  1. /images/notams/notams21/a2a1118.jpgI just wanted to say that as of yesterday, thanks to our brilliantMichal Krawczyk and Mark Smith, we appear to be out of the woods withAccu-Sim and MSFS2020. It goes to show that there is almost nothingyou can't do if you put your mind to it and don't give up. Today for the first time, I took off and performed a bunch ofmaneuvers in the air, came back with a nice flare and landed in anall-new Accu-Sim Comanche 250. All major road blocks are cleared. We were lucky, during this long dry spell of development the USmilitary has been making huge use out of Accu-Sim technology as thishas paid the bills at A2A. We have an Accu-Sim turboprop and turbojetalready on the shelf that we can use for any future airplanes, thanksto this military development along with a lot of cool avionics. So now that we have this Comanche 250 in place we can properly planfor MSFS development. Keep in mind that being brand new tech, systemsand physics, it will take longer for this first airplane, which is whywe chose the Comanche 250 since we know it so well. But once thisairplane is out the Accu-Sim production line will be in place, so tospeak. Source

What can be said about this iconic aircraft that has notalready been said? This famous airframe designed in 1936 was intended to replace theRoyal Air Force's ageing biplane fleet. Used extensively throughoutWorld War 2, it was the only fighter to be in continuous productionthroughout the conflict. The Spitfire, renowned for its incrediblehandling, has been forever loved by its pilots and naturally feared byits enemy. During the Battle of Britain, German ace Adolf Gallandapparently even told Hermann Goering that he wanted a squadron ofthem. Originally part of their Wings of Power series, the Spitfire (aswell as a few other famous WW2 aircraft) are now available on P3D V4,and V5. /images/reviews/a2aspit/t/A2A-Spitfire-01.jpg /images/reviews/a2aspit/t/A2A-Spitfire-02.jpgInstallationInstallation was quick and simple and is something I have come toexpect from A2A having owned quite a number of their models throughoutthe years. DocumentationThe 'Pilot's manual' discusses the aircraft's history as well asflying procedures. This was incredible in-depth at 100 pages long. Theformat was clear but also simplified in places so that it was veryeasy to reference pieces of data quickly. I also liked how the textstyle used and general format was that of the period. This gave thefeeling of actually reading a real vintage Spitfire manual. The second manual is called the 'Accu-sim manual', and I found thisto be more of a technical piece as it contained an enormous amount ofdetail about how the aircraft worked in the sim. It had lots ofdiagrams, pictures, and even how Accu-sim works. /images/reviews/a2aspit/t/A2A-Spitfire-03.jpg /images/reviews/a2aspit/t/A2A-Spitfire-05.jpgExteriorWhen it came to the exterior, I was extremely impressed with theattention to detail and modelling of the Spitfire (even after allthese years). High resolution textures had been used throughout andeven the smallest details seemed not to have been overlooked. Forexample, there were even visual indicators on the wings to signal theposition of the landing gear, as well as the outlines for the bodypanels and rivets. Unfortunately, despite being available on thenewer-generation P3D platforms, there was sadly no PBR or dynamiclighting effects to be seen. That being said, even with theseomissions, the Spitfire was still visually impressive! As what's now a given with A2A models, you can change certaincomponents of the aircraft, and here the Spitfire was nodifferent. Options include the ability to change the canopy design andalso substitute the propellers between a 2-blade wooden prop, or athree-blade variable pitch metal one. Other realistic features includea ground crew in which to help keep the tail down during run-upchecks, plus a starter unit for the Mark 1's and aircraft jacks. /images/reviews/a2aspit/t/A2A-Spitfire-06.jpg /images/reviews/a2aspit/t/A2A-Spitfire-07.jpgLiveriesDuring the Spitfire's life, there were 24 different variants (notincluding naval versions). In this package, A2A has modelled thefollowing early versions: Mark 1, Mark 2A, and Mark 2B. In total therewere 4 liveries (all from the Battle of Britain) and includes adescription about it accordingly, which is a nice addition. InteriorThe Spitfire's cockpit is similar to most fighters of the era andis best described as cramped. If you were on the small side, you had alittle more legroom, but for those with long legs...it was tight. However, once settled in, you get an idea of why the Spitfire wasso loved by those luckily enough to fly it. From a design layout(unlike an American fighter such as the P-40), it was much lessintimidating. This was mostly down to the way the cockpit wasdesigned. Due to the nature of the switches and gauges, learning thelayout was a lot easier than many other fighters of the time. /images/reviews/a2aspit/t/A2A-Spitfire-10.jpg /images/reviews/a2aspit/t/A2A-Spitfire-11.jpgWhen starting the Spitfire for the first time (a realistic andhighly rewarding task in itself), you are greeted by not only a lot ofnoise, but also vibrations. This greatly adds to the realism and ifyou have never experienced it before in a simulator, it really isquite something. Flight ModelWhen talking about the Spitfire, you cannot help but conjure upromantic images of its legendary flying characteristics. Loved by herpilots, I have to say that the A2A model has pretty much the sameattributes. In the air she is an absolute delight, being both gracefuland agile. She is fast with acceleration to match...no surprise reallywhen you consider her pedigree! The way A2A have managed to replicate the flight model in a sim isa testament to their skill and perseverance.   