Frame rates go down after changing weather for worse or better

Recommended Posts

Several times I have experienced a decrease of frame rates from the 30-40 range to the 18-20. This would be a gradual transition. In another post, I thought I had the problem solved, but turns out I did not.

Today I think I found what triggers it. Changing the weather. I get 30-40 in bad weather, including snow and icing. I stay around 40 or so in clear weather.

Here is the interesting thing- no matter which way I change the weather from its initial state, from bad or clear or clear to bad, my frame rates decrease and won't recover. It says "limited by main thread." One would think that they would be fine once returning to clear weather, but they don't recover.

My CPU temps never goes above 65, not a single core goes above 65.

A sim restart is required for them to return to normal.

Any thoughts?

Yup, I think I have the same issue here. Exact same symptoms: change weather (good to bad, or vice versa), and I get a steady drop in frames into the low teens from mid 30s.

Neither my GPU nor CPU are above 60-65 during this time. Interestingly, I also recall my GPU usage dropping below 50%, when monitoring on Afterburner.

How did you get the "limited by main thread" message to appear? I also see ram usage around 11.

For what it's worth: Xeon E5-1620v2, GTX970 4GB, 16GB, 20 mbps connection.

“ How did you get the "limited by main thread “

Turn on Developer Mode in the settings & then select “display FPS” from the developer menu

Wish I knew...

I haven't changed weather mid flight recently. But I recall that I started with live weather and changed it mid-Flight, which is when the performance drop started. I don't remember this happening when I started with generated weather. I also don't remember this happening before patch 2.
