SkySpirit 777 Air File Edit Question

Jarhead1971

Recommended Posts

Guys and Gals,

I'm not proficient at air file editing, though in CFS2 I have manipulated some portions of the air files.

I recently got my FS2004 Century of Flight working the way it should on my Windows 10X64 computer.

I am having a problem getting the SkySpirit "POSKY" 777-10 flying properly.

It is a tank to get off the runway and airborne even from a long runway at a major airport.

Once airborne, it is a beast to get up to cruising altitude.

Once at cruising altitude above 30k it cannot be made to fly faster than mach .64 even though specs from Boeing say .84 max cruising speed.

When I hit mach .66 it crashes to "overstressed" and the sim ends.

Where do I look in the air file and how do I correct the values to make it accurate to actual specs?

Thanks in advance!

Lee

If you would post a zip of the .air and aircraft.cfg (just those two files), I would be happy to take a look at it.

Please repost without the dot.txt. I think zip files attach under go advanced (they used to anyway!).

I tried to rename it, but it still retains the text file property.

I just deleted the .txt off of the end and I get what is shown in my screenshot. My chromebook can't open them because I don't have notepad.

It will not allow air nor zip files to be uploaded under advanced.

I did find one problem (I think) in the aircraft cfg file:

[Reference Speeds]

flaps_up_stall_speed=174.000

full_flaps_stall_speed=158.000

cruise_speed=485.00

max_indicated_speed=330.000000

max_mach=0.890020

How can the cruise speed be higher than the max indicated speed?

Yes, I know about flying at altitude and switching over to Mach vs IAS above 10k feet....

I am wondering if MS FS2004 recognizes 330 kts as max even above 10k when the aircraft is at mach .84?

In the .air file.

Check 316 Mmo=0.895

Check 1101 Vmo=345

Positive G limit=4000

Negative G Limit = 3000

I am downloading it now.

You can really ignore the above, that was not the problem.

I think I found the problem.

In the aircraft.cfg

edit to this.

max_pitch_velocity_lo_alt=2.000000

max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt=1.600000

max_pitch_velocity_lo_alt_breakpoint= 7000.000000

max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt_breakpoint=24000.000000

max_bank=30.000000

max_bank_acceleration=1.800000

max_bank_velocity=3.000000

Lee - I have a Boeing 777-300, not the ER class, but, here is the Weight & Balance weights on my aircraft which is quite a bit different than yours! You might want to go into the library and pull up some downloads for the 777-300ER, check their respective aircraft.cfg Weight & Balance and make a comparison to both yours and mine! Something looks way out of proportion on your weighting?? Worth a look see!!

[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]

max_gross_weight = 660000 // (pounds)

empty_weight = 347800 // (pounds)

reference_datum_position = 0, 0, 0 // (feet) distance from FlightSim Reference position: (1/4 chord, centerline, waterline)

empty_weight_CG_position = -12, 0, 0 %%%% Yours is 0,0,0 // (feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from specified datum

max_number_of_stations = 50

station_load.0 = "170.0, 86.0, -2.0, 0.0, Pilot" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)

station_load.1 = "170.0, 86.0, 2.0, 0.0, Co-Pilot" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)

station_load.2 = "850.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, Crew" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)

station_load.3 = "680.0, 52.0, 0.0, 0.0, First Class" // 850 Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)

station_load.4 = "1496.0, 11.0, 0.0, 0.0, Business Class" //1870 Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)

station_load.5 = "2992.0, -30.0, 0.0, 0.0, Coach 1-16" //3740 Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)

station_load.6 = "2040.0, -72.5, 0.0, 0.0, Coach 16-29" //2550 Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)

station_load.7 = "1600.0, 47.0, 0.0, -6.0, Forward Cargo" //2000 Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)

station_load.8 = "400.0, -67.0, 0.0, -6.0, Aft Cargo" // 500 Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)

;Moments of Inertia

empty_weight_pitch_MOI = 2000000 %%%% Yours is 41600000

empty_weight_roll_MOI = 5900000 %%%% Yours is 42000000

empty_weight_yaw_MOI = 8300000 %%%% Yours is 67500000

empty_weight_coupled_MOI= 0.0

Also, above the entry for

empty_weight_CG_position = -12, 0, 0 Yours is 0, 0, 0

Lee - Keep us posted and Good luck!

Rick, they had the max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt=1.600000 set to a way too low value, causing it to come apart at almost any force applied. It was originally max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt=0.30000.

Hi Bob, yes, there appears to be many fields that don't look too Kosher! Yes, I use a cheat sheet to check values on many of my downloads and I show the field that you are referring to should have a value of 1.500000. You say 1.600000 which wouldn't effect one way or the other, but yes, a value of 0.30000 is definitely not correct!

What surprised me, was the values of Lee's Weight & Balance vs what I show on my 777. If I were Lee, I'd be doing some research on getting values of 777-300ER downloads, and then try making some changes to see if it helps! That's what I like about freeware, if you can't make it work, throw it to File 13 and move on to the next freeware download! :rolleyes:

I don't like POSKY air files, as they use a lot of fudge factors. I agree a lot is not quite right, but the one line is a show stopper.

Hi,

And POSKY aircraft usually come overloaded... Station load and fuel maxed out, so you'll be way over MTOW, unless you edit those numbers. Check the FS9 Fuel & Payload window.

If you count 175lbs/pax, you can set the pax load stations to a realistic number.

And check the CG in the Fuel & Payload window as well, should be around 25-30%MAC, like this:

If not, you may need to play with the empty_weight_CG_position value and/or the wing_pos_apex_lon value in the [airplane_geometry] section.

Regards,

DDP.

Well, Bob, I found the download, dropped it in my computer and lo and behold, the Weight & Balance was 74,023 LBS over gross, which was due to having 11048.26 gallons too much fuel. I revised fuel settings, revised the aircraft.cfg, and the plane is flying great, can't say for certain what it will do in the high altitudes that Lee was talking about? It's not a bad little download!

Lee, when you read this, PM me and maybe I can try to get a copy of the revised aircraft.cfg to you and you can revise on your end.

Thanks Bob, I think we might have saved an aircraft going to File 13? I might just keep mine!

Yes, Dirk, your FS9 screenprint looks like it is for a different aircraft than a B777? Lee was over gross by 74023 lbs, which equates to 11048.26 gals of fuel. I revised, downloaded the aircraft in my FSX and it's flying well!

Thanks, Lee might learn something with this freeware!
