I think that, at this point, we can rule out the video memorylimitations - as the latest F-35 build has a video memory footprintwhich is much smaller than all of our other aircraft. 6. /images/notams/notams22/indi0515.jpgJust a quick update to let you know that, while we have beenworking very hard in the past few weeks on this update, we still havenot achieved all the goals we had set for this iteration. The most important point is a complete rewrite of the flight model, which will implement native MSFS Fly-By-Wire functions, including aproper G-limiter, stall protection and high AoA maneuverability. Unfortunately, the FBW functions of MSFS are poorly documented, andthe typical aircraft response is a little slow for a jet fighter. We are getting very promising results but we are not there yet, soit is unlikely that the update will be released during the weekend aswe planned. XBOX - the information above is for PC only. Once we have completedthe PC build, we will create an XBox specific version and submit itfor Microsoft approval. To reply to some of the comments we havereceived, IT WILL NOT BE A "DUMBED DOWN" VERSION. We plan to achieve a substantial reduction in video memoryfootprint by reducing the resolution of some of the textures andremoving unused geometry (like weapon models etc. - which arecompletely useless on the XBox). 7. /images/notams/notams22/dino0418.jpgFirst, we'd like to thank you once again for your support to ourF-35 project. Despite the initial stability problems experienced bysome users (thanks for your patience!) it has been a great success sofar, both in terms of sales and (more important for us) customerfeedback. During the weekend we have received several emails asking forupdates on this project in general, and in particular our progresswith the FCS system and XBox release, so here are some details onwhere we are. First, the general plan is to release a "quality of life" update(which will be 1.0.6) for the F-35 after Sim Update 9 isdeployed. This will be primarily targeted to solve a couple of minorbugs and mistakes and improve several small details in the avionics, and possibly take advantage of some of the changes of SU9. With regards to the two topics above: FCS - We have been doing quite a lot of work on the FCS, trying toimplement the native MSFS system. However we are not yet happy withthe results. In particular, the MSFS built-in fly-by-wire simulationseems pretty good for airliners, but not great for high-performancejets, especially in transonic and supersonic conditions. We will keep on working on it. As a temporary backup, we have tried restored the old XML-drivenautotrim system which is not super accurate but seems to work - but atthe moment we are focusing on the native MSDS fly-by-wireimplementation. XBOX - We have managed to significatively shrink the memoryfootprint of the F-35 down to approximately 730Mb. This is still wayabove the Asobo models (which are 200 to 300Mb) but *should* bemanageable. However, while the Microsoft/Asobo team thinks that thisis the main problem, frankly we are not totally convinced this is theonly issue with XBox compatibility, as there may be other things wehave not identified yet. The plan is to first complete the 1.0.6 improvements on PC and useit as baseline for a new XBox version - which will need to be testedby Microsoft. We hope this clarifies the situation. 10. /images/notams/notams22/dino0223/dino0223.jpgLet's start with the bad news: we do not have a date yet for theMarketplace/X-Box release. To recap the situation, we have submitted the latest build toMicrosoft, they reviewed it and they found that the aircraft wasfine... however, after the encryption, it causes a long "freeze" inthe hangar screen. Unencrypted copies work fine, so the problem lieson the Microsoft side. There is not much we can do apart from pushing and waiting. We are sorry for that but it is beyond our control. On the good side, we have (quickly) tested the F-35 with the SU8preview and it seems to work fine... however we will wait for thefinal SU8 build before releasing updates or do major changes, as weknow from previous experiences that the final build may change... ...and good things come for those who wait, so here is a quickrecap of the main improvements we have been working on (along with theusual bug fixes): /images/notams/notams22/dino0223/f35-1.jpg /images/notams/notams22/dino0223/f35-2.jpgHMD - We have been working hard to migrate functions from the old(and more realistic) HMD to the new one (way more stable). We arequite happy with the end result. TACAN - We have added support to pure TACAN stations, although atthe moment it is bearing/range only. This was slightly more difficultthan expected as the SDK has some typos and missing commands for theTACAN functionalities. Of course we'd like to bring this