creating a flight plan in XP-11 question

I stand corrected, I thought I had it working but it isn't. I did file a flight plan but I think what I did next stopped it working.

I took off and once airborne I selected ai to take over, at first I thought it was working but after a while it took me in a different direction and landed at another airport then took off again for yet another, so I think when I selected ai the plan went through the window.

I use SkyVector to create flight plans.

https://skyvector.com/

If you want to convert a SkyVector flight plan to a file that can be loaded into the default X-Plane FMS or the Garmin you"ll need a tool such as this one

https://x-planetools.com/fltawareparser.html

I only fly GA aircraft and prefer to program the GPS manually. I suppose many simmers would find that too cumbersome :)

PS: Goodway may be more to your liking!

I am a bit confused about your use of the word AI. I suppose you mean connecting the GPS or FMS to the autopilot (AP)?

I am afraid this is somewhat out of my league. I hardly ever use the AP, except for straight and level flight.

In XP10 you can load .FMS files into the Flight Management System (FMS). Some addon aircraft use a proprietary format (.FLP). As previously said, XP11 changed the flight plan format to something with an .FML extension, although in some cases it may still be possible the use .FMS files. XP11 being relatively new, there may not be that many .FML files available yet.

But to answer your question. How to connect the GPS/FMS to the AP depends on the type of aircraft. Also, a Cessna for example typically doesn't have AUTO LAND or even auto throttle, so no matter what your flight plan is, you will always have to do some manual flying.

That is just about as far as my knowledge of these things go I'm afraid :)

I have been using FS9 and FSX for a long time and I do a lot of AI type aircraft.

For example I get aircraft XYZ and I set it to fly from A-B at a certain time, I can write my own flight plans and edit them if need be.

So I was wondering if and how to set an aircraft in XP to do the same.

OK, I see, I clearly misunderstood you. Didn't mean to treat you like a newbie :)

There is such a thing as World Traffic in XP

http://www.classicjetsims.com/WorldTraffic/

It's payware, and so far only for XP10.

Again, I have no experience with generating AI traffic, but AFAIK you would really want an add-on in XP.

Also, keep in mind that AI traffic in XP uses Austin's complex flight model (rather than a simplified one), resulting in a heavy price in terms of framerates loss.

Lack of seasonal textures and a rather dismal ATC/AI are definitely XP's weakest points.

Yes I read about World Traffic, I was looking at doing my own, slowly building up a collection.

I am a newbie as far as XP is concerned lol, I'm learning all over again so I appreciate any help and tips, I did look on Youtube and there are a few clips on there that are useful.

Alas, I can't comment on that, because my McAfee WebAdvisor is blocking access.

But I tend to keep my settings on paranoia level so I'm 99.99% certain that it's a false alarm (again), and thus not something to be (deeply) worried about....

Anyway, good to know someone is crowding the virtual XP skies :)

Hi Col,

you do ask some interesting questions!

My guess is you would have to use Plane Maker to add the default FMS to the panel of each plane that doesn't have one already. Cumbersome, and not something you would want to do.

BTW, as much as I hate saying this, but you are more likely to get better answers at the X-Plane.org forums.

It's not my intention to scare XP users away from flightsim.com, far from it, but things are what they are. It can be a lonely place around here :(

Well I've been on this forum for years and as a rule got lots of help and I've offered help myself in the past.

You have been friendly and helpful and I've been on the site you mentioned and got only one reply and that wasn't too friendly either, I go on there and look through the threads and I've picked up the odd tip plus I've downloaded a few things as well.