4. For some reason my recently bought A2A C172 add on opens without power. At best, the engine makes a few gargle sounds before it dies. Troubleshooting performed: I have tried restarting the engine, using the appropriate checklists but without any success. CTRL+E doesn't do anything either. I have removed and reinstalled the add on several times but that didn't work either. Contacting A2A customer services is nightmare. So....can anyone please help me get my aircraft back to life again? Every new one is a newlearning experience, a unique piece of machinery to get the hang of,and the P-40 is no exception. When first reading up about how to makeit go, I found the hydraulic system a bit intimidating; it needn't be,it's just a different way of doing things. On the first flight thetakeoff was more alarming than I expected. And I'm still working on mylandings. (I think I'm aiming for a three-pointer when the proper wayto do it is to fly it on in a tail-low wheel landing.) In the air,trimmed, it's rock steady, a joy to hand fly. The engine noise isdifferent, almost like a big auto engine. The view is exceptional. Allin all, it's a truly exciting experience. I had an Airfix model of the Tomahawk as a kid, back when I wouldrun around my room with my planes, making gnneeeowwwww noises. Itturns out that same plane is one of the color schemes in thepackage. The resemblance of the model and the real life imageswas spot on and the model absolutely features the same high qualitythat I have also found in several other A2A Simulation aircraft. The textures are high quality, multi-layer textures that providethe model with a very realistic and authentic look. The aircraft looksold and used as expected with a certain degree of wear and tear, butat the same time it also looks freshly polished and shiny. The detailing is superb and even the metal plates and the rivetsused for mounting the metal plates are nicely created and integratedinto the model providing a very realistic look. The motion is smooth and realistic and keeps thesame high standard as the model. Included are also some effects like the propeller, the lights andthe engine smoke upon startup. The propeller effect is veryrealistic and it does change a bit according to various rpm settingwhich is really super. The smoke upon startup features first a smallburst of dense black smoke followed up by white and less dense smokewhich is then blown away by the propeller. Hereafter you only seesmoke if you set the values of the engine incorrectly e.g. causing theengine to perform badly with a wrong mixture setting. Actuallyanother effect when starting up the engine is the shake-effect whichis absolutely perfect and authentic both viewed from outside andinside the cockpit. The lights are excellent and feature a clear and bright shine whichalso seems very authentic. You can also customize the load-out of the aircraft simultaneouslywith viewing the aircraft by selecting the 'Shift+Number keys'. Thiswill open up a variety of unique windows and one of these are thePayload and Fuel Manager 'Shift+4' - here you can select eithervarious bombs on the inner pylons or fuel tanks, you can also selectbombs on the outer pylons as well as to load ammunition for theguns. The quality that I found in themodel is absolutely also found in the cockpit. There is no 2D cockpitfor this add-on, only the virtual cockpit, but the quality is reallysuperb so in my opinion there is no need for a 2D cockpit for thisaircraft. Looking around the cockpit I just kept on finding new details -both major details but also very tiny details that just add up andprovide the simmer with a sensational experience. E.g. the legendsthat are placed all over the cockpit and within the gauges, the steelframe for the seat, the wire that is connected to the throttle,rivets, small screws that are used to mount the various panels,etc. The textures used are high quality multi-layer textures featuringboth a clean but also a slightly dirty look meaning that there are acertain degree of wear and tear all over the cockpit environment as Iof course also expected. The degree of wear and tear is sparse and thecockpit do look newly renovated however, the wear and tear is visiblenumerous places like on the edge of the throttle quadrant and on someof the steel plates where the paint has been worn off. The focus has certainly kept a high level to insure thebest possible experience of this classic warbird. The 3D performance works beautifully and the finish in the completecockpit environment is simply just stunning. This is absolutely anexcellent and beautiful cockpit that is fully operational and with 99%working systems, buttons, switches and levers. There are several animations included like the controls, thevarious extra levers, the needles in the gauges, the toggle switches,push buttons, canopy, etc. All animations are created with a realistictouch and feature nice smooth motions. The engine sound is awesome and features all aspects from startupto shutdown and all various rpm settings within. Actually you can alsohear what sounds like the engine going from max power (100%) over toWEP power, which is the extra boost the engine can get to deliveradditional thrust for a short period of time. The engine sound whenstarting up and running at idle is really authentic and makes youdream that you were actually placed inside the cockpit and ready forflight; then throttling up the sound gets louder and louder with moredepth and base which really is very exciting and gave me the goosebumps on my back when using my 7.1 surround sound setup. In regards to the environmental sound set then this sound setfeatures all sounds created by moving the various levers,clicking the various buttons and switches, etc. but also the windoutside which is very clear when the engine is at idle or even offwhen performing an emergency landing. I tested the sound set in both ordinary stereo with front speakers,also using a 2.1 setup featuring front speakers and an activesubwoofer and finally a complete 7.1 surround sound setup. The soundperformed perfectly in all tests and the sound varies nicely whenwalking around the aircraft as well as when jumping inside which issuperb. Flight Dynamics And CharacteristicsNow to the fun part which of course is the actual flight tests -No, I haven't flown this old classic bird in real life, but certainlywould love to try it one day. Therefore my opinion of the flightcharacteristics and dynamics rely on my experience flying real lifegliders, motor gliders and GA aircraft. First part is the taxi, and this aircraft is on that part verychallenging. You don't have a great forward view due to the tail-wheelconfiguration giving the aircraft a high nose position and this makestaxiing quite challenging. The best way for me was to taxi like I wasdrunk meaning going slightly left, then right, then left,etc. Performing this taxi I used the wheel brakes a lot since I didn'treally figure out if the aircraft could be controlled by the tailwheel - I don't think it can so this was great practice. /images/reviews/a2ap51dm/t/a2a-p51d-military-18.jpg /images/reviews/a2ap51dm/t/a2a-p51d-military-14.jpgPerforming the engine test prior to take-off I discovered that ifyou throttle up too rapidly the engine will cough which I assume is dueto the lack of fuel reaching the engine in time. This is great and Ithink very