Courchevel in winter

AS I often do, I am simulating a trip that was featured in either the AOPA magazine or in this case Flying Magazine.

We're in Courchevel at LFLJ. The sim shows the runway as 5-23 but according to Flying it's now 4-22. Airport elevations run from 4,500' to 8,000'. The take off is on 5 rolling down hill, landing is on 23 rolling uphill. Though it didn't appear the runway was simulated as steeply as described, it was definitely noticeable,

What I found most challenging was getting up from and back down to the runway end with over 10,000' alps almost all around. You definitely have to follow the valleys both departing and arriving!! And yes, a better climber such as a French D-140 would have been much easier for the climb out part!!

This flight wore me out flying a sim. And yes, I certainly didn't nail the first landing attempt!! I was way too high!! Though that did help a bunch on my turn to go around. RW I'm sure it's a flight to remember, even as a passenger!!:eek:

Having said that, according to Flying, an EASA issued mountain rating as well as additional training is required for Courchevel. Typical training cost, if you already have lots of other ratings and do well in training is estimated at about 6,000 Euros or $6,900 +- depending on the exchange rate that day.

I've done Paro and found it to be quite the challenge. However I don't recall doing Lukla. thanks for the suggestion!;)
