I'm back with yetanother product review today, with Aerosoft's Trondheim Vaernesairport (ENVA) for MSFS. I'm very excited to give this scenery a review andI'd like to thank my good friend Dom Smith over at FlightSim.Com forproviding me with this scenery. The AirportSo, in terms of the airport itself, Trondheim-Vaernes InternationalAirport is the 4th largest airport in Norway, with around 4.4 millionpassengers per year give or take. It's located in a gorgeous areawhich is also home to the oldest preserved stone building in Norway -the Vaernes Church. SAS, or Scandinavian Airlines System are frequently seen at theairport, with regular trips between Trondheim and Oslo. /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-05.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-06.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-07.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-08.jpgFeatures, Graphics And ModellingWhen I first got my hands on Trondheim, I knew straight away that Iwanted to see the airport during the winter, at its best, covered insnow. I guess I'm still a big kid deep down inside and love the ideaof the gorgeous surrounding scenery of Norway blanketed in snow. I canjust imagine coming down onto the runway on an exciting Christmas tripwith the family! Right from the start I was really impressed with what this sceneryhad to offer. From the airport itself to the surrounding areas -everything seemed to be really well put together, and the textures andmaterials looked great, no matter what time of day (or night) youhappened to be flying. One thing I did notice however, was that when it's snowing outside,it also snows inside the terminal building and the surfaces seem toalso get covered. This isn't so much of an issue if you don't intendon exploring the otherwise brilliant interior of the terminalbuildings, but it's a detail that unfortunately is missing, whetherthat be due to sim limitations or a simple lack of attention to thatparticular detail. However, I don't really rate this as extremelyimportant, and I certainly wouldn't let it put you off buying thescenery. /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-09.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-10.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-11.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-12.jpgSpeaking of the above-mentioned interior of the terminal buildings,I was extremely happy to see the level of detail the developer hasgone into here. You can see there are a range of different detailssuch as people sitting around waiting for their flights, screensshowing different departures and arrivals, and other cool details suchas accurate signage, railings and doorways - all of which seem reallywell modelled. The runway and taxiway signage is great and stands out well even indull conditions, and everything is literally brought to life at dusk, early morning, or during the night with the tremendous amount ofdynamic lighting that is included around the airport. This is veryimportant in low visibility where you rely on the signage more thanever, and I was able to make it to and from the runway quite easilyjust by following the signs. /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-13.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-14.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-15.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-16.jpg Official Features ListFrom Aerosoft, we can see the official features list includes: Includes a highly accurate recreation of Trondheim Airport, VaernesHighly detailed models of airport terminal, buildings and other facilitiesPhoto-realistic building and ground texturesAccurate taxiway, apron and stands layoutDensely placed ground equipment and ramp clutter objectsAccurate terrain and runway profileTerminal interior includedInteriors included for the VFK (aeroclub), Helitrans and Rely hangarsCustom aerial image covering the airport and its vicinityLandmark buildings and bridges in the vicinity of the airportCustom taxiway lighting effects, Custom runway guard lightingApproach and runway lights adapted to match real world counterpartRealistic night time dynamic lightingCustom windsock model /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-17.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-18.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-19.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-20.jpgPerformanceWhen it came to performance, I am happy to report that Iexperienced smooth sessions in the FlyByWire A320, with around 35 - 50FPS being the norm, depending on weather and traffic. I did noticesome stuttering when initially loading the scenery, but this soonpassed after a few moments of letting the sim load everything in. When approaching the airport, I did notice the odd bit of lag orstutter, but this wasn't anything significant enough to put me off,and I still really enjoyed flying into and out of the sceneryitself. This could quite easily be a sim-related issue, and notnecessarily a scenery-related one. Night LightingAs I touched upon earlier in the review, I was very impressed withthe night lighting of this scenery. The dynamic lighting looks trulyremarkable against the beautiful Norwegian scenery the airport sitsin. Even the terminal buildings are very well lit inside and out, andI was happy to see the finer details such as reflections in the watercoming off the runway and taxiway lights. /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-21.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-22.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-23.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-24.jpgAt night, you can expect minimal disruption when navigating aroundthe airport or arriving on the runway, as the taxiway signage is bothclear and well-lit. Even the lights and signs inside the terminal building include finedetails. For example, the arrival and departure boards are correctlylit, as are the signs pointing passengers to their respectivegates. Also, the floor textures appear to be well designed to thepoint that they correctly reflect the lights above and allow for amore natural indoor appearance. AccuracyAs far as accuracy goes, I was really impressed. Everythingappeared to be correct when compared next to Google or Bing Maps, andI can't see any significant differences that would have a major impacton immersion or enjoyment. The runway lights seem to be in the right place, as do the signsand taxiway markings, and I noticed the terminal buildings and gates /stands all seem to be pretty accurate to their real-life counterparts. /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-25.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-26.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-27.jpg /images/reviews/trondhei/t/Aerosoft-Trondheim-28.jpgI strongly agree with Aerosoft's statement that their scenery is ahighly accurate recreation of Trondheim Airport. The features includedreally do allow it to be as accurate as possible to its real-lifecounterpart. Price And Final VerdictI have to say this is probably one of the best scenery products Ihave reviewed - mainly because of the geographical location of Norwayitself. I have also wanted to visit Norway in real life in the winterto see its gorgeous scenery around the festive season, and now, I'mable to experience it virtually with the beauty of this scenery inMicrosoft Flight Simulator. The scenery has all the bells and whistles of a beautiful, highlyaccurate product, at a very reasonable price of $14.99 (at time ofwriting), which equates to around £10.81. /images/reviews/trondhei/title3.jpgI hope you enjoyed reading this review of Aerosoft - AirportTrondheim-Vaernes for MSFS, a scenery I highly recommend!
