Thread: Fire Retardant Drop - How to Assign a key?

  1. Default Fire Retardant Drop - How to Assign a key?

    Hello,

    I have a question concerning the "FSX Aero Union Lockheed P-3A Aerostar" from the Flightsim.com website. I followed the instructions, but the fire retardant would not drop when pressing the "I" button.

    Here is what is in the readme file:

    "FSX_Fire_Retardant_Effect is in SOH.
    http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/content.php
    If it enters appropriately to [LIGHTS] in aircraft.cfg, an effect will appear by operating the Fire Retardant Spraying switch in VC.
    (Refer to the New assign.jpg.)"

    How do you enter key assignment into [lights] in the cfg?

    Thank you.

    Brent

    The I key is for the [smokesystem] not [lights]. I usually use the strobe light o (oh) key if the effect is put into the [lights] section of the aircraft.cfg.

    Thank you. I got it to work finally.

    I wouldn't use the stobes as that is a normal, common switch for your... strobes. The idea is to use a key command switch that isn't in use and that is generally the smoke system key command. It is not in use by anything so that's why it's best suited for that key.

    In my F22 I have a nuke and since I don't have taxi lights I assigned that key to it. The key can be assigned via the aircraft.cfg file.

    That's new to me, always eager to learn.
    Please elaborate.

    I also don't see any difference in MrZippy using the strobes and you the taxilights, as both seem equally "normal and common" to me. But who cares?

    +1 You can always reassign the strobe to Nav lights. I use strobe command for machine gun fire.

    In the aircraft.cfg file you have this:

    Code:
    [lights]

    //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing

    light.0 = 4,  24.75,  0.00,  3.25, fx_vclight
    light.1 = 3,  -7.707,  20.732, 0.438, fx_navgre
    light.2 = 3,  -7.707,  20.732, 0.044, fx_navgre
    light.3 = 3,  -7.707,  -20.732, 0.438, fx_navred
    light.4 = 3,  -7.707,  -20.732, 0.044, fx_navred
    //light.5 = 9,   7,  -9.26, 22.256, 0.127, fx_contrail_Virtv_F22
    //light.6 = 7,  -9.26, -22.256, 0.127, fx_contrail_Virtv_F22
    light.7 = 9,  -8.747, -2.287, 0.516, fx_reheat_Virtv_F22
    light.8 = 9,  -8.747, 2.287, 0.516, fx_reheat_Virtv_F22
    light.9 = 8,  7.736, 5.564, 1.335, fx_trace_Virtv_F22
    light.10=3, -21.00, 0.0, 0.20, fx_navwhi
    light.11 = 2,  -7.900,  21.000, 0.438, fx_strobeh
    light.12 = 2,  -7.900,  -21.000, 0.438, fx_strobeh
    light.13=  1,  14.000, 0.000, -3.200, fx_beaconb
    light.14=  6,  -20.00, 0.00,  -5.00,  fx_Nukem
    light.15= 10, -10.0,  0.0,  0.0, fx_RCB_machenvlop,1    // SonicBoom visual effect
    //light.11=3, -6.20, 7.0, 1.50, fx_navwhi
    light.17=9, -18.00, -2.30, 0.20, fx_F22_burnerflame
    light.18=9, -18.00, 2.30, 0.20, fx_F22_burnerflame
    The double forward slashes omit the entry. You'll see how the light switch denotes the effect file. So in the case of my nuclear bomb which is controlled by light 6 which is the taxi light, its effect file is called fx_Nukem located in the effects folder. Upon flipping on the taxi light the nuke is jettisoned.

    I even changed the look of the taxi light name which my F-22 has no taxi light to say NUKE.
