Trick is to move you cursor to the top of the oval, as though you were going to stretch it by dragging the upper edge up or down. When your cursor changes from pointer to select icon, there ya go. The button changes color whenever the cursor is over any part of it, but there does seem to be a "sweet spot" near the top that works.
