Don't be afraid of anything, Stuart. The update is 101% optional. Better to wait until the dust settles and learn from the experiences of others. Its too early to know enough from just a few people's experiences for different systems will produce different results.

John above is right, what works for one doesn't for another, seen it lots of times, you see comments like: "Works OK for me," "I have it installed, no problems."

Then you get: "Installed it and got an error," or "After I installed this now getting CTD."

It is hit and miss, do you take a gamble or not?

Just moved my FS9 of 450 GB to a new notebook. I updated it to Windows 11, FS runs ok like before without any issue. The only thing which hurts me, is the imposibility to get taskbar and icons smaller. It looks like it would run the notebook with a resolution of 800 x 600! Hopefully that would once be modified and updated.

Am back baby! (Well at least a little bit! Re #17 29 Oct 21) Apologies for posting this in a Win11 thread. Isn't YouTube wonderful. Studied quite a few websites and forums, and found that there's such a very simple, easy workaround to the WinXP Activation issue when you move a hard drive to a new mainboard. Here's a good British video

. It floats my boat, or flys my plane, for my simple needs I simply repeat the procedure monthly in the first instance, only takes a minute, 12x/yr. Just fired up Win2000 and enjoying the classic Cessna takeoff from Meigs Field, Chicago. When I tried to fire up FS2002 it said there was a missing .bgl file, and to reinstall FS02. I can do that, have the original CDs.

What joy, after a few months of no simming, can now get 'back in the saddle.'

Hello to All Folks,

I just installed downloading from my old Windows 10 to upgrade Windows 11 Sunday night while I go to bed. Monday morning, I woke up to see if works. I see a little bit changed new features on Wins 11. A few programs don't work Explorer folder (not Windows). It doesn't work. I deleted and new download Explorer files. It works it was very similar to the application last time. I struggled with the DXTBMP program. I was a little confused and I found out the format feature was not the same old as Wins 10. I figured and it works saved BMP and resized. It worked. Pheww. Then I ran ADE FS2004 it works fine. I ran the FS2004 flight simulator without a glitch. Horray! All is good. I hope never to stop running FS2004 next round Windows 12! Please DON'T STOP it. LOL Have a nice Holiday and be safe be well.

I have a PC and 2 laptops, none of them meet the required specs for me to install W11, I have W10 on them all but the CPU's are not right, I don't have TPM2. I looked in the BIOS to enable it but couldn't see it on my PC, didn't bother with the laptops.

Also I had to download the Health Check for it to tell me, why can't it scan you online rather than download an app?

I skimmed through the responses here in this thread and no one mentioned a remedy.

First and foremost, I highly recommend one to deploy Win 11 (if possible) with NTLite. NOt only can you strip a lot of crap out of the install, but you can customize it. Then to test, use Ventoy to launch the ISO from a USB stick. This will allow you to run OS in a live environment. WintoUSB or Rufus can be used to installing.

Now the best part is that not only can NTLite customize your install, but remove the TPM requirement component.

(And in typical Xenforo crap fashion, I can't enlarge the screen grabs).

Edit-

Also I had to download the Health Check for it to tell me, why can't it scan you online rather than download an app?

You don't want ANYTHING to scan via a web interface. It used to be that way via ActiveX which is bad business. Then there's web socket probing. I think how they do it now-a-days (like those game requirement PC compatibility checking spying websites) is through some JS (Java Script). Come to think of it, Dell's support page does this. I'll have to see the web console and find out how they're doing it. Doesn't work in my browser though. It's why you run Sandboxie for your browser. I customized my Sandboxie install for all my browsers.

Protip: Scan ALL downloads (even images) at VirusTotal. The general consensus is four hits and you toss, but it largely depends on what you got there, and if you know how to interpret the relations and what is provided. The U.S. Cyber Commend does provide unclassified signatures to VirusTotal. VirusTotal is a Google product.

How I utilize VirusTotal is by generating a SHA256 hash for the download and entering that at VirusTotal for a quick check so long as the file was already uploaded. If not, you'll have to upload the file yourself. The hash checking program I use is called HashTools. I also use their Voicebot. (I can now command Porn Hub to execute when ever I want via voice... HAHA J/K... I have a projector for that kind of thing. BAHAHA) Once HashTools is installed, just right click the download and generate the SHA256 hash. Copy/paste that string into VirusTotal for a result.

Anyway, to be concise, typical anti-virus software is absolute junk - and spying junk to say the least. I don't run any. Haven't for at least seven years. No infections, no hacker vermin wearing a black hoodie sporting a Time Warner owned Guy Fawkes mask.

Just when I thought my Windows 11 was working perfectly..

I did an update on my existing Windows 11 on Thursday morning, and now have the following issues..

No Taskbar, or Start button. Just an empty white strip, with that little up arrow that indicates startup stuff.

Default desktop picture, with only a few icons.

Windows key + I (to get to Settings) not working. Settings flashes on for a few seconds, then banishes.

My hard drive shows the correct free space, but my music, pics & video folders are empty.

Edge reverting to initial Edge setup on reboot.

So, I rolled back a few days, and Uninstalled the latest update, as well as checking file integrity etc.. Nothing..

I even tried the Windows Media tool.. It flashes, then also dissappears.

I tried to reinstall the media update from a USB, it finally worked, it did its thing, went through the installation process, then said 'Undoing changes to your PC', rebooted, and now I'm back to no Taskbar etc..

Any ideas? Maybe use the ISO?

Try the tips outlined in this video.

Just one reason why I hate updates for ANYTHING! OSs, firmware, IoT, even my damn cable box updates once a day. It's in large part one step forward, two steps back. I've been on the Internet long enough to know it happens all the damn time.

I don't use updates (have maybe four installed for hardware/software needs), and I use Windows 7! LOL No, I'm not somehow prone to being a victim of malware or hacking. Theoretically, yes. But I run a tight ship outside of the patch Tuesday God.

All sorted, & actually very simply.

All I did was to use the Media Tool again, & told it NOT to do initial updates. So It worked, sorted everything out & then did updates.

All perfectly back to normal, no losses or issues. Yippee!!

Yeah, there are many shell replacements, desktop replacements, custom login and boot screens, you name it. Back in my XP days I customized everything with stuff from deviantart. There are virtual desktops as well. These allow you to have one desktop full of porn icons, another full of hacking icons, and another for "work icons..." Just a quick key press and the desktop switches. LOL Two software providers I know that do this are dexpot and VirtuaWin.

I made this video 14 years ago! LOL

I just now marked it as not private and it says the video was uploaded today. Total crock on Google's part.

Here, turned it into a friggin' Gif. LOL

Come on now. You honestly think someone out there can't play FSX on a commodore 64? Pfffft, technology...

On the latest popup asking if I want to upgrade to W11 there was a part that said they are working on ironing out a few bugs.

Col.

It’s more than a few bugs. Appears old games and new hardware are not mixing well. Started under Win 10 and looks like Win 11 is taking it a step further. We’ll see what problems pop up on the forum over coming months. The unresolved gauges thread here might already be an interesting example. Waiting on a reply from OP to see if the issue falls in line with what I found elsewhere.
