Remote parts of the world look great in MSFS 2020. I have previously enjoyed touring around the Orkneys and Shetlands and lately have been visiting Iceland. Just the normal terrain here is uniquely colorful: You can also tie your tongue in knots with the place names, such as Þingeyri ... and learn new letters along the way! That unfamiliar letter is a "thorn", once used in old-English and still in Icelandic for the "th" sound: There are not many custom POI in Iceland, but today's trip went past one of them: Hvitserkur. This is an impressive rock formation, with a back story that it's a petrified bell-hating troll, and with a name that means "white shirt", a nice way of referring to the bird guano that covers much of it: Having found "fuglakúka rokk" I'm now on my way east...

Taburet - Canada Greenland Iceland Coastlines Trees Clearing MSFS
Nels_Anderson posted an article in HN
/images/notams/notams22/tabu1023.jpgThe function of this mod is to clear misplaced trees aroundcoastlines. It has a range of action of around 50 m; this mean treesup to 25 m into the sea and up to 25 m inland are removed. It does notremove photogrammetry or photogrammetry trees. The mod has now improved further; we can now not only clear thetrees but clearing while shaping the trees around coastlines as wehave improved the precision of the areas this mod interactswith. Coastlines now show at their best with nicely naturally shapedvegetation; sloping and precisely shaped on cliffs or beaches;changing coastlines flights views to a far more credible sight. /images/notams/notams21/icel1227.jpgCovers the whole of Iceland. High resolution data has been used to shapeIceland in MSFS to a resolution of 7 m. All major airports in the countryare protected by an exclude area to block the new terrain creating bumps onaprons and runways, to ensure compatibility with default airports. This package adds elevation points to the terrain by building a moredetailed mesh. Each place where the lines intersect has a specified altitudeand from this data the simulator draws all mountains, hills and valleys thatyou see. This is a highly detailed scenery adjustment of MSFS graphicsettings for best display results and performance might be required. Keflavik Int'l AirportPublisher: TaimodelsReview Author: Paul MortSuggested Price: $20.00/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.png /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-03.jpg /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-04.jpgHello fellow flight simulatorenthusiasts and welcome to my first review since coming out ofhospital. In this article I will be giving my thoughts on Taimodels -Keflavik International Airport (BIKF) for X-Plane 11. My last sceneryreview was set in the tropical climate of the Amazon, so this reviewwas quite a departure. IntroductionKeflavik Airport, also known as Reykjavik-Keflavik Airport, is thelargest airport in Iceland and the country's main hub forinternational transportation. The airport is 1.7 nautical miles westof Keflavik and 50 km southwest of Reykjavik. The main carrier atKeflavik is Icelandair, which has the airport as its main hub. /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-05.jpg /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-06.jpg /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-01.jpg /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-02.jpgAirport WalkaboutAs many of you who read my reviews know, one of the first things Ilike to do is have a walk around the airport looking at all the smalldetails. With Keflavik I started my tour at the main attraction, thatbeing the main terminal building. The terminal itself is named afterLeifur Eiriksson, a Norse explorer, and was opened in 1987. Justoutside the terminal is the Jet Nest sculpture. This has beenmodelled in full 3D, and it was nice to see it included in thescenery. It's one of those details that could have easily been leftout, so well done to the developers for including it. Going back to the terminal, and I was quite impressed with theamount of detail on offer. The structure is not your normal affairand is quite intricate in places. It's roughly "T" in shape, with thegates situated on the bottom left and right. Being an amateur 3Dmodeller myself, I would definitely have found it a challenge tocreate! Moving on to the textures of the terminal, and this was where Istarted to find a few problems. Unlike many sceneries I have used andreviewed in the past, I was disappointed to see that there was noweathering to be seen in any of the textures. Iceland's climate canbe quite unforgiving at times, so a structure exposed to the elementswould look far from pristine. Due to this, I felt the terminal lackedauthenticity, which was a shame considering the quality of themodelling. Had the developers added some weathering to age the lookof the building, it would have helped it greatly, but sadly none waspresent. /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-07.jpg /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-08.jpg /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-09.jpg /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-10.jpgThe same problem arose with the concrete and asphalt groundtextures situated around the airport. They were all nicely placed, itwas just a shame they looked so artificial. Yes, there was someweathering to be seen, but unfortunately, the way they had beencreated looked unrealistic. Moving on to the airport car parks, and I was really pleased to seethat the developers had used large numbers of 3D vehicles to populatethem. Many of you will know that one of my pet hates is ortho imageryof car parks without vehicles, so this got my nod of approval. Ortho imagery around the airport for the most part is donereasonably well, just don't get too close as it breaks down quitequickly. As you move outwards, you'll find numerous hangars and maintenancefacilities dotted around the airport. Whilst relatively accurate interms of placement, I was disappointed to see that many of them (ifnot the majority), were standard X-Plane objects. Whilst this nodoubt helps with performance (more on that later), it was a shame theyweren't custom made. /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-11.jpg /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-12.jpgAn airport wouldn't be complete without aircraft, so I was pleasedto see there were models for the airlines normally seen at Keflavik. These included the likes of airBaltic, Icelandair, Air Canada andBritish Airways, to name just a few. Having these airlines present, really helped bring the airport to life and was great to see. Night LightingNight lighting at Keflavik was a bit of a mixed bag. Whilst themain terminal building did employ night lighting effects, I found itto be quite flat, especially the large glass areas situated on theroof and sides of the terminal. The shop windows at ground levelfared better but were too dim in my opinion. However, the runway andtaxiway lights were excellent, and I had no problems at all navigatingmy way around the airport. PerformanceUnlike many X-Plane users, my PC is not cutting edge, so I waspleased to see that Keflavik ran without issues on my computer.Having only a 4 GB graphics card means I have to think about my graphicsettings, but even when I pushed them up to high, the scenery stillworked flawlessly. /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-13.jpg /images/reviews/taikefla/t/taimodels-keflavik-14.jpgConclusionAs mentioned above, there are parts of this scenery which I reallyliked, such as the modelling of the main terminal building, the JetNest sculpture and the realistic airline traffic situated around theairport. Unfortunately, a lack of custom objects away from the mainterminal and texturing issues let the scenery down. These are allareas however which I feel the developer can improve on, and if theydid, then it would move the scenery on to another level. As itstands, this is probably one of the best sceneries for X-Plane ofKeflavik, so if you can live with the issues mentioned, then I thinkyou would enjoy it. /images/reviews/taikefla/title3.jpgHope you found this review informative. After over three hours of flying in real time, I finally arrived to Iceland and what a magical moment it was when cliffs started to emerge behind the clouds! This is one of those games that truly make you feel that you have travelled somewhere. I picked my destination (Breiddalsvik) randomly from google, thought this small landingstrip right next to water might be fun place to land. Now I want so badly to travel to there for real. Or anywhere in Iceland :)

/images/notams/notams20/mkst0306/mk-studios-05.jpgSay hello to Akureyri (BIAR). The airport with one of the mostdemanding approaches in the Europe. It will be included in Keflavikpackage at no additional cost as a present from us. Runway 01 with 5.3° GS path, or runway 19 with 3.45° GSboth with offset. The runway length is 2400 m which allows you to go there with bothturboprops and jets. Since Keflavik is known for its difficultweather conditions it may be a great alternate airport. /images/notams/notams20/mkst0306/mk-studios-04.jpg /images/notams/notams20/mkst0306/mk-studios-03.jpg /images/notams/notams20/mkst0306/mk-studios-02.jpg /images/notams/notams20/mkst0306/mk-studios-01.jpgSource
