Auto-Brakes

Hello Friends,

I am new to flight sim X and I'm lovin it so much! I loaded up an MD-11 downloaded from this website, and I saw auto-brake. I new what it was because of the title (:P), but I not sure how to use it. When I left click the knob turns around to OFF, 1, 2, 3, 4, MAX and RTO (I know what the meanings are for the buttons, by the way). When I land do I still hold the brake button on my Joystick or does It do It for me?

-Many Thanks in advance Ols500

Unfortunately, very few aircraft downloaded as 3rd party freeware have fully working Autobrakes. I've noticed, especially on ProjectOpensky models, that the RTO (refused takeoff) will work fine but not the other settings.

Using the default 737, for example, when the autobrake is set position 1, 2, 3, 4, or max, upon touchdown of the main-mounts and nose wheel, the brakes will engage and start to slow your aircraft. Don't forget to set Auto-Spoiler and use reverse thrust to assist the braking operation. Only press the brake button to disengage the Auto Brakes.

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

Just a side note, you can modify an aircraft.cfg file, for at least default FSX planes, to include "auto_brakes =" parameter setting to give you autobrakes in any aircraft. You can then add the autobrake gauge (I like the 737's) so you can set it via your panel. Or, you can program a hardware switch with FSUIPC and have a feedback message put on your screen (for the timeframe of your choice) telling you autobrakes=2 etc. I like to program a switch and have the gauge on my panel but have done it both ways.

You can also change settings in the aircraft.cfg and the .air file to alter the strength of the brakes applied, also.

Finally, just a little side note, FSX has anti-skid modeled. You have to assign a key combo or hardware switch to it, as it has no default assigned, but it does work very well.

Have fun!

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

I have used the Posky Autobrake Panel in the past.

Hit shift+/ and it automatically arms the auto and speed brakes.

If used on the ground it will arm RTO as well.

There are versions for twin and quad engine aircraft.

777 auto brake panel can be found here.

747 auto brake panel can be found here.

I use the auto brake panels on most of my aircraft, not just Project Opensky models.
