johnost
Just out of curiosity, has anybody tried to load and run flight programs using USB 2 or 3 flash drives. If so how would the performance compare with ordinary hard drive or SSD? These sticks are becoming quite inexpensive and are available up to 128 GB. il88pp
The data transfer speeds of a SATA interface are much higher then that of a Usb port. Even an internal Hdd would beat Usb because of that. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ftldave
It would be an interesting experiment using USB 3, over 10 times faster than USB 2. It's just no longer true that SATA is faster than USB when it comes to USB 3 devices, especially the older 1.5\3 Gbps SATA drives/interfaces. I've run external USB 3 hard drives, gotten 5 Gbps when transferring large files but, no surprise, slower when copying series of smaller files, i.e. more overhead work doing that. USB 3 is, indeed, quick, a different class of tech than USB 2. Taking it further, I set up a 4 USB 3 8-TB drive array, RAID 5, with Ubuntu Linux 16.04 LTS, and it was incredibly fast. Lots of cables all over the place, but fast! :p
johnost
Very interesting. I have USB 3 support on my computer, and I will need to buy a USB 3 flash drive to try it out.
