This Catalina was used for geophysical research in the outback of Australia, which is about as far as you can get away from anything. I know, because I've worked in the area of the last two shots..

Very nice Jan!!

 

And yes, back in the early 1970's I was invited to take a job and work for the then ongoing trans-con railway project there. I don't mind being a little out of the crowd, but I demurred. I'd probably freak out after a few weeks there.