well in accordance to real life. I also noticed that thecockpit panel had various degrees of shaking according to the rpmsetting which really is a superb detail. Now ready for take-off I throttled up to max power rather quicklywhich resulted in a strong torque with which I had severe problemscounteracting which my rudder, so in desperation I had to also applywheel brakes - this I had to try a couple of times before realizingthat the best way to overcome this issue was simply just to throttleup slowly. By changing the increase of power to a slower motion gaveme more steering capability of overcome the heavy torque. Quitereasonable when you think about it, because throttling up too rapidlyprovides a huge torque very quickly without any speed / wind-pressureon the rudder, and this changes if you increase the throttle slowerbecause you then build up speed / wind-pressure on the rudder more tocounteract the torque... When the speed started building up I could lower the nose and get abetter view and after a few more seconds I was airborne. The firstthing that I discovered was that this aircraft needs to be flown allthe time; it is very much alive and you feel all the thermals, all theturbulence and bursts of wind - I can recommend spending some timetrimming the aircraft properly otherwise you do get drained of energyjust trying to fly a straight course. /images/reviews/a2ap51dm/t/a2a-p51d-military-26.jpgDuring my flights I tested if lowering the flaps would haveany impact on the stalling speed or the nose position as you wouldexpect from a real life aircraft, and of course this was a part of theflight characteristics of this aircraft. I found a difference of about20 MPH in regards to stalling speed from flaps up vs. flaps down. Alsothe nose position lowers when the flaps are lowered which again isalso superb and true to real life. On the top left of the cockpit there is placed what looks like ahorn - but I didn't get any stall warning - maybe there is a switchwhich can turn that horn on/off which could be the reason for me notgetting the stall warning. The same goes with overspeed - I am quite sure that in real lifethere is no overspeed warning in the P51 and I also didn't hear one onmy test flight, however there is actually what you could call anin-built overspeed warning and that is the fuselage and wings making alot of cracking noises. Works well enough for me! I of course also wanted to test the stall and spin capabilities ofthis aircraft as I always do when testing an aircraft. What Idiscovered with the P51 is that this aircraft likes to spin and it isnot always that easy to recover. I often experience difficultiesrecovering if I had applied engine power, and for some reason it wasmore likely to make a good recovery with the engine at idle - maybethis has something to do with the heavy torque generated by theengine... Stalling the aircraft was a superb and very realisticexperience, because you could hear the wind getting silent, the panelstarted to shake, the aircraft started to make cracking noises, therumble outside as the aircraft crossed the stalling point, the lack ofcontrol and then the loss of lift going into a spin with the volume ofthe wind outside suddenly increasing rapidly - Awesome experience andvery true to real life. /images/reviews/a2ap51dm/t/a2a-p51d-military-28.jpg /images/reviews/a2ap51dm/t/a2a-p51d-military-29.jpgAfter testing my skills of stalling and spinning this aircraft Ialso went on to perform various aerobatic maneuvers. Here I foundsomething rather interesting. First I tried performing a simple loopbut I always ended up stalling the aircraft about half way around andcould not understand why. This even though I entered the loop with maxairspeed - I thought OK, then I just have to pull a bit stronger makingthe loop shorter in diameter, but that only resulted in stalling theaircraft over and over again. The reason for my troubles was that I had a more or less overloadedaircraft with full internal tanks and pilot but also a full armamentand external fuel tanks making the aircraft extremely heavy. This doesmake good sense that I experienced these problems, so when changingthe load-out to the clean or moderate weight I could now easilyperform the loop, the roll and other maneuvers. I very much like thatthe flight characteristics and dynamics are dependent of the weight anddrag of external armament because this just makes the experience morelife-like and authentic. So to be honest - on all my test flight I did not always recoverfrom the spins and aerobatics which several times resulted in a crashlanding. This however was also an experience because the aircraftwould be banged up with bent propeller and now was unable tofly. Also when re-starting the flight the aircraft now started out asI left it meaning smashed and with a bent propeller. The reason forthis is that an in-built feature for this aircraft is that theaircraft state, fuel, other fluids, propeller, etc. are as the lastflight ended hereby forcing the pilot to perform maintenance thoughthe maintenance hangar and load manager. Really an awesome detailwhich I think could be rather irritating for some simmers that justwant to get up in the air, but I like it very much. Awesome! This aircraft is absolutely a challenge to fly but this just makesthe experience even better I think - but landing the aircraft was evenharder. You cannot fly an MD11 type final with this aircraft because yousimply can't see enough straight ahead. I had to make amedium/high final giving me the best forward view and then whenflaring the aircraft the nose would again be so high that I couldn'tsee anything straight forward, now just hoping that the line that Ihad the aircraft on before flaring, would still be right - of course Icould keep my eyes on the left and right edge of the runway, but yes,this aircraft is also quite challenging to land. /images/reviews/a2ap51dm/t/a2a-p51d-military-10.jpgConclusionTo sum up my experience with the add-on aircraft from A2ASimulations, then this is an amazing and awesome, authentic and trueto real life rendition of the classic warbird, the P-51 Mustang. The entire manual is quitethorough and complex and does require much time to read and understand- however you can of course just focus on what you find important butmy recommendation would be to read most of it - it is a good read andit does provide you with a better understanding of this aircraft. For the simmers that are not familiar with these features, then thevirtual hangar is a feature where you can customize the aircraft withvarious selectable changes - this