How to start a flight with the engine off

Asked this on my search engine, most answers are for FSX. One suggestion was to start your flight from a gate instead of a runway.

Not all places have a choice other than a runway.

I have logitech's switch panel but when the engines are already running, using my switch panel sometimes causes problems.

If I turn everything off from the planes panel and then restart everything from my panel it works fine. It would be simpler to just have the engines off when I set up a flight.

I only fly small single engine planes, mostly bush planes, so they are simple to start.

 

Is there a choice somewhere in MSFS 2020 where you can click on " Start every flight with engines cold"?

the advice was good never start on a runway in multiplayer....... I would guess because you're starting on a runway the plane is already running,... I never had that issue as I never start on a runway...... Edited November 8, 2022 by daspinall

I just start just off the runway in the grass, or on the parking but not on a parking spot.

How do you set it up to be in the grass?

When I pick a starting airport, it seems to only offer runways and which end of the runway you want to start from.

Click on some grass and a Custom Pin should appear. Set it as Departure.

Finally solved this thanks to the flightsim community.

 

If the airport or airstrip doesn't show anything but a runway to start from, zoom in on the airport and you should see some small dots, pick one and you will start from where that dot is with the engine shut down. Great to find out how to do this/

Those dots represent gates/parking spots.

You can also click on the drop-down menu above the world map, where it says "Runway 6" or whatever, and all the parking spots and other runways are listed and can be selected there without having to zoom in on the map.
