Another WWII 'Wunderwaffe,' the Me 163B Komet

Recommended Posts

Another 'Wunderwaffe,' the Me 163B Komet for my WW2 collection. A curious endeavour of a rocket-powered interceptor aircraft, climbing vertically through a bombers' flight, continuing upwards to, say, 37,000ft then diving back through the formation and firing! The endeavour was mostly unefficient in terms of score, only surprising to Allied fighter planes' pilots. They soon noticed that after a while the Komet's engine stopped and the plane glided to its base. That was then that they attacked :)

Here a Me 163B passing through a B17s formation upwards, by Jan. 1945, in evening twilight in the region of Leipzig, Germany

Amazing G'erard! Looks like another case of a German cure looking for a problem. :p

Great shot Gérard, I love how you manipulate that B-17 formation to get excellent compositions.

Looking good! I’m sure the allies were a bit surprised when that was first sighted

Looks like a dangerous little insect compared to the B-17's. I can imagine hell broke loose when they were attacking...

Thanks Peer! Indeed! They say that bombers' guns turrets were not swiveling fast enough to accomodate!

Thanks for the comment DAVIDSTRAKA! Wonder whether that was not those first sights of German Wunderwaffe which gave birth to the UFO concept :):)

Very nice shot of the ME 163B climbing toward the bombers Gerard.

Thanks Larry. That was not easy; that thing was so rapid, I collided several times with a B17 before passing through :)

An interesting experiment for sure. I think it killed more of its pilots than enemies though.

If you check the files here you will probably find a version I did for FS4 a lifetime ago. -- Bob

A lifetime for sure! I only began with the FS series with FS98, with my first Windows PC! :):)
