A Heavy Transport, Messerschmitt Me-323 Gigant!

Recommended Posts

One more in my WW2 collection! The Messerschmitt Me-323 Gigant was a heavy assault and transport plane able to carry 15 tons of freight, or 100 military with equipment. It was especially used on the Mediterranean theater by late 1942 to deliver to retreating German Africa Korps troops. That heavy plane however, was a easy target to Allied planes. Here is a one by October 1942, in the morning, on the climb over Sicily's southern shores

Thanks Azzaro. I like to read notices about those WW2 aircraft and their operational areas. Interesting!

And yes the Me-321 was more dangerous still as it necessitated 3 planes to tow and a perfect coordination of 3 :) The glider version mostly was used in Russia. I saw once the Me-323 in a documentary about WW2 or German arsenal. Impressive!

Hi!

That's not I'm a specialist in WW2 airplanes but once upon a time :) I had deviced a website based upon the first Combat Flight Simulator de Microsoft, about the French Air Force in the fights in May 1940. Thence I built some knowledge about French aviation between about the 20's and 1940

And, by extension, I got interested in more, not taking in account that when a kid I had modeled the most known planes of WW2. But that one may be seen here and there in documentaries about Germany during WW2 too. The front opens in two to let the troops or vehicles in and out

Thanks for the interest!

Jan,

Why am I not surprised!! Has it anything to do with decades of water "landings??" :D;)

Thanks Jan and Rupert for participating!

"decades of water "landings??" Hey! I ignored that Peer had a real history of water landings! I remained, about that, with its adventure in western Washington only :) Thence my remarks will be more frequent :):)

Cheers
