Fuel gauges indication question

Hi,

Got excellent DC4 vintage aircraft. The initial fuel quantity shows correctly in gauges but the indicated amounts stay the same during the flight - no consumption is showing.

I am assuming some tweak in aircraft.cfg is needed?

Any help appreciated.

You can check which FS fuel tanks are being used in the FUEL section of the plane's aircraft.cfg file. It will look something like this:

 

LeftMain =0,-10,0,1000,10

RightMain=0, 10,0,1000,10

LeftAux =0,-20,0, 800,10

RightAux =0, 20,0, 800,10

 

That tells me that the Main and Aux tanks are being used. The fuel gauges used must be reading from those tanks. On my DC-4 that is what is being read from the VC gauges.

Thanks Tom, also to Jeroen79, these aircraft were downloaded years ago, so cannot trace where from. But in general what seems to be an issue is that the gauges do not seem to correspond to the tanks in cfg

and in aircraft fuel load. And mainly during flight these do not move towards empty, which obviously should be the case. So perhaps some fuel flow issue?

Hi,

yes number_of_tank_selectors=1. Did some more testing.

DC4 works perfect during flight the gauges show first using the auxiliary tanks and then main ones:

in cfg:

I mirrored this to DC6 and DC7, even used the same gauges, BUT there is no fuel usage shown during the flight. The fuel quantities stay the same! I am still toying with cfg and panel (comparing the OK DC4 with the "always full" DC6 and 7) to see what could be the problem. Perhaps some other gauge is acting up or some additional tweak in cfg is needed to make these gauges showing consumption?

Can you post the aircraft.cfg and panel.cfg?

If the gauges are xml gauges, post them too.

Even better, upload the aircraft's whole installation somewhere so we can check it.

 

Could the fuel gauges be dependant on some other switch or system that is not turned on?

 

If you add some known good fuel gauge to the panel does that correctly show the fuellevel?

Hi Jeroen,

excellent points, I am also suspecting that some other switch is acting up, so do lot of comparisons between the functioning DC4 and the DC6 also 7, which does not show the fuel burn. And yes! I installed the DC4 gauges, which work fine with DC4 to DC6/7 panel but no luck, still no burn showing.

Hi,

 

You have an interesting aircraft there - the aircraft.cfg file is based on the FS2002 DC-7. :)

 

I don't see a problem, those fuel gauges read up to 10000 pounds of fuel, and none of those tanks hold over 9200. What does the tooltip of the left main fuel gauge say when you have 50% fuel in it?

I installed the DC4 gauges, which work fine with DC4 to DC6/7 panel but no luck, still no burn showing.
I'm confused:

You speak of a DC4 and DC4 gauges.

The aircraft.cfg is from a DC7.

The panel references DC6 gauges and added DC4 fuelgauges.

 

What exactly are you using?

What works and what doesn't?

I checked with the calclassic DC7 and JBK DC4 and the gauges work fine here.

Hi Gents,

Sorry for confusion, I did lot of customizing (mixing the gauges, panels and so) so need to revert to the original Tom's calclasic aircraft, which I am sure is OK. Investigating my past tweaks would prove lengthy, so plan to start from the scratch, please disregard this.
