Good. Now get back in cahoots with Jeppesen, and get the real world weather feature back.

An interesting development. Let's see what they make of it.

Wondering if they renege on Lockheed too regarding Prepared either as a whole or in the licensing.

Here's another person who has been hoping they would resume that coverage.

Interesting development indeed. Hopefully they won't now force all 3rd party companies still producing for FSX to only release through Steam. I still use an old boxed version of FSX, and for the time being would like to see non-steam distribution continuing of new addons for the old girl. I do wonder if they will now change the steam version of FSX to add in the capabilities Dovetail were working on with FSWorld. I seem to recall reading that MS had reserved the right to leverage any developments should they take FSX back into their fold. And yes, let's restore live weather please.

Why would you think they would? You can use any standard non FSX:SE add on with Steam Edition. Plus there are many such as myself that are still running the DVD-ROM version of FSX. There are still dozens of releases that are being made with installers for FSX, FSX:SE, and P3Dv1-3, and newer ones including P3Dv4. This very website has an e-store that sells those very items. You're making a mountain out of flat terrain. I say flat because this isn't even remotely a "molehill" issue.

The TL;DR version: This is not an issue. You are panicking for no reason.

Thank you for your perspective. There is no panic here, merely an open question. This is raised because there have been attempts in the past to legislate that third party developers be restricted to using steam as an exclusive distribution channel when creating addons for specific titles. Dovetail were linked to that at some level if memory serves me. Right now, new adopters of fsx must go to steam. With ms taking over again, they could theoretically legislate that new fsx addons similarly are only to be distributed by that method and for that edition. Not saying they would, but they could. My post is intended as a shot across the bows to say that some of us in the community remember past discussions about this notion. We did not support it in the past and would not in the future. No mountain came about, but there were people who would have built it if the community had not objected. And yes, I am well aware of the e-store. I owned one of the first ever addon companies for fs a quarter of a century ago.

They had better not screw this over with steam only add-ons. I'll go P3D if that happens.
