Fsx startup please?

And I don't believe (from the information we have so far) it's a hardware issue, rather an issue with Windows 10 or a driver issue.

With "driver issue" I do not mean graphics driver, rather the drivers for the various items on the motherboard etc etc.

For updating those I use a tool called Driver Booster, which comes in a freeware and a payware version, and which I liked so much that I plonked down folding money for the payware version.

But there are many other tools out there that will do the same for you.

Looked Interesting tool called Driver Booster? but Message: Unable to Download.

But did try this:-

Press Windows key + R to invoke the Run dialog.

In the Run dialog box, type services.msc and hit Enter to open Services.

In the Services window, scroll and locate the Windows Installer service.

Double-click on the entry to open its properties window.

In the properties window, on the General tab, click the dropdown on

Startup type and select Automatic.

Next, move to the Service status section.

Click the Start button in order to enable the service.

To disable this specific service, click the Stop button.

Click Apply > OK to save changes.

But when I get to the line that says Startup type and select Automatic, it says Manual and is greyed out so it cannot be changed.

Any Ideas on this please?

I'm now at the Stage where everything seems to be working and running fine,

However. I still cannot get around the Activation Issue. everything runs fine for about 30 Minutes then

Sim ends with Activation error.

I don't know if this will help or not (you may have tried already)

But I typed "how do I register FSX " into Google and it came up with all sorts of info that might ? Help.

As an Fs9 user I can't be sure ,but it may be worth a look at (some of the advice comes from Microsoft )

Also, are you installing to the programs folder? DON'T DO THIS! Install to the root of C drive only. C:\FSX

FSX has run ok from day one of Windows 10 on my PC - I too dont understand the constant threads that FSX wont run on Win10. IT DOES!!

When I lived in the US, I ran FSX Acceleration on Windows XP - no problem there, as I think all XP fans will agree (Drumroll - enter Mr. Zippy from stage right).

Then I moved to the Philippines, and after a couple of years I got a computer with Windows 8 and ran FSX Acceleration on that just fine. Upgraded Windows to first 8.1 and then 10, and never saw any issues.

But - I "cheated" and did not install FSX to the default location in the first place. This thanks to the advice I found by reading up on it in these august forums.

Instead, I got two 1 TB HDDs and installed FSX to one and the scenery (I knew there would be a lot of that) to the other. Apart from the fact that I now have a much faster computer, have cloned my OS HDD and the two simulator HDDs to SSDs, and added a third SSD for P3D, no changes in the basic layout. All the simulators co-exist peacefully and run just fine.

Contacted PC Specialist and was told there not responsible for Microsoft Software.

Beginning to wonder whether I should be carrying on with Microsoft Flight Simulator or not as I seem to be beating my head against a brick wall?

I Know it does also, have had every Microsoft flight Simulator since FS98 through to FSX.

All worked on my previous Packard Bell Computer with no problem. (shouldn't have given it to my Daughter till I new this One was working OK )

Have not had a Games Computer before but am assuming the basic setups are the same?

Apart from incompetence, except fpr the known error, there is no reason your installed copy should not reinstall!

In all honesty you should check with Steam every day, and look around for offers on FSX Steam Edition. They are bound to be there, especially now with Thanksgiving coming up in the US.

It will:

1. Set you back maybe the equivalent of 8-10 USD,

2. Have all the Acceleration updates plus a couple of other fixes already installed, and (drumroll)

3. Get rid of all the activation troubles you have had.

But I must say I am very surprised by hearing about a Microsoft Support "employee" saying that activation was not the responsibility of Microsoft - it most certainly is! If you have to go down that route in the future and get that sort of response, then demand to talk to this person's supervisor and explain the situation. How on earth can a computer manufacturer (or a store) have access to Microsoft's activation codes?

Just my 10 cents (Euro or US) worth....

I did not say FSX wouldn't run in Windows 10. Go over my post again and read really, really carefully. Here, I'll point out the most pertinent.

See how I actually pointed to a guide on how to get FSX to work in Windows 10? Does this somehow project malfeasance on my part for not being the Windows 10 fan boy that I outta? Or actually trying to help the OP get this thing going without making useless points about personal convection on how Windows 10 will work with FSX and not adding anything here to the thread?

If this is straight up an activation issue, never mind how you mentioned the black cursor issue and the tool bar at the top issue, then use that tool I gave a link to from Flyawaysimulation to find the registry entries and delete the values. BUT! Before you do that create a system restore point.

If you're not comfortable around the registry, I can create a batch file that you can just double click to delete the entries. I just need you to give me the registry paths shown in that tool from Flyawaysimulation.

Product activation for FSX is very much Microsoft's responsibility. I have a feeling that there was something lost in the translation somewhere and the MS support person thought they talking about Windows activation. These days Windows OEM activations can be tied to the BIOS/UEFI and support, at least the first level, would be the responsibility of the OEM. Part of the problem on the MS side is that FSX is no longer an officially supported product so some MS support people are quick to say they can't do anything. One needs to make sure they are calling the MS product activation support line, not general support, and be very explicit about FSX product activation, not Windows or anything else.

With the regular Steam sales and the common issues with FSX installations and activations (which happened well before Windows 10 too), there is something to be said for just buying the Steam Edition. Saving a headache or two could be well worth the $5-$10 price.

Have played this more times than I can remember and has never been a Problem before, but now the Acceleration Disk will not load?

I dumped my long standing FSX program because it was beginning to crash my PC. Too much in there I guess. Any way, uninstalled all and went back with my Deluxe Ver disk (2) first and activated it with the MS code. Then without any SP1 or 2 installs, added Acceleration Disk (1). Got the Error code for Activation. Did just as Mr. Zippy has suggested and opened FSX to run and got he activations notice for Acceleration. Added code and install went fine from there.

I have encountered exactly the same problem. I have FSX Gold and have been happily using it with Windows 10. But it has now started telling me, on start-up, that there is an error. And, when I override that and fly, I am told after half an hour that my time is up. Is this Microsoft's way of getting us to buy their latest flight simulator programme? Or is there a solution?
