It is only one mile east of the St AgnesHeritage Coastline, and is around eight miles south-west of Newquay, apopular UK holiday destination. Its 5km long beach looks out to theAtlantic Ocean. For those of you who are interested in general trivia,it is also the area in which the popular television series 'Poldark'is based. Perranporth Airfield (EGTP) itself is located at Cligga Head, animpressive plateau overlooking the Celtic Sea. Its elevation is 330 feetabove sea level. Originally built during the second world war as anRAF fighter station, RAF Perranporth became operational in April 1941and was used by twenty-one different squadrons flying Spitfires. Fiveyears later, it was decommissioned. /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-05.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-06.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-07.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-08.jpgNo longer needed as part of Britain's defences, today it is run byPerranporth Flying Club Ltd., and serves as a civil airfield. However, evidence of its past still exists in the form of air-raid shelters, bunkers and revetments. Indeed, Spitfire revetments can still be usedto secure aircraft. In addition to the airfield, Perranporth has muchmore to offer, including PPL training, parachute training, and landyachting. Download And InstallAs with any add-on, before you can enjoy this scenery you will needto download, extract and install it. The download, available from theFlightSim.Com Store, comes in at just over 160 MB and is verystraightforward to install. Once extracted and run, you are then askedto insert your own unique serial number. The scenery then proceeds toautomatically install into your "Community" folder, after which youare ready to go. /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-09.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-10.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-11.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-12.jpgDocumentationFor those of you who hate to read manuals and instructions (comeon, you know who you are!), fear not. The documentation included withthis download only consists of a modest 16-page PDF manual. Even forthe most vehement in their avoidance of seemingly such needlessthings, this is quite manageable and invitingly pain-free. Should youwish to read it, the manual can be found in the main scenery folderand whilst it is brief (only a few of the pages are in English), itgets the job done and is more than adequate. WalkaboutFrom a bird's eye view, this coastal airfield scenery has a varietyof detail on offer. Dotted around the runway itself one sees theexpected buildings associated with most airports of this size - amaintenance hangar in addition to others, an airport tower, viewingpoints via an included parachute club, parked vehicular traffic andpeople, as well as refuelling points. You will also see various roadtracks, albeit not accurately drawn but represented nonetheless, whichare presumably part of a motorcycle training school located on thesite. Conducive to its close vicinity to one of the many popular UKholiday destinations, they have even included the likes of a smallhotel as well as a caravan park. /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-13.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-14.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-15.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-16.jpgIt is nice to see that Aerosoft have included references to theairfield's history, with the Spitfire memorial and the raisedtell-tale signs of bunkers and shelters. This 'behind-the-scenes'story adds to the scenery's appeal, particularly if you enjoy knowingthe history of the places in which you are flying (or taking offfrom!). On the ground there is plenty to hold one's attention too. Swing bythe maintenance hangar and you will see two men working on a smallCessna. The aircraft itself is not particularly well modelled but thenagain, it does not need to be as that is only a small part of a biggerpicture; the star attraction is the airfield taken as a whole. Foradded life, you will find a grandfather and his daughter enjoying theviews of the runway from a picnic bench. Aside from the added life, there is the small but important inclusion of 'clutter' - a bicyclewaiting for its owner, cars parked in a car park, a lone aircraftsitting on tarmac, a few caravans in places and more cars, picnictables and people dotted around. /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-17.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-18.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-19.jpg /images/reviews/perranpo/t/aerosoft-perranporth-20.jpgConclusionIf you like the hustle and bustle, and the close attention todetail, of busy airports, Perranporth is not for you, but with a pricetag of just $9.99 you cannot expect a huge amount from thisscenery. Indeed, a 'quieter' airfield here holds more truth to itsnature than would a busy one filled with people and clutter. However, what you do get for the price is worth the money. Everything ofsignificance around the airport has been included, and it has beenbrought to hushed life by scattered objects and people in and aroundthe airfield. Can Aerosoft improve on it? Sure they can. A little more attentionto detail, such as the refined modelling of larger objects such as theCessna mentioned earlier, could be addressed but then you sacrifice onprice and possibly performance. If you like the low price of thisscenery you must make the sacrifice somewhere else. But despite minorblemishes, this is an otherwise well-modelled and true-naturedscenery, and one that deserves consideration, particularly for theprice they are asking. In a nutshell, don't expect a work of art with 100% accuraterepresentation. Keep your expectations on a par with the price youhave paid and you cannot go wrong. /images/reviews/perranpo/title3.jpgFelicity Smith Purchase Aerosoft - Airfield Perranporth For MSFS 2020

The town's small airfield is locatedabout 2.8 km southwest of Perranporth and dates back to World WarII. Experience breathtaking approaches either over the land side orover the steep cliffs that are typical for this region. The included animations make the airfield in Microsoft FlightSimulator look much livelier and more varied.
