fsblibli
Hi to all, there are probably hundreds if posts on this issue. I just can't find the right one. I'll be glad if anyone can point me to it. FSX has been doing fine. Now I installed Aerosoft Mega Airport Frankfurt v2.0, Aerosoft Maledives and Aerosoft Antarctica. Since that time I can't start FSX anymore. I get the out of memory-message a few seconds after I start FSX so it won't load. It's nothing in the settings of the sim itself. It has always been fine and I never ever had an OOM. Now everything is screwed up. I tried all my usual tricks, deleted the loogbook.bin, my current flight (so it will start with standard flight), copied in a good fsx.exe from a safe place, deleted the fsx.cfg, copied in all contents of the root folder from a safe copy. Nothing did any good. Maybe it was the problem that my wife switched to another account while Antarctica was being installed. No idea! Can anybody please help. I'm out of ideas. Thanks a lot! jorgen.s.andersen
First question first: How much RAM is in your system, and do you have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows? (It doesn't matter if it's Windows 7, 8 or 10). If you have 6 GB or more of RAM, and if your Windows is 64-bit, then please post your FSX.CFG file here. il88pp
------------------ Some settings in your fsx.cfg are high. That may be the issue. Or maybe Jorgen can pick out one specific line causing this. --------------- Possibly one line that could be the cause: SITUATION=c:\users\bastian\documents\flight simulator x-dateien\a.FLT You could try first: change the line: SITUATION=c:\users\bastian\documents\flight simulator x-dateien\a.FLT to: SITUATION= close and save. then start fsx. --------------- And if that does not work, try: With fsx not running, rename: fsx.cfg to: fsx_2017-11-17.cfg There is no file with filename fsx.cfg any more at that moment. (And that is ok.) Then start fsx. Fsx will create a fresh fsx.cfg file automatically. A default clean fsx.cfg file. That wil allow fsx to start. While fsx starts you get a few messages that say "do you want to run this addon?" --> click "Yes" to those messages. That will give you default settings. It should allow FSX to run. f16jockey_2
Really should READ the whole thread before you reply, Il. From OP: ...I tried all my usual tricks, deleted the loogbook.bin, my current flight (so it will start with standard flight), copied in a good fsx.exe from a safe place, deleted the fsx.cfg, copied in all contents of the root folder from a safe copy. Nothing did any good... Wim
il88pp
I did see that. So i expected him to keep working with that fairly fresh fsx.cfg file. At least untill fsx starts again. Doing that would be best. The config he shows now, is not a fresh one. That was the reason behind my tips: >Situation= or: >fully fresh. But see this too: An OOM at starting fsx must mean a flight is immediately loaded. Something like: show_userinterface=0 (or similar. Don't remember.) a default fsx.cfg shows the UserInterface first. So you can set up everything before pressing "fly now". The flight will not load right away yen starting fsx. The userinterface alone can never cause an OOM. But he says afterdeleting the fsx.cfg he still has OOM. That can mean only one thing. If did not delete the fsx.cfg file! Maybe instead he deleted fsx.cfg.txt His Windows is perhaps set to: "hide extensions of default files" (like .txt, and .jpg, etcetera.) with .txt hidden, the file: fsx.cfg.txt will of course look like: fsx.cfg I think he wanted to delete: fsx.cfg but deleted: fsx.cfg.txt so the OOM was not gone. If if now deletes fsx.cfg starts fsx all is well again. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
f16jockey_2
FSX has been doing fine. Now I installed Aerosoft Mega Airport Frankfurt v2.0, Aerosoft Maledives and Aerosoft Antarctica. Since that time I can't start FSX anymore. What I would try is to disable the added sceneries you suspect to be the culprit. As you can't start FSX anymore, the Settings - Scenery Library Screen is a no go. So try editing SCENERY.CFG, located C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX (only in that location, all other instances you might find are just dummies). With F search for "Frankfurt", "Maledives", "Antarctica"... (or maybe simply "aerosoft") and you'll find entries like this: [Area.389] Title=Mega Airport Frankfurt 2.0 Terrain Local=aerosoft\Mega Airport Frankfurt 2.0 Terrain Active=TRUE Required=FALSE Layer=390 [Area.390] Title=Mega Airport Frankfurt 2.0 Airport Local=aerosoft\Mega Airport Frankfurt 2.0 Airport Active=TRUE Required=FALSE Layer=391 Change the red items from TRUE to FALSE for all 3 addons (as you see there can be multiple entries for each addon). Save the file and start FSX (cross fingers). If this should work, try adding the sceneries one by one again. You will be able to do this by opening the Settings - Scenery Library Screen and ticking the "Activated" box of the desired add-on (they will still be present in the list, but unchecked). Not wanting to be pedantic, but I repeat: one addon at a time. BTW if you suspect Antarctica went south during the install, try uninstalling/reinstalling it first. Hope this helps, Wim
