Flying Milton Shupes Martin B-26 Marauders this weekend I noticed that basically they come in three paintschemes:

bare metal:

Green on top:

and fully camouflaged:

I'll admit a weakness to the green on top versions, what are your favorites?

I found I have lots of screenshots from this angle, apparently I think it looks good this way..

OK, a few more then

all three of them.

Camouflaged earlier on, then bare metal when the allies gained air superiority, but some bomb groups in the 9th AF went back for camouflage on top for tactical bombing raids in support of the allied advance, but then mainly for use on the ground, since the airfields they used where relatively close to the front line.

In the 8th, strategic air force, they started out camouflaged but later went bare metal with bright colors, since recognizing each other became more important than hiding from the enemy.

You know what the German army said of aircraft: if it's camouflaged, it's British, if it is shiny it's American, and if it's not there, it's German...

The earlier shots were all 9th AF aircraft, but other used them as well,

like the South Africans:

and the French:

and the 15th AF based in Italy

Looking good as always! The smooth look of the paint really sets them well. Thanks for the history :pilot:
