pcohen
Hi everybody First let me apologise for the couple of weeks delay in replying to previous posts regarding my MSFS 2020 Posts. Having discovered my previous computer was not compatable for the new MSFS went to Currys/PCWorld and asked for a Computer that would Match the Reccomended (Not Minimum) requirements on the box of the new Flight Simulator and they sold me a computer with the following specifications:- Processor: AMD Ryzon 5 3600 6-Core Processor 3.59 GHz. Installed memory (RAM): 16.0 GB. System type: 64-bit Operating System X64-based processor. Windows is activated. Now having tried to Install new Microsoft flight Simulator with First CD Disk get the following message after a few Minutes:- Feature: Default Feature Component: Default File: F:Data2.cab Error: Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check) Can somebody please tell me where this should be Installed, i.e the folder tree it should be in? Any help gratefully appreciated. Many thanks regards Paul. Windows 10 2020. Processor: AMD Ryzon 5 3600 6-Core Processor 3.59 GHz. Installed memory (RAM): 16.0 GB. g7rta
Hi Paul, I might be wrong but I always thought “Cyclic Redundancy Check†errors usually meant it’s struggling to read the disc. I would get it sometimes if a disc was scratched or unreadable. Hopefully this won’t be the case in this situation and somebody might be able to shed more light on it Regards Steve Intel I9-13900K - Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX - 64Gb DDR5 5600Mhz - Asus RTX4090 ROG STRIX 24GB 3x 43” Panasonic 4k TVs - Corsair RMx 1200W PSU - 2 x 2TB M.2, 2 x 4TB SATA III and 1 x 4TB M.2 SSDs. pcohen
Hi Steve, thanks for reply. This MSFS 2020 is brand new so should'nt be a Problem wth the CD's. Many thanks Paul. Windows 10 2020. g7rta
Hi Paul, even though the discs are new & you have a brand new pc, I still think it’s having a problem reading the disc (mainly the data2.cab ?) Is your cd drive built into the pc.. or is it an external drive? Is it worth giving your disc a careful wipe (or rinse under tap & carefully wipe dry) just in case there are any fingerprints or marks on it. Clutching at straws really, but CRC (cyclic redundancy checks) usually are disc related. chicagorandy
Hi from Chicago, Paul. Glad things are progressing for you. On this side of the pond some folks with low internet speed or GB limitations are lamenting NOT having disks available to purchase... so it's always something I suppose. I'm curious, what graphics card did they install for you? I had to upgrade my mid-level system to a GTX 1650 with 4gb as the 1050 with just 2 didn't work very well. g7rta
Hi Paul. sorry to hear it’s stuck again. I’m sure I read here somewhere that even if you’ve got the disc version, you maybe able to download it from MS? Maybe someone can confirm if this is correct? If you can then it (might) make it a bit easier. Elvensmith
A couple of things to check, also applies to existing PC owners. Check your Windows version isup to date. It turned out I was still running 1903 which strictly speaking is below the minimum spec for FS20. Now updated to 2004 (which took about4 hours). If you are running via a HDMI lead to the monitor, check the full RGB 256 colour output is enabled. For Nvidia users call up Desktop Settings and navigate to the drop down menu. This defaults to limited which cuts off the sharp black and white end of the RGB, change to full. This is good practice to check whenever a driver or O/S update occurs as it can make everything look washed out. Would imagine AMD graphics has a similar function. Vern. pcohen
Hi Vern, thanks for reply. Computer, System, Properties, Basic information says it's Windows 10 2020 version. I have this on Ten CD's which will not load, but am told I may be able to Download it from Microsoft. Not best Impressed at the moment this product has cost £100 Plus for the CD's and £900 for a new Gaming Computer which my Wife Payed for and nothing is working. Windows 10 2020. Apollo212
Hi Paulco I think if it was me I would be heading back to the supplier and get help or a refund, did you say it was Pc World/curry's personally I wouldn't buy anything from them just my opinion ,at least they could check the Pc out for you. If its not fit for purpose and it doesent seem to be, they I do believe are obligated to sort it, if only you had posted on here for buying advice before you bought it,I bought my present PC from overclockers 4yrs ago and it hasn't missed a beat, no consolation to you ,but I think Overclockers is the place to buy a PC as most people will tell you. If you do take it back do stand up for yourself don't let them fob you off with excuses as they always do.I am really sorry to hear about the problems your having ,And what i have said is the best advice i can give you Edited October 3, 2020 by Apollo212 TYPO
Elvensmith
Yes I would never buy a box from PC World/Currys. I get mine from PC Specialist but Overclockers UK is good, too. Vern.

I find most games need a little tender help from the end user to make them work correctly........ it's just the way it is..... for some this situation you're in forces most to get to know their computer.... good luck hopefully see you in the skies..... I've had countless problems but I never posted one help me post.... if I hit a brick wall due to lack of knowledge I go off and learn then carry on..... But then I was born in the late 1950's and you had to learn for yourself..... there was no such thing as clicking on something and it just worked for you without any user knowledge..... If you had approached http://www.scan.co.uk you would have been in the air flying at full spec right now..... loki
I meant to put 2020 in my post... Windows 10 2004 is the correct version value, not 2020. Basically it consists of 2 values, the first two (20) are the year, and last two (04) are the month. So in this case it means it was released in April 2020. And version 1903 was released in March 2019.

Not as familiar with the DVD box set process, but it may have attached itself your account on the old PC, hence thinking it has already been used. You may need to reach out to either Aerosoft or Microsoft to see about the activation issue though. It should be able to be re-activated on a new PC. I’m not familiar with the activation process of the disc version (you don’t have to activate the download) Does it give an option to activate over the phone? (like we used to have to do with Windows etc) When I’ve had similar messages in the past, a quick call to Microsoft to explain its a new pc & the problem was solved. I don’t know if it’s the same with Flight Sim but presumably it’d be similar If you do end up calling MS, make sure you actually ring MS. Be careful about googling the number because there are so many scam centres which put up huge adverts claiming to be MS Regards Steve Intel I9-13900K - Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX - 64Gb DDR5 5600Mhz - Asus RTX4090 ROG STRIX 24GB 3x 43” Panasonic 4k TVs - Corsair RMx 1200W PSU - 2 x 2TB M.2, 2 x 4TB SATA III and 1 x 4TB M.2 SSDs.
