  1. Hi i research an ATR 42-500 from Air Saint Pierre like: https://jcai.dk/images/F-OFSP-1.jpg : https://i.ytimg.com/vi/06REndPujJ8/maxresdefault.jpg Bonjour je recherche un ATR 42-500 de chez Air SAINT PIERRE merci!
  2. A42-500Publisher: CarenadoReview Author: Meng YuSuggested Price: $44.95/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.pngA collaboration between French companyAerospatiale (famous for the Concorde and later merged into Airbus)and Italian company Aeritalia (now Leonardo S.p.A.), the ATR-42 was aregional turboprop designed to sit 42 passengers in its standardconfiguration, hence the number "42". Since its inception, severalvariants have been introduced, adding improvements such as upgradingthe 4-bladed propeller into a 6-bladed one for improved efficiency andreplacing the outdated avionics with a newer glass cockpit setup. /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-liveries-07.jpgThough it was originally designed as a commuter turboprop, theaircraft has also demonstrated its versatility by serving FedEx as afreighter and with the military as a maritime patrolaircraft. Currently, ATR is seeking to develop an STOL variant of theATR-42 which would only require 800 meters of runway for take-offcompared to 1100 meters it normally requires. For comparison, even aBeechcraft King Air 350 requires about 1000 meters for takeoff. Despite its popularity with airlines however, the ATR series ofaircraft has suffered several issues in its career. The mostnoteworthy of these defects is the issue of turbulent airflows thatform in a such a way as to lift the ailerons on the aircraft, causingthe flight crew to lose control of the aircraft, unfortunatelyexemplified in the incident of American Eagle flight 4184. As aresult, ATR-42s and 72s now mostly serve southern routes where icingconditions are rarer. First ImpressionsUpon firing up your simulator, eight HD liveries are present to greetyou, including a blank livery for your creativity. Disappointinglythough, the Carenado House livery appears to merely be a white liverydespite the thumbnail suggesting otherwise. /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-start-01.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-start-02.jpgCarenado has elected to model the -500 series ATR-42, meaning thatwhilst the aircraft will utilize the new 6-bladed propeller, therewill be no glass cockpit. Additionally, only the passenger variant ofthe aircraft is modelled, though this is understandable as majority ofATR-42s still carry passengers. Exterior AppearanceKeeping in line with their previous products, Carenado's visuals onthis aircraft are simply stunning. 4096x4096 HD textures, fullyanimated doors and the inclusion of various static elements such aswheel chocks and the GPU are all but standard on this aircraft, leaving little room for complaints. /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-liveries-01.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-liveries-02.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-liveries-03.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-liveries-04.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-liveries-05.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-liveries-06.jpgAs previously mentioned, the eight liveries include that of Carenado,Lufthansa Regional, Bahamasair, Air France HOP!, Blue Islands Airways,Air Dolomiti, Hawaiian and Czech Airlines, in that order. For somereason, Carenado has decided to label these aircraft by theirregistration instead of airline name, leading to a somewhat confusingexperience picking out the livery you wish to use. Nonetheless, frequent users of this aircraft will very quickly become familiar withthe registration of each livery. Moreover, should you wish to havemore liveries for this aircraft, there are a significant number offreeware liveries out there. In fact, Inibuilds have made severalliveries for the Carenado ATR-42 available for free and having tried afew of them, I can attest to the fact that they are very high qualityindeed. Another huge positive for this aircraft is that, unlike previousmodels, it is not divided into "full" and "lite" versions. Instead, itonly has one single version that provides frame rates similar to the"lite" version whilst retaining the virtual cabin, a feature of the"full" version. It seems that Carenado has put some seriousoptimization work into this product to achieve the best of bothversions here. /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-exterior-01.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-exterior-02.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-exterior-03.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-exterior-04.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-exterior-05.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-exterior-06.jpgInterior AppearanceMoving onto the inside of the aircraft, we are once again greetedby a very good looking interior. Carenado has kept up their stellartrack record of producing beautiful aircraft and this ATR-42 is noexception. /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-interior-01.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-interior-02.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-interior-03.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-interior-04.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-interior-05.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-interior-06.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-interior-07.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-interior-08.jpgBesides the high-quality textures, there are a variety ofadditional tidbits, including sun visors, armrests and cockpitdoors. These breath life into the cockpit, as you can configure yourcockpit to your exact liking. Additionally, moving behind the cockpit, an entire virtual cabin isalso modelled. While there isn't too much to do back here in thecabin, it is worth noting that the cabin animations are synced withthe exterior model. For example, looking at the pictures below, if thefirst and third windows are closed from the interior, the same will bereflected on the exterior model. I find details like these highlyinteresting as they show that the developers are interested increating a quality product, especially since they could haveeliminated the small details without anyone noticing too much butchose to include them nonetheless. /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-windows-01.