Inaccurate Terrain

Terrain may not be a good term, but my local airport is basically surrounded by farmland - in FSX it's got buildings everywhere - and my small town in NW Ohio is not even close to looking right from the sky. Are there any add ons that use Google Maps or something that would make my area more accurate? I have read about some add ons but it seems that most I have found simply enhance the regular FSX "terrain".

Megascenery Earth Ohio? It's photoreal scenery for the entire state. You'll even be able to fly over your house! http://www.megasceneryearth.com/store/cart.php?target=product&product_id=1056&substring=Ohio

But only in summer...

Landclass is what you should be looking at.

FTX/ORBX or UTX is your choice. Plus dedicated addons for your `local airport`.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks!!

No problem! Just bear in mind, should you buy this, it's one season only, so in winter weather, it'll remain green, even if snowfall is happening..

If you want the freeware option, I personally combine FreeMeshX with FSEarthTiles.

FreeMeshX is a free world mesh addon for flight simulator which gives you higher quality ground mesh within FSX and P3D with a 38m lod resolution as opposed to the 38m to 128m lod that is used as default depending where in the world you fly. Massive download, but worth it!

FSEarthTiles takes data from Google and Bing maps and converts it into ground VFR Scenery. This puts real-world scenery onto the ground below which from high altitude can look fantastic! The downside to it is being VFR Scenery, it removes autogen from the world. This however can be fixed with some free and payware sceneries which include .agn files (Shep's Shed does some freeware UK ones, OpenVFR and Drzewiecki Design do some good payware ones!). Setup takes a bit of time, but the results are definitly fantastic!

Here are a few screenshots from my simulator with both addons combined.

The only other drawback with photographic land tiles is that water is no longer water and cannot be landed on with a float plane. Maybe not a problem in Ohio but learning to fly in Canada makes you realise that "lakes and trees and lakes" only 50 miles north of Ottawa translates into "lots of places to land" if you have floats.

With a good ground mesh and enough effort, you can define each lake through the mask images within the scenery as you generate it!