can be the tire type, the batterytype, enable or disable wing tanks, close gaps between the wing rootand fuselage and add or disable several other specific parts like theelevator tips or the specific propeller. You can also here performmaintenance on the aircraft by changing the oil or other fluids orparts or even performing an entire overhaul - you have to do this tomaintain the aircraft since the wear and tear and usage will have animpact on the aircraft over time potentially resulting in errorsduring flight. You can actually also jack up the aircraftand thereby examine the landing gear properly by raising and loweringthe gear - this is within one of the other shift+number key windowsnamed 'Controls'. In the payload and fuel manager you can add fuel for both the leftand right wing and of course also for the wingtip tanks if they aremounted on the aircraft (can be enabled/disabled in the virtualhangar). Here you can also select how many people to be on the flightand how much baggage etc. and the best part of this is that by addingpeople or fuel to the aircraft, the aircraft immediately respond toit. The environment is very realistic and creates aperfect atmosphere when flying this old bird. Looking around the cockpit I saw an old cockpit with oldinstruments but absolutely not an old worn-out cockpit, more anold and perfectly cared for and maintained cockpit showing some degreeof wear and tear various places. E.g. the fabric on the seat islighter at the front end/edge then in the center providing a used andrealistic look for an aircraft of age. Also the carpets on the floorin front of the front seats are stained which looks like oil or greasestains or it could also be dirt or mud. I also found several scratchesaround the cockpit as well as worn-off paint on some of the few metalplates especially around the screw hole in the corner of these metalplates. The finish is also super and it isquite obvious that A2A Simulations once again has kept a focus ondetails, realism, authenticity and of course also eye candy and actuallyan abundance of it. There are multiple animations added to this cockpit like the yokes,the rudder pedals, the various levers, buttons, switches, the door andmany more. All animations are created with a smooth and realisticmotion and fits the environment perfectly. There are also various effects included such as when starting upthe engine, the cockpit panel will shake until the engine is atidle. Increasing the RPM I also noticed that the cockpit panel wouldchange 'shake profile' so that the shake appears very realisticallyaccording to a specific RPM setting. I did not notice any needle shakein the various gauges which I would have expected from e.g. the VSIwhen taxiing over a rough surface. Sitting in the cockpit and looking out the windshield Isee the raindrop scattered around my view with realistic bubbles, butit gets better because when the engine is at idle the raindrops justhit the windshield, however when you apply power and increase theRPM the raindrops will be blown upwards with a dynamic speed that isin accordance to the RPM meaning that the more power you apply, thefaster the raindrops move upwards. /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-31.jpgThe aircraft also features a simplified autopilot which iscontrolled using the knob connected to the 'Turn Coordinator'gauge. The heading is selected using your navigation gauge and on theyoke you will find an 'auto-pilot disengage button'. I did not find a2D cockpit for this add-on. SoundThe sounds created for this add-on are absolutely superb andfeature both a sound set for the entire RPM settings on the enginealso including startup and shutdown, and also a variety of additionaland various environmental sounds covering everything from switchesbeing clicked, flaps moving, wheels rotating, brakes squeezing andmany more. All sounds are created with a focus on realism and supportthe flight simulation experience superbly by creating a very realisticand authentic sound-atmosphere. /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-17.jpg /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-18.jpgThe engine sound is a deep rumble that just increases in volumewhen increasing the power setting - an awesome experience that reallygive me chills on my back because I can really hear the immense powerbeing provided by the engine. Flying at cruise and enjoying the scenery still provides a greatand realistic sound experience - and if you throttle down to idle youwill now hear the wind outside which will increase in volume if youincrease your IAS by making a more rapid descent. I have tested the sound sets in both ordinary stereo using a stereoheadset, but also in a 2.1 environment using two front speakers and anactive sub and finally also within a 7.1 surround soundenvironment. The sound performance was perfect in all tests and thesound is clean, clear and absolutely very authentic. Flight Dynamics And CharacteristicsGround handling is easy with this aircraft - it reacts quickly whenchanging the throttle setting and when you apply the wheel brakes youget an instant decrease of taxi speed. The nose wheel steering is veryeasy and the aircraft can turn within a very small diameter. /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-22.jpgThe forward view is excellent as well as the view to both sidesproviding a great overview when taxiing the aircraft. When the engineis at idle you do not need to use the wheel brakes for the aircraft tobe at a standstill. Performing the engine tests prior to takeoff with the wheel brakesapplied, I noticed that the nose of the aircraft would go downwardaccording to the throttle setting meaning the more throttle I gave themore the nose went downward and pushing the nose gear suspension toits limit - this is of course also very well in accordance to reallife. Another thing that I noticed was the IAS gauge - when you in thevirtual hangar select the elevator tips to be mounted, it is statedthat the Vne speed will increase due to better stability - this wassurprisingly also added to the gauge itself, so when I applied theelevator tips the gauge changed to now show an increased Vnespeed. That is a great detail! /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-26.jpg /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-28.jpgThe IAS gauge also nicely displays the Vno, Vs, Vso, Vfe and Vlospeeds perfectly and in accordance to the specs of theaircraft. Increasing the RPM when performing the takeoff I wouldexpect some yaw due to the rotation of the propeller. I did detect ayaw but it was easy