f16jockey_2
An OOM at starting fsx must mean a flight is immediately loaded. ... A default fsx.cfg shows the UserInterface first. This is so untrue !!! Before that, FSX checks for added/modified scenery, and goes rebuilding that database. Remember, the OP installed 3 new scenery packages, and never ran FSX in between (not a wise thing to do, but it has happened, so be it). See my other post for a possible solution. https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?308790-Can-t-fix-OOM-on-startup&p=2034232#post2034232 A lot of "Maybe", "Perhaps", "I think he wanted" in your last paragraphs btw... il88pp
sorry about: A lot of "Maybe"...... Typed that on phone. Not easy. -- I don't understand what you mean by: il88pp: An OOM at starting fsx must mean a flight is immediately loaded. ... A default fsx.cfg shows the UserInterface first. f16jockey_2: This is so untrue !!! If the Userinterface shows on startup. That's not a high load on memory. So how could that cause an OOM? Please explain. I can see how it can cause fsx not to start up. Or to show an error message. But an OOM. I don't see how? The load of showing the Ui is low. il88pp
f16jockey, Your scenery.cfg suggestion sounds like a good idea too. Not saying anything against that. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
f16jockey_2
I don't understand what you mean by: ... Not so difficult to understand, but yes, maybe I skipped something obvious to me but not to someone else: Aerosoft installers automatically add entries to Scenery.cfg. No need to add/activate yourself. So the first thing the OP should have seen when starting FSX after installing those addons, is not the UI, but the wellknown popup “Completing setup: Generating scenery file indexes...†with a taskbar counting up to 100%. I’m not aware of the fact this index building can invoke an OOM, but neither am I aware of the fact it surely can’t. Worth a try IMO. Wim
jorgen.s.andersen
The Situation= line is where I would start. If that doesn't work, delete FSX.CFG, and start from a fresh situation (pun intended). Jorgen
fsblibli
Hey boys, thanks a lot!! Had a good nights sleep, came back and saw all your responses. That's what I like about the flightsim community! Yes, I had indeed tried all the stuff including removing the fsx.cfg. The one I posted was the old one before the removal. (Please don't argue about what I have written or might not have written. Everybody is trying to help and I appreciate that!) The hint with the scenery.cfg did the trick and thanks for redirecting me to the correct location. I had also tried that one but got the wrong location by mistake. Why all those dummies? In the right one there still was an entry for Antarctica. However removing Antarctica did not solve the problem with the OOM but removing it completely (fsx rebuilds this one too) at least I was able to start up the sim again and can now sort things out one by one. Thanks to all again!

fsblibli
One more info in case it might help somebody else: It was me who destroyed the sim. ;-) After trying out a lot I found that my Hawaii scenery caused the problem (nice photoreal freeware from avsim). I was wondering because I had checked it and everything was fine. I only didn't like the noisy sounds at some airports so I edited a bgl with notepad to change the sounds just before installing the Aerosoft stuff which obviously didn't have anything to do with it. Just had forgotten that I had altered the files. This obviously corrupted them and made the computer crash on startup. Thanks again to everyone!
longbreak754
Why edit an .bgl file to get rid of the sounds....????? Simply find the offending sound and/or effects files in the default FSX Sound and Effect folders (or possibly in a dedicated sound folder located with the scenery) and delete them............... Regards Brian
fsblibli
It was multiple airports and I the bgl's simply directed to the sound file. It was faster to change it to another sound file because the sound-filename was given in the bgl. Have done that before without trouble. Well, bad luck this time.
