Galland's 1940 Emil!

Recommended Posts

Long time I had a craft for my WW2 collection. That one is the Me 109 Emil of German ace Adolf Galland, during the Battle of France May-June 1940

Yep! Likely there were some light clouds in northern France by late May 1940. That's the weather my freeware weather engine rendered when set at that date :)

Thanks Peer! That a 109 published here recently

Looks like a quiet period of your -- online -- life now. No hazardous landing, no trafficking of any sort. Who knows what that's preparing!! :):):)

Better then meeting a D520!

Sure! The Dewoitine 520 could take a Me 109 -- it was the kind of French Spitfire -- but it came too late and in too few numbers and units, to be of a real effect

Salut Gérard,

I like the picture, WW2 pilots would say "I stood (my aircraft) on one wing." I read his book "The First and the Last" - there is a French edition "Les premiers et les derniers : Les pilotes de chasse de la deuxième guerre mondiale - de Adolf Galland" a very interesting and enjoyable read.

Best wishes.

Khalid

Thanks!

Yep! Galland is a German pilot usually prized by aviation amateurs of the epoch

Galland is half French by the way, or his family originated from France. Fun fact for you.

Yep! From what I read, the Galland issued from southeastern French protestants, who fled France at the moment of the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, by King of France Louis XIV. A lot of French 'Huguenots' followed the same path, which translated into much German Protestants to have French origins