to counteract also when the wheels lifted off theground - definitely nothing like taking off in the Bonanza V-tail. Flying the Comanche is much like other GA aircraft - it's a lowwing structure but with a nice V-shaped profile which provides a goodstability. You can easily trim the aircraft so that you minimize yourworkload and on top of that the aircraft also features the simplifiedautopilot to also ease the work and potential stress in thecockpit. I started out with a climb to see if I could reach the serviceceiling of 20,000'. At first the Comanche climbed fast and steady butcrossing the 15,000' mark the climb is radically reduced. I reached atotal of 24,700' but it really took a long time to reach that altitudeand after passing the 20,000' mark it was a climb with about 250 feet/minindicated on the VSI. I think the flight dynamics regarding theservice ceiling is fairly realistic because what is stated is notnecessarily the absolute maximum altitude. Flying at a constant RPM and suddenly lowering theflaps resulted in the nose going downward which it also should. Alsoif I counteracted this motion and kept the nose angle the same as wellas keeping the RPM the exact same, I saw that the IAS would decreasewhich I would also expect due to more drag. Additionally I also didthis test by lowering the gear instead of the flaps and the result wasthat the nose angle stayed the same and the IAS began to decreaseagain due to more drag as per real life. Next test was the stall and spin tests and here I tried out stallswith criteria as straight-out with level wings and 25 degree nose upand secondly with a bank angle of 45 degrees and 25 degrees nose up toboth the left and right side. I did these tests both with full powerand with idle power and also with flaps and gear down versus flaps andgear up. All tests were performed at an altitude of about 2,500'. The result was not the same for each setup. In general I would saythat stalls that appeared with the engine at idle were very gentle andnormally just resulted in the nose dropping both when flying straightout with level wings and when making a turn. If I didn't counteractthis it resulted in a spin which, however was easily recovered bychanging the throttle to idle, pushing the nose down and counteractingthe rotation with the rudder, then level the wings and softly pull outof the dive. Just before entering the state of stall the aircraft became verymuch alive and wobbly, and when the stall kicked in you heard arumbling sound, the wind and also a sound of metal being dented - thesound set for the stall is absolutely awesome. Flying the final and landing the Comanche was easy - the aircraftis very steady and quick on the response of my control inputs, so eventhough flying the final in gusty weather was not really thatdifficult. I also tried coming in extremely high on the final to seeif the aircraft was able to perform a side-slip and of course itwas. I tried out both a left and a right side-slip and I could see thealtimeter spinning down rapidly while the IAS was still within normalstate - that is a superb characteristic built into this add-on. Flaring the Comanche also works nicely and when the wheels touchdown on the runway, you get a nice cockpit panel shake effect. No warning when stalling the aircraft other than thewind and the rumble. Over-speeding the aircraft also does not activatea warning but of course the sound of the wind gets very loud. ConclusionOverall this is a superb and excellent rendition of the Comanche250 that seems true to real life - I am of course not qualified tostate that it truly is like the real Comanche since I have never flownthat aircraft in real life, but it does fly like I expected it toaccording to the various specs and my personal real aviationexperience. I find the Comanche to be very authentic and I love the focus andthe detailing that A2A Simulations has given this aircraft both inregards to the model, the cockpit, the flight dynamics and the soundas well as to the experience package. Additionally when you have clicked on an inspection point, younow get the inspection info of what to inspect and also thepossibility to actually do an action. For example, you can click the inspection point on the tail which nowchanges the view to the tail section and provides a shortdescription. If you click the first icon in the 'Actions' menu, thenthis action will tie down the tail. There is also a light shakeeffect of the aircraft when the engine starts up but this is quicklyover when the engine is running at idle. The lights are crystal clear and feature a warm and realisticbright shine that certainly is very enjoyable viewing the aircraft atnight time. The smoke effect is only when starting the engine whichprovides a small but fair amount of relatively dense smoke which veryquickly is blown away by the propeller - if you throttle up and downrapidly and get the engine to choke, you will also experience smallbursts of smoke coming from the engine exhausts just below thecockpit. /images/reviews/accuv35b/accusim-v35b39.jpgThe propeller effect is good and fair with a realistic look to itand I of course like that by increasing the rpms the propeller alsochanges visually - not much but enough for it to be good andrealistic. InternalGoing into the aircraft was certainly a very good and realisticexperience - the cockpit is a beautiful virtual cockpit completelyfilled with an abundance of details, high quality modeling, 100%working buttons, switches and systems; truly a very authenticrendition of the classic Bonanza cockpit. /images/reviews/accuv35b/accusim-v35b32.jpgThe cockpit in general is very lifelike and the seats with theleather cracks and stitches are just perfect for creating a veryauthentic atmosphere. There is no 2D cockpit included, only the virtual cockpit but thisis so well made that I think most simmers would prefer the virtualcockpit anyway. The depth performance is awesome and the finish is spoton; this is absolutely a cockpit that has had a lot of focus. Inside the cockpit I also found nummerous animations such as thecontrols (yoke and pedals), various levers, buttons, switches and ofcourse the gauges. All animations are carefully created andfeature a very realistic and smooth motion. One thing I did noticeabout the gauges was that when taxiing over a rough surface likegrass or small bumps or similar, I would expect some of the needles inthe gauges to be impacted - meaning that I would expect a needlemovement behavior as e.g. in the A2A Cherokee. What I found wasalmost perfect un-impacted needles except for the VSI which wasalready