FXS and Orbx Global Base Question

I just bought Orbx Global Base and installed it using FTX Central as instructed. I have two questions I hope someone can answer.

 

I use FSX -SE and in the scenery library it installed 4 files at the top of the list. These are the files and in this order:

 

FTXAA_ORBXLIBS

ORBX!OPENLC_BASE

ORBX!OPENLC_EUROPE1

ORBX!OPENLC_NAMERICA1

 

I only ordered and installed Orbx Global Base. Why are these Land Class files LC Europe and LC N America there. Does this look right to you?

 

Also I cannot see any noticeable difference between the stock scenery and the Orbx scenery when I uncheck them.

 

Can anyone tell me if this is the right files for Orbx Global Base.

The OPENLC stuff isn't part of the base, it's just a prep for when/if you buy and install the OPENLC items, one or all. The LIBS are stuff needed for most any ORBX stuff but aren't, in themselves, scenery. So it's not surprising you don't see a change. If you look in the corresponding folders you'll find there's not much there.

 

For example, I have the OPENLC_NAMERICA and the folders for it are populated, while the folders for OPENLC_EUROPE have only a file or two.

 

So don't worry about those entries, but you'll want to leave them alone.

Thanks for explaining that. I'm relatively new to flight simulation and spend more time figuring out the computer programs then flying.

 

Would you mind suggesting what you would use with FTX Global to round out the main scenery. I have not added anything else at this point. Only FTX Global Pact.

 

I fly GA aircraft at low altitudes for the most part and have plenty of computer power. I would like to have a decent base global scenery then add as I go along.

 

It seems there is no Mesh products out there except Freemesh that works but it's old and doesn't cover the US. FTX Vector has problems everywhere I read about it. So what direction would you suggest at this point?

Search the forum. There are recommendations of what to look for and various expectations for the other addons such as FTX Vector and FTX Landclass, the various Regions and the latest True Earth packages.

 

FWIW for FSX (and P3D) I usually recommend:

FTX Global

FTX OpenLC for whatever continent you fly in.

FS Pilots Global 2018 is the best and latest mesh, BUT FS Pilots Global 2010 is the recommended version for FTX/ORBX.

But we need vastly more information from YOU to make decent recommendations...

The ORBX regional packages include an improved mesh. I've got Global Base and Vector, which improve the world, with openLC_NorthAmerica and the only problems I've encountered are conflicts with UT (Terrain, not Traffic), which I've resolved in the Library. I also have all the North American regional packages, basically from Southern Cal to Southern Alaska, which also includes enhanced airports, and much else, and that makes a huge area of beautiful scenery. I also have the North American Freeware Packs, which provides a lot of ORBX-style airports across North America, best used with Global Base, at least. Apparently they're no longer pushing a Mesh product that I never messed with (don't recall its name).

 

You can check out the regions yourself by downloading ORBX's free section of the Pacific Northwest (PNW), which has all the enhancements of the full package, just covering the Olympic Peninsula and such, and doesn't expire. I think they also still have a free Iceland demo.

A little of topic. When I bought Orbx Global Base they charged me the Australian price. There was no provision to change it to the USA price. How does that work? Is there an automatic currency change that my credit card preforms?

Yes, the credit card company will automatically convert it to $USD.

You can't use one without the other... `Must` is a better expression than `may`

I don't know how incomplete, but at least two airports (local for me), KSBP (San Luis Obispo) and L52 (Oceano), both in California, are not listed there but are, indeed, included in the Global Airport Pack. Wow Kirk, I've been to San Luis Obispo, I was on a bus with my wife and she lost her purse with all her money in it, we realised after we got ff and the bus had gone.

Would you believe it, I went to the police station to report it, but as I was walking back the bus came up and the driver stopped, he handed me my wife's purse, he said one of the passengers gave it to him, they saw it on the floor.

I offered him a reward but he wouldn't take it, just said he was please she got her purse back, and yes the money was still there.

I know it's not FSX but nice to share it with you.

FTX has `batched` addons into packages. The content was updated and alerted to users via the FTX Central tool. If in any doubt manually update the addon. Simply uninstall and reinstall the Global Airport Pack.
