How Many Cubs For A Plethora?

Recommended Posts

Many years ago, we did a multiplayer session where we located ourselves down in the southern US where a huge storm was raging (using real world weather) in Cubs, so that the wind alone was enough to scoop them up.

Spent way too much time using these sims...

FS 5.1, FS-98, FS-2000, FS-2002, FS-2004, FSX, Flight, FSW, P3Dv3, P3Dv4, MSFS

As Andy said "many years ago" when I flew choppers in the Corps, Cubs, actually they were OE-1s, were our bane. They seemed to go down on a regular basis. Engine trouble, shot up, you name it, they ended being left out in the boonies. So whoever was on the squadron CO'S doo-doo list that day had to fly out and external carry the downed OE back.

They were light, so it wasn't much of a load. But they usually started to "fly" at about 50 knots. You might glance out the side window and find your external load trying to fly wing man with you.:eek: YOU REALLY DIDN'T WANT ONE TO DRIFT UP NEAR THE FRONT ROTOR BLADES!!!! You also didn't want to be flying over enemy terrain at 50 knots!! A H-46 is a huge target when only doing 50 knots!!

Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.

The only Cub I flew was the clipped wing version named "Yoda". Good little aerobatic airplane for the spin, loop and roll. In the loop I had to be careful and not push the nose up while inverted...fuel would spill over the wind screen :) But, that sucker sure could spin in a hurry!
