bugs that plagued 1.10.7.1 and 1.10.8.1. As forthe livery bug, there is a workaround for it (which is to assign aspecific model entry for each livery in the aircraft.cfg) works...itis not optimal for memory usage, but it works. As for the switches bug (which is affecting a small number ofswitches on the 339) there is currently no workaround. Both areexpected to be solved in the next simulator updates. As For The Updates...Some people asked how updates on external markets aredeployed... the answer is "it depends". In the case of .zip files(that is SimMarket and FlightSim.Com Store), you will receive an emailwhen the update is released. Then you will need to manually replacethe package. As for Orbx, you will receive an email and then the product will beupdated through Orbx Central. As usual we'll keep you posted with theprogress. 21. /images/notams/notams20/dino1102/long-ez.jpgTwo small requests for help: 1) Long-EZ Flight Model: we have implemented the canard dynamicsintroduced in the latest Flight Simulator updates... and the behaviorof the aircraft changed quite a lot, to the point in which we want toretest it. Therefore we are looking to a couple of Long-EZ users witha significant flight experience in the real aircraft to provide somefeedback on the new dynamics. If you qualify and want to lend a hand, please drop an email to indiafoxtecho@gmail.com with subject "Long-EZnew flight model" and a small recap of your flight experience with thereal aircraft. /images/notams/notams20/dino1102/su-31.jpg2) We have almost finished modeling the SU-31...but we are havinga hard time finding very high-definition pictures of the aircraftgauges (they have to be good enough to create the backgrounddials). If you have some and are willing to share them, please let usknow. P.S. fast jet fans, do not despair...soon we'll have some news foryou guys too... 22. /images/notams/notams20/ift1026.jpgAs per our usual procedure, we took note of your feeback on theLong-EZ and we are moving forward with a product upgrade which will bereleased in a week or so. It is still WIP, but so far we haveimplemented the following changes: Canopy glass material redone from scratch (unintentional pun) so that scratches are very light now. Fingerprints are now limited to very few areas (i.e. where they are likely to be in reality) and the overall look is way more clear.Front panel texture redone completely and is now at a much higher res (still WIP in the picture...it needs some ageing to match the rest of the aircraft)The polycount for some details (gauges bezels, air diffusers) has been increased so that they can hold better on 4K monitors.Several parts have been retextured with Substance PainterAdded lubber line to the compassAdded an KAP-140 autopilot (but will only have very basic functionality - we are struggling with alt hold btw)As I said, that is not all we have in the to-do list... but wethink it is a (small) step in the right direction. 24. /images/notams/notams20/dino0923/longez-3.jpgIt seems that the proper support for canard planes has not beenincluded in the latest 1.9.5 update of Microsoft Flight Simulator aspromised... therefore, since I have been waiting for almost one monthnow, I have decided to publish the Long-EZ as is and then update itwhenever the canards are properly implemented by Microsoft. Note that the only appreciable difference is the stallbehavior... while in most other flight conditions, the aircraft shouldbehave in a realistic way. 25. /images/notams/notams20/dino0923/longez-3.jpgA couple of last minute changes to the Long-EZ for Microsoft FlightSimulator... The main instrument panel is back to its original blueishcolor. Although very uncommon I think it is a better fit with the restof the textures. The main external and internal textures have been remastered to8K... not a huge change from the external views (...maybe it is morenoticeable with a 4K monitor but I do not have one) but the cockpitview is definitely sharper.I put back the optional stick in the rear seat... I am not sureanyone will use the backseat for flying (or at all), but looks coolerfor screen shots. /images/notams/notams20/dino0923/longez-2.jpgThe package is being reviewed by Microsoft, which may or may nothave comments or change requests. I have no idea on how long thereview process is, but I am holding the release to other distributorsjust to make sure that there are no changes required by the Microsofteditors: having different products for different distributors is anightmare to manage, so I'll do what I can to avoid that. Then, I totally understand why Microsoft wants to moderate thecontent on its Marketplace... but some of the rules do not fit thatwell with the models I am doing and I'd like to do. We'll see and I'lljudge on a case-by-case basis... in ther worst case, I will use"traditional" simulation distribution channels to deliver myproducts. /images/notams/notams20/dino0923/longez-1.jpgSource Indiafoxtecho M-346 Development Continues Indiafoxtecho Updates On Long-Ez And MB-339 For MSFS
