/images/notams/notams22/aoa0809.jpgIt has been a long busy 16 months for AOA Simulations but we arefinally approaching the point where we can see the approach strobelights through the fog of our long T-6A Texan II developmenteffort. The project turned into more of a study level aircraft simulationthan any of our other projects and will set a new minimum standard forour efforts going forward. We still have some 3D details to polish, to hunt for bugs thatcould remain in the avionics code and especially to test, test andtest again. A lot of documentation work is in progress (thanks to SteveDeBauche) to allow you to quickly master the aircraft. We are alsoeager to discover and test the FMOD package developed bySimAccoustics. Now it's time to tell you about another project, highly anticipatedby a large part of the community. I am of course referring to our newV-22 Osprey. Let me reassure you: the project is not dead. It was simply on holddue to lack of human resources. When we started to work on the textures, we unfortunately had torealize that our 3D model had some big mistakes. The shape of theflaps was incorrect, the leading and trailing edges of the wings werenot parallel, the tail was too short, the cargo doors were notrectangular. The wing folding animation caused collisions with therest of the fuselage. It was a total no go for us! So we decided to rework the 3D model before going any further. Itwill certainly continue to evolve in the coming weeks. We have also created a new library of generic and reusable digitalgauges for the Texan II. This library will greatly benefit the V-22project. /images/notams/notams22/aoa0622.jpgFirst day of summer is here! Yippee!!! Finally there is some sun inwestern Washington. Meanwhile, in Belgium, they have never seen such awarm and sunny June. We are working hard on the T-6A avionics which is progressing verywell. In parallel, the 3D model of the V-22 is constantly beingimproved to match the real thing. The canopy closing and securing process is now exactly like in thereal airplane, including the complex canopy's latch mechanism. All instruments, control panels, and displays in both cockpits arelighted for operation during night or reduced light conditions. Twokneeboard lights have been added on the front of each cockpit'sinstrument glare shield. We are now working on the consolidated Environmental Control PanelLUA script with all the operating logic for the air conditioning;bleed air, pressurization and oxygen systems. Yes, it's true, you need to purchase plenty of expensive add-ons ifyou want to approximate that quality in X-Plane. But X-Plane is not only a general public flight simulator, it'salso an incredible engineering tool. Since a long time, AOASimulations collaborates to research projects with various actors fromthe private and academic sectors, in domains such as aircraft anddrone development, data visualization or flight training. Withoutforgetting all the MacOS and Linux addicts all around here. So, even if we do some experiment on other platforms, we will staycommitted to X-Plane, because we grew with that platform!
