Thread: should a printer stay always ON or should it be ON only when used?

Default should a printer stay always ON or should it be ON only when used?

I have big printers in the office that are always "on", day and night.
Then I have a printer at home (prints 7.5x11, HP 3250 or something) that I turn "on" only when I use it.
The question: can I have my home printer "on" all the time also?
What happens when a printer is "on" all the time?

    and:
should a printer stay always "on" or should it be "on" only when used?

Default RE: should a printer stay always ON or should it be ON only when used?

Most recent printers, and computers ingeneral, are pretty good at going into a sleep mode that uses virtually no power. Usually the only thing drawing power in sleep mode is the LED to indicate that it is actually on. When it receives a signal to print, it will wake up, print and go back sleep afterwards.