impacted by the shake from the engine at idle but also the EGTneedle showed a tiny impact which just again adds to the experience,the realism and the atmosphere of this aircraft. /images/reviews/accuv35b/t/accusim-v35b13.jpg /images/reviews/accuv35b/t/accusim-v35b26.jpgThere are some various effects included like the light effect whichis really superb. You can control the cockpit lights in the overheadwhere you can switch on/off the white color for both left and rightside, but you can also turn on either the red or green light or both,which gives a much more soft light when flying at night thanthe whte lights. The landing light is very powerful and illuminatesthe gound perfectly with a bright shine. When the engine starts up the cockpit panel shakes heavily and evenwhen the engine is running at idle, the panel still features the shakeeffect. The rain effect is really good andvery realistic - when you get into the aircraft with engine off thereis not really anything out of the ordinary, but when you start up theengine you will experience the raindrops shaking on the windshield andsuddenly the raindrops will start moving upwards due to the windprovided by the propeller. It does not stop there because when youthrottle up and accelerates down the runway, the raindrops movementupwards will also accelerate - really a superb and very realisticdetail. SoundThe sounds included in this aircraft are absolutely high qualityand authentic sounds - especially the sound of the engine. Externallythe sound of the engine is very similar to other GA aircraftavailable for P3Dv4, however with a superb idle sound for thepropeller when standing behind the wings - here you can really hearthe propeller blades cutting through the air molecules. Even justthe sound of the engine when running at idle is superb with a veryauthentic and realistic deep rumble. Increasing the rpms alsoincreases the deep rumble which then pitches up a bit but still keepsthe powerful roar that certainly provides the simmer with a sense ofgreat power - I almost got the chills when testing this on my 7.1surround sound with the subwoofer turned up a bit more thannormal...Wow! Also included are several other sound sets such as the environmentalsounds featuring clicks when clicking buttons or toggle switchesor using the flaps. You also have the stall horn which sounds veryrealistic and when flying you can also hear the wind outside thewindow - flying faster the wind outside increases in volume but whenflying slowly with the engine at idle or with the engine off, the windis also very noticeable and good quality. I tested both the external and internal sounds in both ordinarystereo, 2.1 with front speakers and an active sub and finally alsowith my 7.1 surround sound setup - all the included sounds are createdperfectly and of a great quality and certainly represents thisaircraft beautifully with a real and authentic experience. Actuallythere are also a sound set that covers the pre-flight inspection aswell as a sound set for the maintenance hangar - these sound sets arenot that complex but provide an extra deep experience of theaircraft. Flight Dynamics And CharacteristicsThe flight dynamics was great fun to test and even though I haven'tflown this bird in real life, I am quite stunned by the effort putinto all aspects of this add-on, and here especially how this aircraftflies and behaves during various settings and weather themes. /images/reviews/accuv35b/t/accusim-v35b23.jpg /images/reviews/accuv35b/t/accusim-v35b33.jpgThe aircraft is very challenging to fly and certainly not easy so Iunderstand why it got its bad nickname for sure. I started out with ataxi which actually is very easy to perform. The engine reacts fairlyquickly, the steering is with a quick and firm reaction, the aircraftcan turn 180 degrees on a very small radius and to top that, thebrakes are very efficient. Powering up the engine for takeoff generates quite some torquewhich of course is controllable but do be very careful when liftingoff; now you will be impacted with a heavy torque throwing the nose tothe left. If this is true to real life I am uncertain, it is really aheavy torque and I experienced it on all my test flights - maybe ithas something to do with the V-tail not being as efficient as astraight upward tail? To overcome this I found that when the nosewheel lifted off the runway I applied additional rudder to the rightside to compensate for the torque impacted when the main wheels liftedoff - this made the takeoff smoother, but wow it did take me quitesome time to master since the controls are very sensitive. /images/reviews/accuv35b/t/accusim-v35b20.jpg /images/reviews/accuv35b/t/accusim-v35b22.jpgFlying the Bonanza was much like flying other smaller GA aircraftbut the controls are certainly sensitive and you need to plan everyturn and coordinate correctly with all controls, just like in reallife. I did a test on the secondary impacts of both the ailerons andthe rudder. When just applying the rudder as e.g. the right rudderpushing the nose to the right, the secondary impact will be that theright wing also slowly drops like if you were using the ailerons -this was perfectly simulated into this add-on but when testing thesecondary effect on the ailerons the aircraft failed. When usingonly the ailerons for a left turn (meaning without the use of therudder), the secondary impact should be that the nose would be pushedto the right (going upwards) thereby creating a very dangerous flyingposition - what I found was that applying left ailerons also gave meleft rudder. I checked the function with the auto-rudder in the P3Dmenu to see if that was activated and thereby would override thesimulation, but no, the auto-rudder was disabled. That was a smallminus on the realism. Moving on I tested the behavior of the aircraft when stalling itand whether it would or would not enter a realistic spin. My firststall test was straight up 10 degrees, flaps and gear up and throttleat idle - the result was a shake, nose drop and a spin that wasentered to the right. I now did the test once again but with the flapsand gear down instead; the result was a shake at a lower IAS which Ihad also expected, nose drop but no spin entry - the aircraftcontinued to be controllable however extremely wobbly. /images/reviews/accuv35b/t/accusim-v35b14.jpg /images/reviews/accuv35b/t/accusim-v35b17.jpgThe next stall test was with nose up 10 degrees, 45 degree bankangle, flaps and gear up and throttle at idle. This I did to both theleft and the right and the result was a shake, nose drop and full spinentry primarily