Tropical Fairchild C-82 (FSX)

The Fairchild C-82 "Packet" made it's first flight in 1944. It was designed as: Cargo carrier, Troop transport, Parachute drops, Medical evacuation, Glider towing etc. etc. The first prototype was very under powered and the air frame was inadequate for heavy loads. Fairchild quickly made a re-design that would overcome all the initial problems. There was no mass production but it became the base for the C-119 "Flying Boxcar". After their military careers, many were used as civil freighters. TWA used one as a flying work shop and transported spare engines with it all over the world. The last civil C-82 was retired in the late 1980's

Here's the real TWA one (there's a jet engine mounted on the fuselage) in 1970 at Orly, Paris. And take a look at the "Air France" DC-4 on the back ground: rectangle windows painted on the fuselage so that it looks more "modern" :pilot:

Jan - Wow! That's like a Greyhound bus with wings on it! LOL! No seriously nice pics Jan! We can always count on you showing us aircraft we have never seen before! Thanks! Rick

Nay Nay! It resembles a PONTOON BOAT! With Admiral Peer at the helm, dare I say!
