/images/notams/notams21/vsky1012.jpgVSKYLABS C-47 Skytrain Flying Lab Project v4.0r4 for X-Plane byLaminar Research Update was just released! Update includes a long-waited fix for the dual DME radios, whichwere replaced with a fully functional, independent dual DME radio thatallows to fix your position with the use of separate NAV1/2 radios, while still on-navigation with NAV 1/2. In addition to that, all overhead radio stack frequency knobsinteraction was modified with a new system that allows more intuitivefrequency setup using the mouse and the VR controller. Update was injected into the project, and the store build will soonbe updated with the latest version (v4.0r4), to minimize the gapbetween the user-end progressive version and the store version. /images/notams/notams21/vsky0906/vskylabs-1.jpgThe VSKYLABS C-47 Skytrain Flying Lab Project for X-Plane byLaminar Research - Upcoming update v3.1 (Work In Progress). Some facts regrading the VSKYLABS C-47 Skytrain Flying LabProject: The project is being developed (for years) with the approach of aconstant C-47/DC-3 (virtual) restoration process. This is veryexciting as when parts and elements are getting *older*, they arereplaced with new/"restored" ones...it is quite of a fascinatingdevelopment journey that started back in 2016, through the release ofv1.0 in 2017, and up until present day, with approximately 25large-scale updates...and counting... The project features *Two* different aircraft variants with *Three*landing gears configurations. That is (one) the C-47 (Tail-Wheel),C-47 (Tail-wheel with skis which are taking part in the flightdynamics model), and (two) the XC-47C variant, which is a C-47equipped with floats that allows sea and land operations! It is equipped with Two speed Supercharger blowers, functionalOxygen system with crew masks, functional Fire extinguisher system(operation via a hatch in the cockpit floor), authentic propellersystems, Anti-icing and De-ice systems for the wings, props andwindshield along with visible icing simulation, Damage simulation,old-school Sperry autopilot that can be operated with S-TEC type modes(upon user decision). It has rain and icing visualization, interactivewindshield wipers...it has a working cockpit side windows thatinteracts with cockpit smoke and vetilate it in case ofsmoke-in-the-cockpit situations. It has *Two* cabing/cockpitconfigurations for passengers and cargo layout. The aircraft allowsfull old-school NDB/VOR navigation with the use of two VHF commradios, two VHF nav radios, ADF, transponder, authentic radio-compassinstrument...and two Garmin 530 panels that offers easy-access to GPSnavigation for the newer-generation pilots. /images/notams/notams21/vsky0906/vskylabs-2.jpg /images/notams/notams21/vsky0906/vskylabs-3.jpgUpcoming project update v3.1 is a very important milestone in theproject's internal architecture, functionality, and its overalllook-and-feel. Progressive release phase will be initiated in the verynear future. The full update features list will be showcased soon, stay tuned! Source

/images/notams/notams21/airf0108/dc3-3.jpgWe would like to present to you the results of our latestdevelopment progress of the iconic Dakota airplane. The screens represent the current state of 3d modelling and PBRtexturing. Behind the scenes the basic flight model is ready but as weaim for high realism, it will take time before all the systems will befinished. The release date is not set - we want a study level Dakotathat we dream about and that is the priority. /images/notams/notams21/airf0108/dc3-2.jpgThe story behind Dakota project is that we have started acooperation with French Association Merville-Dakota: http://www.the-snafu-special.com/ We are very grateful to them for providing us with information andopportunity to gather visual data of the aircraft and otherdocuments. There will certainly be a special livery dedicated to theirC-47. The amazing fact is that this precise plane flew the night of 6June 1944 and dropped paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division overNormandy. We would like very much to catch some of this history in thesimulation. /images/notams/notams21/airf0108/dc3-1.jpgMore Technical FactsThere will be two variants of the Dakota C-47 (Military) and DC-3 (airliner) and there will be differences in the doors location as well as in the cabin layout. We are making FMOD sound pack inhouse for better Pratt & Whitney "music".Similarly to our King Air 350 we would like the aircraft to be user friendly nevertheless the realism will be there for hard simmers. We have an opportunity to consult the project with a real DC-3 pilot. /images/notams/notams21/airf0108/dc3-4.jpgThat's all for now. We will keep you updated.I wish you good health and lot's of amazing flights. [Editor's Note: while the developers don't ever say, based on their pasthistory we believe this is for X-Plane 11.] Juraj Source

It was used extensively by the Allies during World War IIand remains in front line service with various military operators. The C-47 differed from the civilian DC-3 in numerous modifications, including being fitted with a cargo door, hoist attachment, andstrengthened floor, along with a shortened tail cone for glider-towingshackles, and an astrodome in the cabin roof. /images/notams/notams19/heav0607/c47-1.jpgJune 6, marks the 75th anniversary of "D" Day. So, we are announcing our homage to the almighty Douglas C-47 andin particular, "That's all Brother", the C-47 that led the armada ofSkytrains across the English Channel to Normandy on that fatefulday. This is perhaps, our most challenging and rewarding project todate. Simply, because we are going all out to provide the mostdetailed, hi-definition models of this aeroplane ever produced. /images/notams/notams19/heav0607/c47-2.jpgFeatures Will IncludeC-47 military and DC3 Dakota civilian versions with a wide choiceof liveries.High definition modeling in full, accurate detail, down towire-strand locking wires on components in the cockpit and fullymodelled gauges with correct assemblies and 3D needles and all dialswith raised paint markings, etc.High definition PBR textures inside and out with highly realisticfabrics, metals and paintwork, ageing and weathering effects"On-the fly" configuration panel allows you to change liveries, colors, materials and ageing effects whilst flyingd. /images/notams/notams19/heav0607/c47-3.jpgAlthough we can't make it for "D" Day, she's on the front burnernow and will be available this year. Currently we are making for P3D V4.4+ only (due to workload on PBRetc.) but depending on demand, we will look at other sims. We also plan to provide "That's all Brother" in as complete ahistory as possible from original as in 1944 right through to today'srestoration and all the owners in between. /images/notams/notams19/heav0607/c47-4.jpgSource
