What's happening now and FS2020

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My first post here so...…

I retired from Canadian aviation and moved to the DR in the Caribbean about 6 years ago.

Finally got my computer sent down by FedEx after about 5 years but when it arrived, my hard drive with the all the years of aircraft and scenery on it did not arrive with it.

Needless to say, I was a bit PO'd.

FedEx was a great help, "Not our problem".

Anyway, that's the leadin.

Now here I sit with FA to do because we're also locked down here too (19:00 to 06:00).

Being out of touch for 5 years, I was unaware of FS2020 in the works.

When I found out about it, WOW!

I could not believe what I was seeing.

I'm well aware that MS basically abandoned us but...…

As I sit here in my apartment having had more than enough Presidentes and wondering if the planet is going to survive this latest test, I have to wonder, what is there to look forward to?

With Trump and Covid-19, I kinda thought all hope was lost but holy crap!

A light out there to aim for.

I'm not a computer nerd or anything like that but FS2020 gave me hope.

I've read a bunch of posts here and I have to wonder what they're about.

Do you honestly figure that Orville and Wilbur got it right the first time?

From what I've seen, this is awesome!

We have to start somewhere and I'm totally onboard for this iteration of FltSim.

Give them a chance during these trying times, please.

Thanx,

Dave

Dave best of luck in your new home. I’m looking forward to the new release but have really been confused with STEAM, XPLANE and now the new 2020 version of FSX maybe FZXX it should be called. Sorry to hear about your HD being lost. Just curious what is the hardware platform you are using, Intel or AMD? “I” series processor or pre “I” series.

Thanks!!

Processor 11th Gen Intel® Core i7-11700F @ 2.50GHz 2.50 GHz

Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)

Nvidia Geforce GTX 2060

Welcome back! I am still trying to figure out how/why FedEx would remove your hard drive.

Hope your computer and internet connection are fast though. The new sim is going to use a lot of resources from what I've seen, and the scenery will be downloaded over the net as you go.

Hopefully not being really daft here but did you check in case the cable connecting the HDD came loose in transit (perfectly plausible). That would show the drive as unavailable while physically still being there.

If you've actually taken the side off the case and noted the drive missing then fair enough. Just thought I would suggest it "just in case" :)

I'm a little confused here: Did it take 5 years for FEDEX to deliver your a package, or you just recently had it shipped? Could someone else have removed the HD during those 5 years besides FEDEX?

Or do you have the HD with deleted data???

Sorry but like I said, I'm not computer savvy when it comes to the guts of the thing.

A friend of mine (Geoff Smith who owns a computer company in CYBL built it for me about 8 years ago) created it and it ripped.

High settings on everything with FSX and frame rates in the 70's in high density areas.

I'm sure it will need a D check and new engines to run FS2020 but the basics are there.

Ramon (my computer guy here) is chomping at the bit to do his magic on it.

If you tell me how to get that info out of this box then I can probably let you know what's in there.

Cheers bro,

Dave

Hi Hossfly,

I don't think it was FedEx (even though it was in their care and control), DR customs thought they

could make a few bucks off it so there it was, gone.

I've also heard that they think all us gringos have kiddy porn on our hard drives, so...….

Irregardless, started all over again until I found about FS2020 and I think I'll just wait for that.

Down here, we have 2 choices, Claro and DeLancer for internet.

I've not approached either yet as November is a bit away.

My present service with DeLancer is 1MBS so that probably won't work.

We'll see in the next while.

Still dealing with corona and curfews so that's a little low on the priority list right now.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Scotster,

Trust me, it's physically gone.

2 terabytes of my life (pics, work, you name it) and they even cross threaded one of the screws

putting the side panel back on.

Thanx for the "I wish" though.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Uphill,

No, no, no.

When I moved here I arrived with my flight bag, devoid of flight stuff but full of clothes, etc and a smile.

My computing device and other cool stuff I collected over the years I stored at my brothers place.

When I finally was situated comfortably (after a few years of rampant craziness) I asked him to

shoot it down here.

He's an MS Tech so he upgraded it and checked it all out for me (Can't trust the bro then who.....).

$500 and a week later it finally arrives.

You have to live here to experience the ineptness of this country when it comes to simple things.

After 1 phone call from them and about 15 from me, we finally made a deal.

I would pay the driver 7,000 pesos for customs clearance fees and you guys bring it to me in Sosua.

He shows up first thing in the morning and drops the package.

Doesn't ask for dinero or anything.

Wahoo, got my box.

Run down to Ramon's and grab a monitor, keyboard, mouse and awesome speakers.

The CH controls also came with the box.

Plug everything in and looking forward to driving Canforce305 (Capt Sim C130) down to POP from YYJ.

"The shortcut you are referring to does not exist" or whatever it said.

WTF!

Downhill from there.

Fedex threated to sue me for the customs charges, emailed my bro and threatened him also.

Unbelievable.

Needless to say, I just paid over $500 for a paperweight.

Thanx FedEx, luv you but will never use you again.

Anyway, life goes on.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Welcome back. We all tend to wander in and out of the hobby for different amounts of time and for various reasons. You will catch up quick! Yes, the 2020 version previews of FS has blown everyone’s mind from every angle. Every aspect of the sim like scenery, weather, special effects etc has taken an incredible step forward with the latest technologies. We all hope that the average computer will run 2020 sufficiently so we can all experience this new “as real as it gets”. Cheers and blue skies from The Flight Level.