also to the339 and the T-45. COCKPIT NIGHT LIGHTING - We have added panel backlighting (stillWIP in the picture). IMAGERY FUNCTIONS (PSEUDO-FLIR, GROUND MAPPING) - Reason why theyare not included is that all the PCD is programmed in XML, and whileit was way faster for us to do it, it also quite limited in MSFS andin particular has no support for mapping and synthetic visionfunctionalities. The way we did it was to create additional polygons for the PCDscreen, apply a HTML5/JS-driven texture to them and stitch them overthe existing PCD screen. Moreover there is no real support for IR sensors, so what you do issimply to create a synthetic vision window in HTML5/JS and recolorit. Not great... but better than nothing. As for the new flight model we have promised, it is still beingworked on but most likely it will not be ready for the nextupdate. Also there are many other small defects we'd like to fix...andwe'll try our best to fix them over time. Source
  11. /images/notams/notams22/dino0213.jpgNOTAM - We have just released a minor update for the USS Americapackage, which fixes the incorrect position of the objects on the deckfor the LHA-6 placed in Hawaii. The update will be available with thetypical lead times (already available at the FlightSim.Com Store). Thepackage was also sent to Microsoft, but we have no news of the USSAmerica (or the USS Ford) for that platform. Aside, speaking of Microsoft, the F-35 was reviewed by theirquality team and it seems OK... BUT there seems to be a problem withthe encryption, which causes extremely long lead times in some caseson PC and X-Box. The problem is under investigation. It is unlikelythat the F-35 will be released on the Marketplace before this problemis solved. Source See IndiaFoxtEcho products at the FlightSim.Com Store

  13. /images/notams/notams22/dino0202.jpgFollowing many questions and private messages, we wanted to providean update on the F-35 Marketplace and X-Box release of the F-35: wehave submitted the files for Microsoft to review a couple of days ago, along with the carriers. The review process is in progress and so far we had just (very)minor comments - so it is looking good. Note however that the Microsoft review process can take anythingfrom few days to few weeks... and we have been surprised on both waysin the past (sometimes very easy reviews took weeks and very complexupdates took days) - it is probably depending on the Microsoft testteam workload. And no... we DO NOT HAVE A RELEASE DATE yet. And believe it or not, more often than not we receive notification of the Marketplace releasejust a few hours before the product is actually available. A WORD OF WARNING TO (SOME) X-BOX USERS: this is not a super-simpleaircraft you can easily play with the X-box controller and use it tozoom in canyons. Interaction with the PCD is difficult without a mouseand the pilot interface is realistic. In general the package isdesigned for MODERATE realism. We know that there are a lot of serioussimmers on the X-Box, but those waiting for a GTA-like plane will bedisappointed. Last... as developers we often do not have the time to test manyadd-ons from other vendors, and therefore we do not talk much aboutthem. We are making an exception for the Miramar MCAS rendition byLatinVFR - which is the perfect home for our F-35 and very nicestarting point for short flights to our LHA-7 ship. Source

  15. /images/notams/notams22/dino0128.jpgWe have been working hard for the past few weeks to try andunderstand the reason why so many users are experiencing CTDs of theF-35. As far as we can tell, the problem is generated by the customHUD/HMD JavaScript/HTML5 code. Why this happens on some machines, and not on others is still a mystery. We have created a new HUD/HMD basing it on the Super Hornet onefrom Asobo - early tests seem to indicate that may solve the problemsfor all the users who had frequent CTDs with the F-35. The current opt-in (more accurate for the F-35) will be stillavailable as "opt-in" for users who want it. We will be working the whole weekend to try and deploy the newbuild as soon as possible. If it is confirmed to be more stable for alarger user base we will release it for the Marketplace. 