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-windows-02.jpgOverall, I feel that the virtual cockpit is extremely well-modelledand textured, with small details liberally sprinkled in to breath lifeinto the interior of this add-on. Systems SimulationWhile previous Carenado aircraft seemed to be rather light onsystems simulation, I'm happy to report that the ATR-42 has seen vastimprovements in terms of systems modelling. For starters, the ATR-42's engine management systems are includedas part of the aircraft. These control the pitch of the propellersduring critical phases of flight to both ensure efficiency and keepthe propellers spinning within specifications. Carenado has also takenthe liberty of creating a video tutorial, which you can alongside several other tutorials specific to the ATR-42.Additionally, the inclusion of "hotel mode" in this ATR is alsorather noteworthy. Whilst not meant to provide accommodation for crewsor passengers by any means, hotel mode is used by airlines that flyinto airports which do not have GPUs or external bleed air systems tostart the engines. To utilize hotel mode, the prop brake is employedin order to allow the right engine to stay running whilst keeping theright propeller stationary. (It's always been remarked that the ATR-42has an APU, the only catch being that it's also an engine!) Carenadohas modelled this into the add-on, allowing the user to engage theprop brake to keep the right engine running when turning the aircraftaround at smaller airports. Despite all the positives though, there are still a few areas thatrequire work to be done. For starters, the turboprop mechanics of the aircraft seem to berather off. Compared to videos depicting the real-world ATR-42, thepropellers of this add-on spin up way too quickly. If you move thecondition levers from cut-off to feather and immediately switch to theexternal view, the propeller would have already spun up. In real lifethough, it takes several seconds for the propeller to get up to speed. Additionally, the fuel cross-feed system appears to have no effectregarding the fuel quantity in each tank. Despite opening thecross-feed valve and turning on the right-side fuel pump, both tanksstill drain at the same rate. Finally, I was somewhat disappointed to see that the "universalFMC" is still used on this aircraft. There is nothing inherently wrongwith the universal FMC as it guides the aircraft just fine and hasprovisions for flying SIDs and STARs, something very important whenflying online. However, I had hoped that the universal FMC would'veseen some improvements since its early days in the Beechcraft1900D. The interface is still rather limited and there still lacks theability to perform VNAV functions, even ones as simple as calculatingthe TOD point. Nevertheless, on the whole, the ATR-42 still has several markedimprovements over previous Carenado airliners and the inclusion ofhotel mode, something that is unique to the ATR series aircraft, isa very welcome surprise. Flight DynamicsIn order to get a feel for the aircraft, I took the aircraft on ashort flight from Munich to Dusseldorf on the Lufthansa RegionalATR-42-500. /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-parked-01.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-parked-02.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-parked-03.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-parked-04.jpgLoading up at the gate, I used the Carenado utility to set theaircraft to a cold and dark state. The utility provided is very handysince it eliminates the need of first loading up the default Cessnaand turning everything off before loading the aircraft you wish tofly. Pre-flight of the aircraft was completed using the providedchecklists, which allowed me to start the aircraft up ratherquickly. As with other Carenado airliners, I did wish that Carenadoincluded a tutorial PDF which outlines where the switches are as itcan be difficult to locate all the different switches when loading upthis aircraft for the first time. Nevertheless, after setting the aircraft up, I had a ratheruneventful taxi to the runway. The aircraft was extremely responsiveto throttle inputs, a result of using the beta range, which controlsthe pitch of the propellers to vary thrust and gives quicker throttleresponse for taxi. Turning the ATR was also extremely quick, and I hadno issues making any sharp turns around the taxiways. Whilst I am nota pilot, the aircraft seems to pivot a little too quickly for anaircraft of its size. /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-takeoff-01.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-takeoff-02.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-takeoff-03.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-takeoff-04.jpgSoon enough, I was lined up on the runway and ready fortake-off. Advancing the throttles forward to full power, I quicklyreached take-off speed and a quick yank on the yoke later, I foundmyself comfortably climbing at about 1200 fpm. Following the magenta line on the navigation display was verysimple, and soon enough, I let the autopilot take over the flying. Theautopilot on this aircraft is custom-built, with several modesavailable to choose from. I opted to use the IAS mode, which adjustspitch to maintain a pre-set speed. Flipping the power management speed to climb, the aircraft quicklyreached cruising altitude, FL280 for today. As the ATR-42 has noauto-throttle system, you have to control the throttles yourself, making the aircraft more involved than other airliners. Nonetheless, the aircraft is stable enough for you to leave the cockpit momentarilyto handle personal matters when cruising. Soon enough though, it was time to start my descent intoDusseldorf. As mentioned before, the FMC does not calculate the TODpoint, so you'll have to do some mental arithmetic or use a utilitysuch as Simbrief or a paid add-on to know when to start yourdescent. During the descent, I opted to use VS mode, which allows youto select a vertical speed which the autopilot will then try tokeep. For what it's worth, the Carenado autopilot actually does keepthe aircraft flying how you want it to pretty well. /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-landing-01.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-landing-02.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-landing-03.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-landing-04.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-landing-05.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-landing-06.jpgOn approach, the aircraft is very easy to fly. Unlike other smallairliners, the ATR-42 keeps the glideslope very happily with minimalinput. With careful throttle and altitude management, I was able tomake a smooth touchdown. That concludes our test flight of the Carenado ATR-42! Final ThoughtsFrom my experiences with this aircraft, I feel that the CarenadoA42-500 is a very capable product. I especially liked that Carenadotook the time to model additional systems, especially hotel mode, which many airlines use on the ATR-42. Although some flight simmers may criticize the ATR-42 for lackingin systems depth, I personally feel that Carenado has achieved arather good balance between quality and difficulty, allowing lessserious simmers to have a very beautiful aircraft toenjoy. Personally, I like having an aircraft which I can fly withouthaving to go through several manuals first. Whilst I had hoped for a more capable FMC that's tailored to theATR-42, the universal FMC does get the job done in the end, and thesupport for third party navigation systems such as Flight1's GTN750largely alleviate the gripes one may have with a generic FMC. /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-end-01.jpg /images/reviews/carea425/t/Carenado-A42-end-02.jpgOverall, I'd say that the ATR-42 is a great sign that Carenado istaking more time to include systems unique to each aircraft andstepping away from simply providing eye-candy to flight simmers. Whilenot without bugs, if you're a fan of turboprop aircraft or looking fora simple airliner that provides more realism over default or freewareaircraft, I'd say that you can't go wrong taking a look at Carenado'sA42-500. /images/reviews/carea425/carenado-a42-500.jpgMeng Yu Purchase Carenado - A42-500
