Mallcott is correct in that the tailplane as a whole pushes down - in a plane with a nosewheel. In a taildragger, it lifts up. Either way, if you lose just the elevators it is possible - depending on how the airplane is rigged - that you might not plunge straight to earth. Unlikely, though. I see so it is very unlikely to make it if both elevators are gone.
