New PC: Windows 7 or Windows 10? FSX or FSX-SE?

I'm building a new PC to run FSX. I have been running FSX Gold Edition w/Acceleration on Windows 7 64-bit with no issues. I also run these add-ons: Orbx-FTX: Global BASE, Orbx-FTX:VECTOR, and REX4 Texture Direct w/ REX Soft Clouds.

Now I need to choose an OS to install on the new PC- should I stay with Windows 7, or move to Windows 10? Should I continue to use the version of FSX I own, or is there an advantage to switching to FSX:SE?

Thanks! Any advice or suggestions appreciated!

Dave

(Hope I'm not repeating myself too much, I posted a similar, longer post to a different sub-forum)

Unless you have a compelling reason to switch to 10 other than FSX, there is no need to switch OS.

If you already own a boxed license, no reason to switch to SE.

PV- thanks for the reply! I need to purchase a license for this new machine, since I'm keeping my current one up and running for other duties. With that info, what would you do in my situation?

And what would you say are the advantages of SE over FSX?

If you happen to have any of the FSX boxes (three possible) then you have a choice. If not? Then you do not any choice but SE at the present.

I'm in FSX box (Deluxe + SP1 +SP2) under Win10 comparability Win8 and every few months I keep trying comparability Win10, my ultimate goal.

Cheers,

"And what would you say are the advantages of SE over FSX?"

At this moment, one is not better than the other as far as performance and features, but since you are talking about purchasing a SECOND FSX license and getting undamaged boxed versions is increasingly difficult, the Steam purchase is instant (no waiting to get the disks shipped to you.) You can start downloading right away and you have technical support. No TS with the Microsoft disks. Some of the tweaks commonly applied to the boxed version are already applied by default in SE.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I will be moving my FSX: Gold from my old machine to my new machine. I'm reading that Steam is basically the Gold edition. So, I think Gold will serve me well for now. I can always try Steam later if I find a compelling reason to.

My big decision, I think, is Windows 7 or 10....it's hard to find a legit, affordable copy of 7, and 10 scares me a little.......

Windows 10, & it gets updated automatically. Works very well, with no issues at all.

So, you can STILL undate a Windows 7 operating system to Windows....

Microsoft hasn't yet closed the door all the way for those in search of a Windows 10 freebie.

You can still get your hands on a no-cost upgrade to Windows 10 by turning to a page for people who use assistive technologies.

From your Windows 7 or 8.1 device, go to the webpage entitled "Windows 10 free upgrade for customers who use assistive technologies." Click on the Upgrade now button. Run the executable file to install the upgrade

This forum is such a great community, I really do appreciate all of the suggestions. I've decided to stick with my current FSX Gold and run it on Windows 10.

What could go wrong? ;)

Thanks again, Dave