16. /images/notams/notams22/dino0123.jpgF-35 project update (CTDs, carriers, Xbox release and other stuff). First, we are sorry for the lack of updates and replies to yourcomments - we have been very busy at work on several things, and weprioritize direct requests for help (either via private messages oremails). Close To Desktop IssuesLet's start with the elephant in the room, that is CTDs. Unfortunately, after the initial claim by Microsoft that they wereable to replicate CTDs on the F-35, their investigation did not leadto much. The latest report we have received from them (on F-35 build1.0.1) is that "it is a very solid build [...] with no CTDs". This is CLEARLY NOT THE CASE in reality - as way too many users arereporting problems with this plane. And frankly we do not believe itis acceptable that a user has to fiddle with his/her configurationsfor hours in order to get it to work. The latest news, by the way, is that there are users who get rid ofthe CTDs by flying the T-45C first. On the other hand, there are many users, including Microsoft testteam apparently, that have no problems at all with the package - whichmakes the issue even more puzzling. We suspect that the problems lie on the HUD/HMD code, and arerestructuring it, getting rid of a everything which is not strictlynecessary, We will also provide an alternate configuration which usesthe F/A-18 HUD just in case. AS FOR DIRECTX 12 - A significant portion of the support request wereceive for F-35 CTDs is linked to immediate CTDs with DirectX 12. Aswe said before, the DX12 implementation is a Beta and it is notcompatible with the F-35. HOWEVER good news are that, according toMicrosoft, this will be fixed in SU8. X-Box And PC Marketplace ReleaseThis are both on hold. While we have positive feedback on the lastbuild, the CTD reports are still too many. We will resubmit the newbuild (1.0.2) as soon as it is available. Ford-Class CarriersThey are ready for release except the manual... we expect them tobe available for purchase shortly. F-35 Project UpdateThe next build (1.0.2) will solve a couple of (minor) graphicalmistakes, will feature a significant code cleanup of the HUD/HMD. Bypopular demand we are also increasing the engine sound volume. We do not have a release date for 1.0.2 but it is a question of days. We are also working on a major rework of the flight dynamics, witha proper implementation of FCS, but this will come at a laterdate. And What Is Next? We'll provide an update to our roadmap in a couple of weeks. Source
  17. /images/notams/notams22/dino0114.jpgFirst, we'd like to thank you for the overwhelming support to ourF-35 project. We are awfully sorry that so many users are experiencingCTDs and we are working with Microsoft and Asobo to understand theroot cause of the problem. The good news is that, analyzing the crash dumps, Microsoft hasfinally been able to replicate the issue, so we are making someprogress. WE WILL NOT RELEASE THE PACKAGE TO THE MARKETPLACE (PC AND XBOX)UNTIL WE HAVE FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS ISSUE FROM MICROSOFT. Note that some users have been able to solve their CTDs problems byeither following the official troubleshooting guide, or by updatingdrivers, etc. We have collected potential actions and FAQshere. Aside, we have just released an update for the F-35 which isprimarily aimed at fixing the throttle issue introduced by MSFS1.21.18.0 - however we have also introduced a number of fixes andimprovements. We are not happy with a number of aspects of the product - and weare working to improve it. Version 1.0.1 14-Jan-2022Systems update, throttle fix and miscellaneous improvements. It is also able to provide electronic warfare and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities. The aircraft has three main variants: the conventional takeoff andlanding (CTOL) F-35A, the short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL)F-35B, and the carrier-based (CV/CATOBAR) F-35C. /images/notams/notams22/ift0103/lightning-1.jpg /images/notams/notams22/ift0103/lightning-2.jpgKey features of this rendition for Microsoft Flight Simulator are: Detailed representation of the three variants of the aircraft, showcasing individual differences and commonalities Detailed external visual model and cockpit, based on extensive research Realistic pilot interface through the Primary Control Display (PCD) based on real world simulators Liveries for all the air forces and services that are currently flying the F-35 Realistic flight dynamics based on publicly available data STOVL capabilities for the F-35B Carrier capabilities for the F-35C (special code to perform assisted takeoff and landing from any static surface) Sound package based on real world recordings /images/notams/notams22/ift0103/lightning-3.jpg /images/notams/notams22/ift0103/lightning-4.jpgNOTE: The package only depicts the Vehicle Systems and some essential Mission Systems. 