Las Vegas strip not in detail

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have the latest version of everything installed for MSFS, updates, have my settings on ultra including building resolution, and my buildings have no detail to them at all in Vegas. They look totally generic and in my opinion, worse than FSX. Doesn't look anything like what I see on YouTube. I can't figure out what's wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you turned up the 3 sliders in the graphics settings? one of them turns up buildings textures. I have all mine on maximum.

I've turned my sliders up to 120, everything Ultra. I have a 3440x1440 monitor. Everything else and every place else appears to look normal. Just not Las Vegas. In the Content Manager, everything is up to date, my nvidia driver is updated. Just weird.

Is Bing maps turned on? For some unexplainable reason, mine is turned off from time to time and flying over Jacksonville, FL looks exactly how you describe Vegas.

My sliders are up to max.

Also check that photogrammetry is on in the data settings - the last update turned mine off.

Your post had me check.... took a quickie flight out of Las Vegs Intl... all the big casinos are fully represented in detail. My machine isn't happy at any Ultra settings so I'm mostly running Medium and High. No negative issues to report.

Sorry for the delay in the update. I have checked all of my data settings and everything is turned on. I have version 1.11.7.0 installed. Check. Still, Las Vegas is not in detail. Just generic looking.

One other problem I'm having, and I don't know if it could be related, is that when I try the East Coast USA Tour, I get a box that says item not purchased. Go to Marketplace to purchase them. I click on marketplace and it asks if I want to Buy and Download. Well, I bought MSFS directly from Microsoft.com. Any ideas? Appreciate the help!

That fixed my problem. It downloaded another 4.24 GB. I don't get why it was showing that I had the latest version when in fact the USA update hadn't been installed. I also don't know what I downloaded on the release date. The East Coast Tour is working and the Vegas strip looks much better. Thanks for the help!

Same thing happended with me and the East Coast Update, had to redownload a BUNCH! Still not sure WHICH one was the one that fixed it.

That being said, glad you got it working. I fully understand wanting something to work, trying a dozen different suggestions and finally it starts working :)

Most things representing ports or shorelines are poorly done. The waterfront for San Francisco isn't done in any detail. One particular thing that bugged me was North Korean military shipyard at Nampo (38°43'36.72"N 125°24'43.03"E) is represented as a sandy beach, although surprisingly, the sim did represent a distinctive hill there.

I was surprised to find a VOR at 38° 4'46.79"N 122°52'4.40"W that the Garmin nav thinks is 3.5 nm northeast of where it actually is. That made me look around and I found another VOR (38°10'45.71"N 122°22'23.35"W) that is graphically represented as a house, that drove me to distraction trying to locate it.

I have been a big Google Earth user and so have been disappointed by the second rate Bing graphics; however, it has recently dawned on me that Google Earth presents an actual photographic representation for its viewers, but the flight sim graphics are digitized representations of satellite photos: a representation of a representation. I think they could come up with a better translation logarithm if they tried. But to do that, Microsoft would have to kick in some of its stockholder's money and I won't hold my breath on that. I suspect that although MSFS2020 is a step forward, it is doomed to mediocrity.

There probably is a better way to represent things, however, for me, I think they did a good job.

That being said, I feel they are using images that are at least 5 years old. Why do I type that? I found my house while flying (paused and used the drone camera to it), found the cul-da-sac which is across the street, however, at my house is my red pickup truck, which I sold 5 years.

MSFS also shows the Jacksonville landing, which was torn down last year.

But, the fact that I could find my house in the first place, recognize it (despite the truck, lol) I feel is pretty good.

Google Earth may do a better job then Bing maps, but, it's owned by Google, whereas Bing Maps is owned by Microsoft :)

Just my 2 cents

I concur on the 5 year thingy. There is a bus stop bench on the sidewalk outside our house in MSFS that was removed years ago.
