Pearson International Airport, corporately branded asToronto Pearson International Airport, is an international airportthat serves the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada as well as theGreater Toronto Area and the surrounding Golden Horseshoe region. Pearson Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Canada. In2017, it handled 47,130,358 passengers and 465,342 aircraft movements,making it the world's 30th-busiest airport by total passenger traffic,22nd-busiest airport by international passenger traffic, and15th-busiest airport by flights. Pearson is also the 2nd-busiestairport by international passenger traffic in North America, thebusiest being John F. As I ventured around Global Art's CYYZ for the firsttime, I was pleased to see that there were none. For me this was amajor plus, as most third party sceneries will have small issues hereand there; i.e. flickering textures or ground traffic bouncing up anddown. The mesh included in the installation of CYYZ is perfect andenables the numerous 3D objects to run with the mesh, so undergroundtunnels and elevation changes are very accurate. This is great tosee, as this adds so much detail to the scenery. Note: If you happen to use Ortho4XP, the mesh will not workstraight out of the box, so to fix this you will have to fiddle aroundin Ortho4XP's mesh settings. With this done, the mesh will work greatwith your orthophotos and looks amazing! /images/reviews/pearson/t/Global-Art-Pearson-Airport05.jpg /images/reviews/pearson/t/Global-Art-Pearson-Airport07.jpgNext I turned my attention to the ground textures. Again, as withthe mesh, I was pleased to see that the included orthophotos, runwaytextures, taxiway textures, and surrounding areas were all very nicelymodelled, and resembled the real life airport to a very highstandard. Looking around the airport, I noticed the taxi lines were not ascrisp or as detailed as most freeware sceneries we X-Plane users areused to, which was a bit of a disappointment. The taxi lines seemedto be "dull" and a little blurry compared to the quality of the restof the ground textures. These (if I'm honest), resembled the defaultofferings that ship with X-Plane (not something you would expect in apayware scenery). On the other hand, the gate numbers on the groundare of very good quality, and extremely clear. Overall, the groundtextures are what you would expect from a high quality scenery; inother words, not HD. /images/reviews/pearson/t/Global-Art-Pearson-Airport08.jpg /images/reviews/pearson/t/Global-Art-Pearson-Airport09.jpgAfter taking a look at the ground textures, I then looked at themodelling quality of the buildings. Here I was most impressed, andhave to say that Global Art did a great job at attempting to get everysingle building on the premises of CYYZ into their scenery. This wasreally nice to see, as every little building, shed, and ground vehiclehas been placed with great accuracy. You really get the feeling ofbeing on CYYZ's ramp; which is what it's all about! In contrast to earlier, the textures here were of good quality, asnothing was blurry or faded. This level of detail does unfortunately(at least on my system), take a bit of a hit on frame rates, but it'sgreat to see the detail the developers have put into the texturing.One thing I was disappointed about though, was that there were noambient occlusion or normal maps. I found that some areas where toolight when they should've been dark, as well as a few reflectionswhich were not enriched with normal maps. This slightly takes awayfrom the realism, but is made up by the fact that all the textures areHD quality. Building object quality is also of a very high standard;stairs, gates, plus many other small details, especially on theterminal building, have all been modelled to perfection. This is thekind of eye candy that X-Plane users like myself crave for! /images/reviews/pearson/t/Global-Art-Pearson-Airport06.jpgX-Plane 11 has one of the best lighting engines of any flightsimulator, so I was itching to see what Global Art had done with it.For the record; I have flown into CYYZ at night many times in thepast, and have to say that the developers have replicated the effectin X-Plane 11 to almost perfection! Night lighting is both consistentand faithful, and when landing, not only can you see the accuratelyplaced ground lights zip past you, but you can see the haze of thecity lights in the distance - well done Global Art! With my assessment of the main scenery almost at an end, I tooksome time to fiddle around with the "Parked Aircraft At Gates" option,as I didn't like the static aircraft parked at the gates. In truth,this option did very little to the scenery, and I was disappointed tosee that Global Art did not include any custom static aircraft(X-Plane's "gates and aircraft placement" feature was used instead).This means that if you have OpenSceneryX installed, you will see thelow quality OpenSceneryX static aircraft. For me personally, this washighly disappointing, as most X-Plane users have OpenSceneryXinstalled; due in part because so many 3rd party sceneries rely on it.I really hope this issue is addressed and fixed in the future;however, it did make me laugh to see an Air Canada ATR-72 in the1990's paint scheme! /images/reviews/pearson/t/Global-Art-Pearson-Airport10.jpg /images/reviews/pearson/t/Global-Art-Pearson-Airport11.jpgOverall, even with the minor issues encountered, CYYZ is a highlyatmospheric scenery and one which I would almost certainly recommend100%. Global Arts rendition of CYYZ is of high quality and has manyfeatures that will impress even the most critical of X-Plane users.Ground textures are great, and night lighting is as close as you canget in 2018. The included 3D objects are wonderfully modelled, andall the buildings are really well rendered.
