/images/notams/notams19/vsky0116.jpgThe VSKYLABS Test-Pilot: Mini-500 Pilot's Operating Handbookrev.001 is ready for you to read! It is a very exciting and unique VSKYLABS project, designed toreplicate the initial test-flights and familiarization phase of a newhome-built experimental helicopter by its owner. As the project is undergoing its final preparations for the initialversion release, the complementary POH was just released and availableto all enthusiasts. It will be prone to ongoing updates, so every oncein a while is it recommended to check the version of the POH(currently rev.001). It's time to get familiar with the magnificent and innovativeRevolution Mini-500 helicopter, as the VSKYLABS Mini-500 is beingprepared for its release...and for its first flight as a home-builtkit, Experimental helicopter. The POH features all the needed information and data for asuccessful first flight, as well as some 'First Flight Briefing' tipsand directions. Get the Mini 500 POH The VSKYLABS 'Test-Pilot: Mini-500' News FlashDuring the past several weeks, in which deep flight testing andevaluation took place, it got clear that the project is a part of theVSKYLABS 'Test-Pilot' projects series. What does it mean? Well...it means that several aspects ofhelicopter flying (and the Mini-500 flying in particular) are beingdemonstrated and highlighted, and are part of the flying experience bydefinition: manual engine/rotor rpm management, low rotor-inertiaaspects, in-flight nose tuck during engine-stop, rotor RPM management, retreating blade stall condition (Vne) and more. The VSKYLABS Test-Pilot: Mini-500 is designed as if it was a realkit-built helicopter, awaiting for its first test-flight. Was itbuilt exactly as instructed? Will it fly as expected? Wow, there isonly one way to find out! You will have to get to know it step by step...or you might getyourself into serious trouble when mistreating it... It sure is a fascinating flying machine and a true challenge tomaster, not intended for the novice pilot. The original pilot's manual was one of the core-materials duringdevelopment of this project, and the VSKYLABS Mini-500 pilot's manualis built based on it. It's time to refresh these helicopter flying and aerodynamicstheories...you will need them to survive the first test-flight! Source

/images/notams/notams18/vsky1008.jpgThe single seat VSKYLABS Revolution Mini-500 Project was throttledup right after the release of the VSKYLABSGuimbal Cabri G2 Project, and it is being constructed step by step, to follow the relevantplans, reference materials and general components characteristics ofthe home-built kit. Because of various reasons, mostly related to X-Plane's upcomingv11.30 update, some of the VSKYLABS development priorities has changeda bit, to allow these two things to happen: A) Existing VSKYLABS projects maintenance and updates in the lightof the upcoming XP 11.30. B) Pushing forward pending projects which are assumed to haveminimum issues with the upcoming XP 11.30. So...as it is having significant progress, here are some initialfacts worth knowing about this little fella: Its designer, Mr. Dennis Fetters, modeled it as a scaled downversion of the McDonnel Douglas 500D. This should be fun as there areplans to create an armed law enforcement/military variant of theMini-500!The (real) kit included the following components: Hour meter,Compass, Slip/Bank indicator, ASI, Altimeter, VSI, Nav and Landinglights, Engine gauges (rotor/engine rpm, temps) ground wheels forhandling and the Rotax 582/72 hp engine. All of these will be includedin the initial release version of the project, along with an optionalGNS430/530 for navigation/radios and a transponder.Empty weight is 420 lbs, while Max gross weight is 820 lbs. Fuelcapacity is 15 gal, which can be utilized for 3 hours flight(endurance) or ~196 nm. Max cruise speed is 83 kts.The throttle is being managed manually throughout the flight, andthe pilot should pay attention to rotor and engine's RPM. The Mini-500throttle control does not use a governor. This should be a veryinteresting aspect of the project!Source www.vskylabs.com