19. /images/notams/notams21/dino1224.jpgEven with additional testing, we could not find any causality linkbetween the F-35 and CTDs experienced by some of the Beta users. Asmany of you have noted, the thing is that Sim Update VII seems to havecompatibility and stability problems - which are, apparently, due tovarious causes - and CTDs seem to appear randomly during flight. A quick search with Google will give you an idea of the entity ofthe problem, as well as several potential causes and remedies (whichwork for some, and not for others BTW). Just to make an example, apparently the latest nVidia drivers(released just a few days ago) solved the problems of severalusers... but started creating issues with other systems (e.g. one ofour development computers started suffering from CTDs after the driverupdate...) Also, there is still small percentage of users who claim they donot have CTDs with anything but the F-35. Still, we believe the F-35is fine - if anything, just because it seems to work perfectly formany users (and no, they are not the ones with super-fancy ninjasystems) - let alone the fact that the debug tools report zero errorsfrom the aircraft. All things considered, we have decided to move forward with the release. Due to the holidays we expect that the F-35 will be available on PC inthe first days of January 2022 on SimMarket and slightly later onOrbx. As for the Marketplace release, we'll wait until Microsoft willrelease the next update - we are currently developing the F-35 on1.21.18, and, at the moment, Microsoft only accepts packages builtwith 1.21.13 (which is not a viables solution for us due to bugs inthe package building process). As for the XBOX, release date will depend on the results of thetesting at Microsoft. Our intent is to release exactly the same buildas the PC version... but maybe Microsoft will request somechanges. As for the price, exact price will depend on currency exchange andapplicable VAT taxes... but it should be pretty much the same as ourT-45. Once again we thank you for your patience and your support! 20. /images/notams/notams21/dino1222.jpgFirst, we wanted to THANK YOU for your overwhelming support to ourdecision to put the F-35 release on hold. Having such a dedicated and understanding customer base is awesome. Also, we know that many of you have been anxiously waiting for theF-35 - and seeing it was delayed just few days before Christmas was ahuge disappointment. We'd like also to thank the test team - we had a very wide testbase for this project, and we experimented a public discussion on ourDiscord server (that was appreciated by most...and hated by afew). After extensive testing, we think we have SOLID EVIDENCE that theCTDs ARE NOT CAUSED DIRECTLY BY THE F-35. In particular, theaircraft: Does not generate errors in the MSFS console during package building, loading and flightAll the code and scripts have been checked for errors multiple times with different tools, no errors reportedMost testers reported no errors in extremely long flights and complex flight activitiesAlso, most of the testers who had CTD problems were able to fixthem. Problems were related, in most cases, to: Nvidia driversHags (especially with AMD cards)Scenery cache and content not up-to-dateEnglish (US) language package missing from WindowsAzure text-to-speech problemsAudio drivers Windows update...and the list goes on. Still, it remains a percentage of users with CTD problems, whichseem worse if they use the F-35, and we are trying to get to thebottom of this before committing to a new release date. We'll do more testing in the next few days and we'll keep you posted. Source
  21. /images/notams/notams21/dino1213/dino1213.jpgYet another quick update on the F-35 project: We have submitted Beta 2, which was supposed to be our ReleaseCandidate, to the testers but early feedback were clearly a "NO GO"due to CTDs for several users. We have identified a few minor mistakes in the scripts that couldlead to CTDs - although we were unable to replicate them. A new Beta 2 version (BETA 2 HOTFIX 1) has been submitted to thetesters - if this proves to be free from CTDs we believe we canrelease the package before the end of this week.,/p> As usual we'll keep you posted. /images/notams/notams21/dino1213/indiafoxtecho-f35.jpgIn the meantime, here are some screen shots from the latest testflight - by the way, carriers will be offered as a separate"companion" product for the F-35 - they will NOT be included in thepackage but will be sold separately (for a VERY small price) - thiswill allow us to keep the final price of the F-35 as low as possiblefor users that do not want the ships, and (possibly even moreimportant from our point of view) will allow us to update themindependently from the aircraft. 