Held across two locations near Houston’s Hobby Airport(HOU), the 2023 event will offer flight simulation fans the chance tointeract with developers, try out the latest hardware, hear the latestdevelopments, and meet fellow sim enthusiasts. As in previous years, event seminars will be livestreamed foronline-only attendees to participate from anywhere. Initial 2023 Event ScheduleThe three-day 2023 event schedule offers a jam-packed weekendthat’s perfect for avgeeks and flight simmers from around theworld. The event kicks off on Friday, June 23 with a series ofseminars and announcements from some of simulation’s biggestdevelopers. Later on Friday, registered attendees are invited to joina welcome reception and social event featuring light fare and a freedrink. Friday seminars and the welcome reception take place at theDoubleTree Houston Hobby. On Saturday and Sunday, the event shifts to the Lone Star FlightMuseum, a 130,000 sq. ft. air-conditioned museum located on EllingtonAirport (EFD), about a 15-minute drive from the DoubleTree and HobbyAirport. Nestled amongst warbirds, fighter jets, and drones, attendeeswill find hands-on flight simulation exhibits where they can try thelatest in flight simulation software and hardware. Speaker rooms willfeature how-to seminars and educational discussions throughout theweekend. Admission to the museum is included with FlightSimExporegistration. The facility hosts over 20 aircraft on static display, the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame, Redbird flight simulators (includingcertified devices), and much more. Attendees will be able to bookloggable flight time with a Certificated Flight Instructor oncertified simulators and purchase rides in the museum’s vintageaircraft throughout the weekend. Travel DetailsAs in previous years, FlightSimExpo has negotiated significantlydiscounted hotel rooms for attendees. This year, rooms are availableat two locations. Rooms at DoubleTree Houston Hobby—also the host ofall scheduled Friday events—are available for $109 pernight. Attendees can also stay at the nearby Houston Marriott South atHobby Airport for $89 per night. Bookings made at these special FlightSimExpo rates also includefree transportation to/from Hobby Airport, parking, morning coffee, and more. All quoted rates exclude taxes and are only available toattendees of FlightSimExpo. To book, visitflightsimexpo.com/travel. "Reserve your room now," says Phil Coyle, co-founder of FSA. "Thediscounted rates offer as much as $100 off list prices on hotelwebsites and we expect they will sell out very quickly! LAS VEGAS - April 11, 2020 - The FlightSimExpo co-foundersannounced via a community livestream today that the 2020 in-personevent has been canceled. Originally scheduled for June 12-14, 2020 atTropicana Las Vegas, FlightSimExpo expected more than 2,000 attendeesand had confirmed almost 50 exhibitors. "In making this announcement, we share the disappointment of thesimulation community," said Evan Reiter, co-founder ofFlightSimExpo. "For the past several weeks, it has become increasinglyevident that delivering the event the community expects is notpossible. During this time, we have tried to be transparent with ourpartners and attendees while preserving the future sustainability ofthe conference. Although we'll miss everyone this year, we lookforward to using the additional planning time to make 2021 bigger andbetter than ever." Through emails, social media, and surveys, the simulation communityplayed an integral role in determining the future of the event. In aMarch 24 survey, 46% of respondents indicated their preference was tocancel the 2020 event and focus on 2021. By comparison, 31% favoredwaiting until closer to the event to decide, while 23% would have beeninterested in seeing the event run later in the year. While communityengagement was taking place, organizers also focused their efforts onnegotiating with vendors and suppliers to ensure the show could go onin the future. "We have always felt the importance of being community-driven in our decision-making," said event co-founder Phil Coyle. "We are proud to have taken the time to make and announce a decision that is aligned with feedback from our attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors, and that supports the event in the future. The show will go on...in 2021." Registered attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors should check theiremail for information regarding refunds or credits on registrationfees. Attendees are also able to cancel their hotel rooms withTropicana Las Vegas at no charge, up to 48 hours prior tocheck-in. 24. /images/notams/notams18/pmdg0609/pmdg-logo.jpgAt FlightSimExpo PMDG made a greatly anticipated anouncement about anew product intended to change the flightsim world environment. "Global Flight Operations" will provide a flightsim world that is persistant.Aircraft within the world will have a history of use, repair, damage, etc.and the plane you fly will reflect that history. /images/notams/notams18/pmdg0609/pmdg-2.jpgThe PMDG Operations Center will provide a realistic ACARS system much likethe real world uses. You'd start by logging into this system and would Pick a planePick your liveryPick your simPick your weather sourceOnce you check the plane out it becomes "yours" and no one else can use itwith the system until you are done with it. During your flight you would use ACARS just like real planes do both toget information and to report your status. On arrival, the system wouldfind a gate appropriate to your aircraft and direct you there. The actual ACARS radio network has been modeled so you must be withinthe service volume to get service. Satellite and ground service ismodeled. /images/notams/notams18/pmdg0609/pmdg-1.jpgVirtual airlines can have their own environment, with data fortheir users only. After the flight, you have options: Check in the airplaneForget the whole thingRedoThere are three tiers of connectivity. The system can thus handle mostaircraft, with features varying. Aircraft with built-in FMS get morefeatures. It sounds like this is still in alpha development and even more featuresare planned. PMDG spokesman Robert Randazzo reports this concept has been years in themaking. Once available, it will offer a whole new level of realism tosimulated flight. PMDG www.precisionmanuals.com