to the right even when banking to the left. Only a fewtimes I encountered a spin-like state to the left. I am not sure ifthat is realistic but it could of course have something to do with thetorque, however this was all performed with the engine at idle. Just to see if the engine speed would impact the stall I did thestalls once again but now with both 50% and 100% rpms - now the resultwas a full spin to the left instead of the right so my guess is thatthe aircraft would normally spin to the right but due to the powerfultorque, the aircraft is forced into a spin to the left. It was veryinteresting to see how the aircraft behaved under these conditions andalso a very good way to experience and learn how this aircraft fliesand where the borders for safe flight are. There are not that many chimes included and I only experienced achime/warning if I had the throttle at idle with flaps and gear upmeaning the landing gear warning. I did not hear any overspeed warningor other warnings but that might be very true to real life since thisaircraft is just an old GA. I also tested the max speed in level flight with no wind andaccording to the specs I should reach 167 KIAS and what I saw on theneedle was 168 KIAS meaning that was like spot-on. Secondary to thistest I noticed the wind outside which was low volume flying slow butdid increase greatly when flying fast - really nice and realisticdetail. A couple of other things I also tested were when lowering theflaps I would expect the nose to also lower automatically and viseversa. This was beautifully integrated into the flight dynamics andcertainly provided me for a more realistic but also more challengingflight. Coming in high for landing on a small strip you have in real lifethe option of performing a wing-glide/sideslip, but most availableadd-ons does not have this feature,however the A2A Bonanza does and itis awesome. You are able to drop altitude very fast but it is not easyand you certainly need to be 100% in control all the time because thisaircraft is a challenge to fly and performing this action requireseven more skills. For the simmers that are not familiar with these features, then thevirtual hangar is a feature where you can customize the aircraft withvarious selectable changes - this can be the tire type, the batterytype, enable or disable wing tanks, close gaps between the wing rootand fuselage and add or disable several other specific parts like theelevator tips or the specific propeller. You can also here performmaintenance on the aircraft by changing the oil or other fluids orparts or even performing an entire overhaul - you have to do this tomaintain the aircraft since the wear and tear and usage will have animpact on the aircraft over time potentially resulting in errorsduring flight. Each inspection point is nicely shown on the path aroundthe aircraft and by clicking on the point a window pops up withdetailed information about that specific point also featuringillustrations and images. You can actually also jack up the aircraftand thereby examine the landing gear properly by raising and loweringthe gear - this is within one of the other shift+number key windowsnamed 'Controls'. In the payload and fuel manager you can add fuel for both the leftand right wing and of course also for the wingtip tanks if they aremounted on the aircraft (can be enabled/disabled in the virtualhangar). Here you can also select how many people to be on the flightand how much baggage etc. and the best part of this is that by addingpeople or fuel to the aircraft, the aircraft immediately respond toit. Looking around the cockpit I saw an old cockpit with oldinstruments but absolutely not an old worn-out cockpit, more anold and perfectly cared for and maintained cockpit showing some degreeof wear and tear various places. E.g. the fabric on the seat islighter at the front end/edge then in the center providing a used andrealistic look for an aircraft of age. Also the carpets on the floorin front of the front seats are stained which looks like oil or greasestains or it could also be dirt or mud. I also found several scratchesaround the cockpit as well as worn-off paint on some of the few metalplates especially around the screw hole in the corner of these metalplates. There are multiple animations added to this cockpit like the yokes,the rudder pedals, the various levers, buttons, switches, the door andmany more. All animations are created with a smooth and realisticmotion and fits the environment perfectly. There are also various effects included such as when starting upthe engine, the cockpit panel will shake until the engine is atidle. Increasing the RPM I also noticed that the cockpit panel wouldchange 'shake profile' so that the shake appears very realisticallyaccording to a specific RPM setting. I did not notice any needle shakein the various gauges which I would have expected from e.g. the VSIwhen taxiing over a rough surface. The heading is selected using your navigation gauge and on theyoke you will find an 'auto-pilot disengage button'. I did not find a2D cockpit for this add-on. SoundThe sounds created for this add-on are absolutely superb andfeature both a sound set for the entire RPM settings on the enginealso including startup and shutdown, and also a variety of additionaland various environmental sounds covering everything from switchesbeing clicked, flaps moving, wheels rotating, brakes squeezing andmany more. Flying at cruise and enjoying the scenery still provides a greatand realistic sound experience - and if you throttle down to idle youwill now hear the wind outside which will increase in volume if youincrease your IAS by making a more rapid descent. I have tested the sound sets in both ordinary stereo using a stereoheadset, but also in a 2.1 environment using two front speakers and anactive sub and finally also within a 7.1 surround soundenvironment. The sound performance was perfect in all tests and thesound is clean, clear and absolutely very authentic. Flight Dynamics And CharacteristicsGround handling is easy with this aircraft - it reacts quickly whenchanging the throttle setting and when you apply the wheel brakes youget an instant decrease of taxi speed. The nose wheel steering is veryeasy and the aircraft can turn within a very small diameter. /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-22.jpgThe forward view is excellent as well as the view to both sidesproviding a great overview when taxiing the aircraft. When the engineis at idle you do not need to use the wheel brakes for the aircraft tobe at a standstill. Performing the engine