How To Stop Porpo sing

Recommended Posts

I'm having a problem getting my planes to climb out smoothly upon departing an airport. I'm currently flying the B-787, but it also occurs with other aircraft.

After take-off, I activate LNAV, with no problem. But, activating the auto pilot causes the plane to begin porposing up and down as it heads for the flight plan route on the screen...The flight needs the auto pilot on to promptly intercept and continue on the flight route...The porposing continues for awhile, but eventually seems to go away. It seems to be connected to turning the AP on. Turning off the AP seems to stop the up-and-down motion, but the plane take much longer to intercept the flight route on the screen...

There are some former Forum posts on "porposing aircraft," but not much offered to stop it...

Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone know a way to stop it?...All suggestions and ideas greatly welcomed...

Check the weight and balance before starting a flight, the CofG must be within the fore and aft limits.

You might want to check the parameters you’re using to climb to your altitude. If you are setting a climb as 3,000 feet per minute for example, that might only work to a certain altitude and the plane can’t maintain that rate so the nose will drop until the airspeed increases and it begins climbing again.

If that is the problem, then just use the FLC mode so you can set a speed for the climb and it will adjust the rate of climb for you.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions...The one that seems to have stopped the porposing is using the FLC for climb outs. I didn't realize how useful that was...

But, on a different and continuing problem, I'm still getting an occasional electrical failure (all gauges stop working), usually during an approach. The overhead Electrical panel shows all switches ON, but no power is reaching the cockpit gauges. And. the APU does not function...Has anyone else experienced this and know how to correct it?...All help much appreciated...
