Frost on the CRJ in Detroit

SH23

Recommended Posts

Did an early morning jaunt from KPHL to DTW.... Temps reached -68 at altitude...

This is what the plane looked like after returning to the ground.

Frost on the nose, top of fuselage and engines... Very cool depiction...

Good shots.

Having said that, they bring me nightmares! I can't begin to estimate the hours I've spent in the cabin waiting to be de-iced at DTW. Only to be de-iced again because the lineup for clearance and takeoff was so slow!!

I finally started driving to and from Detroit in the winter for that very reason. And usually got home to Kentucky faster than if I'd flown! In fact if you consider check-in at SDF, waiting for baggage at DTW, then renting a car, and then driving from the airport I could almost drive to Detroit as fast as it took to fly, even in good weather.

Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
