/images/notams/notams19/orbx0712.jpgI feel that an explanation regarding the long delay with openLCAfrica is due, out of courtesy to the many people who have beenanticipating its release, and have done so for some years now. openLC Africa has been in development on and off for 2.5 yearssince openLC South America was released. It was always intended forrelease by the end of 2017 or early 2018. However, its development wassidetracked by three other side projects worked on by the developer -TrueEarth Netherlands for AFS2/P3D, R&D work on a possible Orbx Globalfor X-Plane and the port of TrueEarth GB South from X-Plane toPrepar3D. We have been given some WIP screen shots and I posted these up aweek or so ago. However, as you can appreciate, we cannot beta testscreen shots so it leaves us in a bit of an awkward position. For thatreason I have hidden that preview topic for now as I do not want togive anyone the impression that a release is any closer than it is. Weare working with the developer to ensure we do receive a beta for OLCAfrica. We announced the openLC series quite a few years ago. When wepublish a roadmap we always preface it with a clear caveat thatnothing we share is confirmed as a product we will actually ship, butonly our intention to develop it in the future. Whilst we did intendto cover the whole world with openLC products it was always a stretchgoal. Since that initial announcement our staff, resources andpriorities have changed many times within our company. Orbx has a solid track record for delivering most of what weannounce in our roadmaps but sometimes circumstances change and someprojects never see the light of day, even if they have been worked onfor years. Another example of that is our CityScape Cote D'Azur whichwe no longer provide previews for because the painstakingly slowhand-built nature of how it is being developed has long been surpassedby new automated techniques we use for TrueEarth and mini regionsaround key airports. In the software and games business, projects get cancelled all thetime, even some big AAA game titles. Studios close down, businesspriorities change, market conditions change. We have not signed acontract with our customers for finishing openLC globally so whilst itmay be disappointing for many of your that openLC Asia may never seethe light of day, and openLC Africa is at risk, it is what it is. Ihave a duty however to be open and transparent about the projectstatus. If we can progress with the development of openLC Africa then weintend to beta test then ship it ASAP. I'll keep everyone posted onthat front. John Venema Source Orbx - openLC Africa Pre-Beta Previews Orbx - Update On openLC Africa and Asia

/images/notams/notams19/orbx0712.jpgopenLC AfricaThis project has been delayed many times, and it's both our ownfault (we allowed the developer to focus on other projects) and one ofa lack of suitable data sources. The current status is about 75%complete and we have about 3.5 months of work to get to a full betabuild. The main issue is that a lot of the continent's landclass nowhas to be manually created due to a distinct lack of data inAfrica. The good news is that all textures are completed, and that isa large part of the project done. I do apologise for these continualdelays and I am mindful we have repeatedly promised deliverytimeframes which have not been met, which goes against our usual modusoperandi. openLC AsiaExciting news on this front! Holger Sandmann is now leading aparallel team to work on OLC Asia and work will commence in earnest inthe next week or so and we're aiming for a release well before years'end. This will be a spectacular and diverse region to explore and willalso include some amazing photoreal areas such as Mount Fuji in Japanto name but one. This means you can count on two OLC regions in your hands wellbefore Xmas. Source
