Installing 3rd Party Flight Plans

Having created a new flight plan in flightplandatabase.com, has anyone tried it and can tell me how to install the FP in FSX? I've placed it in documents but doesn't show up in FSX.

Just trying it because, as we all know the installed flight planner is rubbish.

Otherwise, I don't suppose there's an updated waypoints database kicking around anywhere? I've searched the malaysian peninsular and I can'r find a single waypoint in FSX that matches real world way points.

A search for previous answers linked me to these posts:

what is noteworthy is there are differing ways to actually place the necessary flightplans and ai aircraft.

one of the responses refers back to this one also

see info here - especially response #3

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?282842-Where-do-AI-airplanes-go&p=1879640#post1879640

to summarize, flightplans are a form of (moving)"scenery". You can place them in any scenery folder that is active or create a new one and add it through the scenery library. The default flightplans are in FSX\scenery\world\scenery. As mentioned in the above links, the new flightplans MUST be in FSX format to also see default traffic.

If you are using the default aircraft, no additional steps are needed - you should be able to see the new flights. If adding new AI aircraft, you can add them to the airplanes folder, the Misc folder or completely new ones that are referenced in FSX.cfg

Making new folders is the procedure I follow so that I can enable/disable the flights at will without disturbing any of the default stuff. I use ai boat traffic also so boat traffic is handled the same way.

Hope this helps

Hello Wim,

Got that re: flightplans, And I've found the aero.sors.fr website. It works a treat but the flight plans created still don't look anything like real life. I'm looking into ways of editing them.

Thank you.

Loyd, I've taken on board your comments and thank you for searching for the information. I'll read it in detail later, but thank you again.

flightplandatabase isn't one of the best planners IMO. Not bad if you use the route decoder option, better yet if you upload either a .csv or .json. Either can be custom edited in Notepad or Notepad++ prior to uploading.

My personal favorite is LittleNavMap. You can update it with the latest navdata from Navigraph, it will do departures, arrivals, and approaches as well as low and high altitude airways. It can also do fuel planning and takes winds aloft into account. Very versatile, very well done, and very well documented. Has an active forum at Avsim and the developer is very proactive about supporting it.

SimBrief.com is also excellent and you can update it with the same Navigraph data as LittleNavMap.

SkyVector.com is another good one (for RW aviation, probably US only?) and there's a free tool called SkyVector to FSX that can turn SkyVector's .fpl output into a .pln that FSX/P3D can use.

Yet another is Simple Flight Plan Maker which also comes from aero.sors.fr, it has it's own navdata and updates itself for free.

All of the above are free. There's a fee for the Navigraph data however.

You don't have to sign up for AVSIM to get Skyvector to FSX. Get it from the horse's mouth here: http://www.atr-agency.eu/wp/skyvector-converter-update/

TLS connection: https://www.atr-agency.eu/wp/skyvector-converter-update/ The web Dev needs to auto 301 to a secure version.

Scanned file shows one false positive. https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/2f253bc4cdaff246db7f92a807e73c273b38cc3de3dcf7fe43c474af6ab4d183/detection

Read the Readme, read the manual.

It wasn't clear to me in this thread so here goes: you can enter FSX's flight planner and select Load, then select any created flight plan anywhere in your computer as long as you know where to find it. It usually ends with .pln. Most of the time FSX will load it and you can click on OK. It is suggested that you do NOT try to edit it within the FSX application - it will screw up your original plan. Ensure the original plan is good to go in whatever third-party solution you use and use FSX only to load and run it.
