Default A Note To Those Who Feel FS2002 Isn't Real Enough

I work with National Defence in Ottawa, and over the past little bit I've been at one of the buildings at the old CFB Uplands, located right next to the Ottawa airport.

I was chatting with one of the guys there and he told me he enjoyed using flight simulator. He told me that flightsim is very real, the VORs, the ILSs, flying approaches (especially at night he said.)

This fella is a Lt-Colonel in the Canadian Air Force, and he told me he was very impressed with the realism of the program.

Hello,

My local airport (LELL) is very close to the city, Sabadell, which have a population of 250000, and in fact, is practically surrounded by urbanized areas. But in the sim it seems placed in the middle of nothing :-(.

No complaint. In general terms, is very realistic, and is difficult to expect an accurate representation of the whole caboodle in a pair of CDs...

Perhaps FS2004 will be bundled in two or three... dozens of DVDs, packed with sceneries. :-)

Best regards,

It'll never happen, but wouldn't it be neat if MS made a "super pro" version of FS, like a $500 version or something? Something that required like 20 gigabytes of hard drive and a real monster of a computer...

Not that I have any complaints over FS2002, loved it from day one...

At the current rate of growth, FS2010 will meet those specs.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-19-02 AT 08:59PM (EST)[p]I can see it all now:

Microsoft FS2010 Minimum Spec:

4.5 Ghz Pentium 5 class or equivalent processor
1 GB PC4500 DDR2 System Memory
256 MB DDR2 Video Memory
30 GB available HDD space.
Windows XP3
Microsoft Mouse or Compatible Pointing Device

By then, we should be seeing 8-10 Ghz machines/3-4 GB of DDR3 RAM will be the norm/512MB-1GB graphics cards should be on the market and 300 GB HDD's should be the standard, so long as we don't enter the so-called 'post-PC' era anytime soon.

XP 1800+
MSI KT3 Ultra Motherboard
512 MB Crucial PC2100 DDR
Diamond Stealth III S540 32 MB VRAM

How do you know when it's time to upgrade your computer? As soon as you get the latest copy of flightsim, it's time!

As usual with your posts, a suggestion that whets the mind. That would be interesting since everyone could only load what their computer would handle.
No wonder I learn so much when you share your ideas.

What are you doing poking around old buildings at Uplands when you should be at DND? Working on some more detail for your excellent Ottawa scenery or catching a plane to take up your contract for Microsoft FS2004 scenery designer?? You don't have to answer these questions but when is your next scenery production hitting the street?

You need updated landclass files. I don't know what's available for Spain, but for the US you can buy more detailed terrain mesh (which provides for the altitude of the land) from FSGenesis (http://www.fsgenesis.com) and new landclass files (which update the type of terrain on the ground) from http://www.fssharecenter.com/fslandclass. With these two additions I've made most of the US East coast astonishingly close to the real thing. I fly with actual sectionals, and there are towns where towns are supposed to be and the terrain matches reality almost perfectly.

I'm doing both, actually. At what's left of CFB Uplands.

I'm glad you like the Ottawa scenery, I don't know if I'm going to do any more updates to it.

I do have a few more scenery ideas in mind, but I don't know when any of them will be available.