tests prior to takeoff with the wheel brakesapplied, I noticed that the nose of the aircraft would go downwardaccording to the throttle setting meaning the more throttle I gave themore the nose went downward and pushing the nose gear suspension toits limit - this is of course also very well in accordance to reallife. Another thing that I noticed was the IAS gauge - when you in thevirtual hangar select the elevator tips to be mounted, it is statedthat the Vne speed will increase due to better stability - this wassurprisingly also added to the gauge itself, so when I applied theelevator tips the gauge changed to now show an increased Vnespeed. Increasing the RPM when performing the takeoff I wouldexpect some yaw due to the rotation of the propeller. I did detect ayaw but it was easy to counteract also when the wheels lifted off theground - definitely nothing like taking off in the Bonanza V-tail. Flying the Comanche is much like other GA aircraft - it's a lowwing structure but with a nice V-shaped profile which provides a goodstability. You can easily trim the aircraft so that you minimize yourworkload and on top of that the aircraft also features the simplifiedautopilot to also ease the work and potential stress in thecockpit. I started out with a climb to see if I could reach the serviceceiling of 20,000'. At first the Comanche climbed fast and steady butcrossing the 15,000' mark the climb is radically reduced. I reached atotal of 24,700' but it really took a long time to reach that altitudeand after passing the 20,000' mark it was a climb with about 250 feet/minindicated on the VSI. I think the flight dynamics regarding theservice ceiling is fairly realistic because what is stated is notnecessarily the absolute maximum altitude. Flying at a constant RPM and suddenly lowering theflaps resulted in the nose going downward which it also should. Alsoif I counteracted this motion and kept the nose angle the same as wellas keeping the RPM the exact same, I saw that the IAS would decreasewhich I would also expect due to more drag. Additionally I also didthis test by lowering the gear instead of the flaps and the result wasthat the nose angle stayed the same and the IAS began to decreaseagain due to more drag as per real life. Next test was the stall and spin tests and here I tried out stallswith criteria as straight-out with level wings and 25 degree nose upand secondly with a bank angle of 45 degrees and 25 degrees nose up toboth the left and right side. I did these tests both with full powerand with idle power and also with flaps and gear down versus flaps andgear up. All tests were performed at an altitude of about 2,500'. The result was not the same for each setup. In general I would saythat stalls that appeared with the engine at idle were very gentle andnormally just resulted in the nose dropping both when flying straightout with level wings and when making a turn. A few times it did resultin a short spin which was easily recovered. /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-34.jpg /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-09.jpgThe stall that happened with full throttle were a lot moreaggressive and mostly resulted in loss of lift on the left wingforcing the wing downward as well as the nose. If I didn't counteractthis it resulted in a spin which, however was easily recovered bychanging the throttle to idle, pushing the nose down and counteractingthe rotation with the rudder, then level the wings and softly pull outof the dive. Just before entering the state of stall the aircraft became verymuch alive and wobbly, and when the stall kicked in you heard arumbling sound, the wind and also a sound of metal being dented - thesound set for the stall is absolutely awesome. Flying the final and landing the Comanche was easy - the aircraftis very steady and quick on the response of my control inputs, so eventhough flying the final in gusty weather was not really thatdifficult. I also tried coming in extremely high on the final to seeif the aircraft was able to perform a side-slip and of course itwas. I tried out both a left and a right side-slip and I could see thealtimeter spinning down rapidly while the IAS was still within normalstate - that is a superb characteristic built into this add-on. Flaring the Comanche also works nicely and when the wheels touchdown on the runway, you get a nice cockpit panel shake effect. Theharder you touch down the more severe the effect will be. /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-39.jpg /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-40.jpgSince this aircraft is an old GA aircraft you don't have that manychimes or sounds at all - you do have a beeping sound when youdisengage the autopilot and you also get a highly annoying sound whenyou lower the flaps and set the throttle to idle without lowering thelanding gear. No warning when stalling the aircraft other than thewind and the rumble. Over-speeding the aircraft also does not activatea warning but of course the sound of the wind gets very loud. ConclusionOverall this is a superb and excellent rendition of the Comanche250 that seems true to real life - I am of course not qualified tostate that it truly is like the real Comanche since I have never flownthat aircraft in real life, but it does fly like I expected it toaccording to the various specs and my personal real aviationexperience. I find the Comanche to be very authentic and I love the focus andthe detailing that A2A Simulations has given this aircraft both inregards to the model, the cockpit, the flight dynamics and the soundas well as to the experience package. This aircraft can be used bysimmers that just want to get flying in a realistic environment tosimmers that want all the aspects of flight including maintenance andthe pre-flight inspection - this is absolutely awesome! /images/reviews/comanche/t/a2a-comanche-250-41.jpgThe Comanche is certainly a high quality aircraft in all regards -pricewise well... yes it is quite expensive compared to other add-onaircraft but the complexity, the quality and the experience you getflying this bird is just so much better. Personally I find the pricefair and I certainly am looking forward for spending many more hoursflying this aircraft. I have tested several A2A Simulation aircraft and this Comanche isthe same high level of quality that you also find in their Bonanza,the PA28-180 and their P-51 - truly an awesome flight simulationexperience that I can only recommend, especially if you enjoy theexperience of flying GA aircraft and even more if you like old classicGA aircraft.