22. /images/notams/notams21/dino1207/dino1207.jpgSince many are asking about the status of the F-35 project, hereare some good and bad news. Let's start with the bad news first: we DONOT have a release date at the moment, and the reason is that we havereceived a huge amount of feedback and suggestions during the Betastage, and we are trying to chase EVERY one of them. As of today, we have logged no less than 224 change requests comingfrom Internal tests, Alpha test and Beta 1 test and we addressed 202of them. The good news: we believe the quality of the product is now muchbetter and we believe it would be acceptable for a commercialrelease... BUT we are not releasing it until we have fixed at leastsome of the outstanding issues. We expect to release a Beta 2 to the test group very soon - releasedate will depend on the feedback from Beta 2. We'll keep you posted.Unfortunately the effort on the F-35 took most of our time andresources over the past ten days, so we still owe you updates on theMB-339 and T-45C. Long story short: /images/notams/notams21/dino1207/dino2.jpgMB-339An update is in the works mostly to fix the smoke issue generatedby SU6 and SU7. The update is almost ready, and will bring some othersmall improvements too. T-45CThe last update was meant to improve the flight model, which wasbroken after SU6, however some of the modifications were too extremeand the aircraft is now too maneuverable and needs to be fixed. Wewill also improve the HUD and the (fake) carrier dynamics - as a note, our CVN-78 model will have a T-45 Carrier Qualificationconfiguration. Long-EZNo need for updates at the moment (fingers crossed). Source
  23. /images/notams/notams21/dino1129/f35-1.jpgWe know there is a lot of expectation on our F-35 project, and weare trying our best to deliver a decent rendition of this awesomeaircraft - we are humbled by your enthusiasm and support and we reallyhope that, even with all the limitations of MSFS for modern militaryaircraft, this Lightning II rendition will not disappoint (toomuch). We have some good news and bad news. Let's start with the bad news: the development has suffered somedelays this week for a number of reasons and unfortunately Sim Update7 quirks did not help. In particular, the Dev Mode of Sim Update 7seems to have some serious bugs which make the process way morecumbersome (for one, each time you make a modification and rebuild theF-35 package you are forced to wait 4-5 minutes minimum - previouslyit was 10-20 seconds tops). The good news is that, while not ready for release, we finally havea decent BETA build which is ready for a test on a larger user base. If you think you can help with the F-35 Beta, please see this poston our blog on how to apply for a test slot: Apply Here /images/notams/notams21/dino1129/f35-2.jpg /images/notams/notams21/dino1129/f35-3.jpg /images/notams/notams21/dino1129/f35-4.jpgSource IndiaFoxtEcho Clarifies F-35 Release Plans
  24. /images/notams/notams21/dino1116.jpgNOTAM - We have received several messages today asking about theMSFS F-35 release. Apparently, there is a rumor that the release isquestion of hours. While we appreciate your interest in this project,we DO NOT have a release date for the F-35 yet. We will first check it against Sim Update VII (which will bereleased Thursday) and we will try to leverage some of the featuresthat will be introduced with it (like FINALLY properafterburners). It is therefore IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY that the plane will beavailable any time before Saturday November 27th. Speaking about Sim Update VII(*) once it will be available, we willrelease updates for all of our aircraft (Long-EZ, MB-339 andT-45). * NOTE: Microsoft has provided us with a preview build of SUVII,however, for some reason, we were not able to install it on some ofour computers. In any case, we always wait for the final build beforetaking action - as historically the test build had significantdifferences from the final version. Source
  25. /images/notams/notams21/dino1102/f35-1.jpgAfter the latest internal review, we think we have cleared most ofthe quality issues that drove our decision to delay the release of theF-35, but at the moment the projected release date is around theNovember 15th - which makes no sense as Sim Update 7 is planned forNovember 18th (and it is supposed to fix a number of the shortcomingsof the simulator for supersonic fighter jets). Moreover, there isalways the chance that SU7 may break some of the features of the plane- so we will first wait for the release of SU7, check that everythingworks and if there is any important improvement we can make with thenew features and then release the F-35. /images/notams/notams21/dino1102/f35-2.jpgThe extra time will be spent in adding some features that wepreviously decided to leave out from the initial build... such as areworked autopilot interface and a static CVN-78 carrier (we do notlike static carrier approach as it is not very realistic, but it is amuch requested feature). Do not expect anything as good as the DCSSupercarrier, but at least you will be able to perform launch andrecoveries (and if you set 30 kts wind from the bow the approachdynamics is still not realistic, but not incredibly awful). ...and speaking about DCS, we know we have been very quiet latelyon that platform, but that is because we have been working hard onit. We will have more news next week. Source
